Make Overview:

Acura is an upscale automaker known for offering cars with impressive levels of luxury, features and performance. It's come a long way in a short time, however, as the history of Acura is relatively brief. Parent company Honda introduced the Acura brand to the U.S. market in 1986 in an effort to create a separate luxury division for its products. At first, it was just a two-car show: the Legend sedan, which was the first true Japanese luxury car sold in America, and the Integra sport coupe and sedan.

Though essentially a marketing creation for the North American market, the Acura brand was immediately successful. Consumers liked the features, performance and upscale image of Acura cars, along with the fact that Acuras were backed by Honda's reputation for reliability and low ownership costs. In 1991, Acura introduced its crown jewel: the all-aluminum NSX sports car, which offered performance close to that of other exotic cars while undercutting them in price.

As Acura's product line grew in the 1990s, however, the company struggled a bit. Some of its products were duds, and it risked alienating loyal customers when it replaced the Legend and Integra names with alphanumeric designations. The company jumped on the hot luxury SUV bandwagon in the mid-'90s with the SLX. Unfortunately, the SLX was just a rebadged version of an Isuzu SUV, and its quality did not match customers' expectations.

For the new millennium, Acura revamped its product range. An all-new SUV called the MDX debuted, sporting numerous family-friendly features, including a third-row seat. The Integra was replaced with the RSX sport coupe, and an all-new entry-level sport sedan called the TSX was introduced after that. A complete redesign of its most popular model, the midsize TL sedan, followed, as did a redesign of its flagship RL luxury sedan.

By mid-decade the NSX was gone, but Acura filled out its model lineup with the street-performance-oriented RDX compact crossover, the TSX wagon and the ZDX, a fastback-styled crossover that placed unique styling over practicality. Today Acura is still trying to find its ideal niche but there's no denying the quality of Acura's vehicles, nor their appealing mix of performance, technology and value.

  • Doesnt get any better for the money. - 2006 Acura RSX

I leased this vehicle in March 2006 and is due back this upcoming March, so plenty of time with the car. Great looking, reliable, quick little car. I have the black pearl and it looks beautiful when clean. 17" wheels support the handling. This car handles unlike any other I have ever driven. 210 HP and still getting over 30 MPG on the highway with Bose 7 speaker system. $275 per month well spent. Never had an issue with it through the 37k it has to date. Back seat it kinda tight so I dont recommend it for a family vehicle or if plan to have friends in and out. Seats keep you nice and firm when driving but not the greatest to take a lunch time nap in during work hours. Highly recommended.

  • One awesome SUV! - 2003 Acura MDX
    By -

One week out of the dealership, I got rear-ended in stop-and-go traffic by a Nissan. Hardly realizing what had happened, I stepped out of my MDX only to see a TOTALLED Nissan. I knew the MDX was well built, but I was still surprised to see that my MDX had ZERO damage. I even brought it to 3 mechanics, including the dealer just to rest my soul, and they found nothing wrong with my MDX. I must say from experience that I have never driven an SUV (luxury or not) with this type of strength. This SUV also drives awesome over 80 mph!

  • great car - 2003 Acura TL

had it only a week. Researched a long time before i went with the Acura TL. If you are looking for a sports sedan test drive BMW. Acura TSX, Saab 9-3, Saburu turbo. The TL handles nicely, but does not have that heart pumping ride you might want in a sports sedan. However the TL is a solid touring car that does everything well

  • Good Time To buy - 2003 Acura TL

This car runs so nice and is so comfortable. I traded in a 2001 BMW 330i for this car and even though the sticker was $12,000 less for the Acura TL the ride is much smoother and quieter. With 2.9% financing and $1,800 of MSRP now was a great time for me to buy. With low interest financing and discounts off MSRP this car is actually cheaper than the 4 cylinder TSX.

  • Fantastic Entry Level Luxury Vehicle - 2017 Acura ILX
    By -

Overall extremely pleased with my new ILX. The vehicle is attractive to the eye with quality panel fit and finish and a stunning paint job. The dual clutch transmission is a large step above traditional automatics and has quick throttle response and incredibly nimble shifts. Overall engine power leaves a little to be desired, but at 201 HP it is quick off the line and peppy enough to put a smile in your everyday commute. The car handles fine and sticks to the road as expected for the size and weight. Steering feel is light enough to make for easy everyday commutes by sporty enough to provide decent road feedback when winding about on country roads. Interior quality is OK, a bit below my expectations for a luxury vehicle but maybe right on par for an entry level luxury car. The ODMD head unit could use a refresher but is generally easy enough to navigate through after spending some time with the user manual out exploring all the system capabilities. Audio quality with the Premium system meets my expectations, with decent power and bass response. Imaging and dynamic range are better on this stock system then any other vehicle Ive owned. Best thing is its a Honda so the reliability, resale value, and quality are something I do not have to worry about. Perfect car for a young professional looking to purchase an affordable, attractive, and fun to drive luxury vehicle.

  • German-like - 2007 Acura MDX
    By -

Picked up this baby on 10/19/2006. Had returned my Lexus RX 330 lease that same day. Compared to the RX 330, the MDX is 6 inches wider, 4 inches longer, and 2 inches taller. But given the size and weight difference, the MDX is almost as nimble as the RX 330. (It definitely much more nimbler than the Mercedes ML class.) The ride is pretty good, but not in the class of the Lexus. If maximum comfort is what you seek, you cant beat a Lexus. Acuras are very German-like, they are built as performance vehicles first and foremost. Luxury/comfort comes behind. The GPS system and controls takes getting used to. (At least for me, because my RX 330 had touchscreen GPS, the MDX uses a turndial.)

  • Excellent Value - 2005 Acura TL
    By -

Acura TL has been an excellent value in terms of reliability, solidity of chassis, fit and finish, modern design, quiet operation, power and mileage, can accelerate at any speed and has good brakes that havent require change yet in 55K+, and everyday commuting enjoyment.

  • The best car I ever had - 1992 Acura Legend
    By -

Will be difficult to depart with. At 240.000 plus miles runs like new. It run with original time belt until recently, I changed only because the mechanic advised it. Parts becoming difficult to find. This car should become a classic.
