Overview & Reviews
Drivers seeking a sporty sedan that's a bit more upscale than the typical family four-door will find a lot to like in the Acura TSX. It's a solid choice for daily use given its competent driving characteristics, high-quality interior and generous level of standard features. And like most Acura products, the TSX boasts a high level of refinement, a reputation for above-average reliability and decent value for the dollar.
The first-generation Acura TSX impressed us with its sporty and nimble feel, but the small backseat and firm ride weren't for everyone. The second (current) generation offers a roomier cabin and a smoother, more isolated ride, although the athletic feel was somewhat muted for these gains. The V6 model with its sportier suspension atones for that sin somewhat. Overall, the TSX is a smart choice, though not the most prestigious, for a new or used entry-level luxury sedan.
Current Acura TSX
For power, the front-wheel-drive TSX offers a choice of a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine (201 horsepower and 172 pound-feet of torque) or a 3.5-liter V6 (280 hp and 254 lb-ft). A five-speed automatic transmission is standard on all models, while an excellent six-speed manual is optional only with the four-cylinder.
Base and Special Edition trims are offered, with the Special Edition being available only with the four-cylinder engine. Base models come with an impressive array of standard features that are often optional on competitors, like xenon headlights, a sunroof, heated power front seats with driver memory, leather upholstery, dual-zone automatic climate control and a seven-speaker CD audio system with satellite radio and iPod integration. The TSX Special Edition adds more aggressive-looking exterior elements and sporty cabin upgrades such as red interior stitching and aluminum pedals. Base models with the four-cylinder engine may be upgraded with a Technology package that adds amenities like a navigation system and a rearview camera.
In reviews, we've found that while the 2.4-liter four is commendably smooth in the Honda tradition, it simply doesn't measure up to the six-cylinder and turbocharged four-cylinder engines found in other entry-level luxury sport sedans. The V6, however, provides a notable increase in thrust, delivered in a linear and smooth fashion.
In reviews, the TSX impressed us with its technology offerings, including one of the better optional audio systems around. But it disappoints with the way it drives, with numb steering feel that's uncharacteristic of a Honda product and braking performance that verges on unacceptable. The refined but lackluster inline-4 is also unlikely to impress shoppers in the TSX's upscale segment, although the sport-tuned V6 model brings improvements in both acceleration and handling. Ultimately, the TSX, particularly the four-cylinder version, often seems like more of a lavishly appointed family car than a luxury sedan.
Used Acura TSX Models
The current generation of the Acura TSX debuted for 2009 and brought a larger, roomier and somewhat controversially styled TSX to market. This first-year version was only offered with four-cylinder power -- there was no sportier V6 trim level.
The first-generation Acura TSX debuted in 2004. Sportier than the second-generation model, the original TSX was widely praised for its sharp handling and entertaining (though peaky) 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine that generated 200 hp and 166 lb-ft of torque. Among the standard features were items like 17-inch alloy wheels, xenon headlights, a sunroof, heated power front seats with driver memory, leather upholstery, dual-zone automatic climate control and an eight-speaker audio system.
Antilock brakes, stability control, front side impact airbags and side curtain airbags for all outboard passengers were also standard. An impressive DVD-based navigation system with touchscreen and voice-activated software was the only available option for the well-equipped first-generation TSX.
In road tests, we found that while the original TSX's torque-deficient VTEC engine needed to be revved hard to get sufficient acceleration, it was nonetheless quite fun to wring out, especially when equipped with the slick-shifting six-speed manual transmission (a five-speed automatic was also available). Sharp handling and good steering feel made the TSX a sleeper sport sedan. The first-generation TSX also featured a high-quality and aesthetically pleasing interior design.
There were a handful of changes made to the original Acura TSX during its production run. Satellite radio, heated exterior mirrors and a power passenger seat were added in 2005. The 2006 TSX featured engine, feature and styling updates -- the four-cylinder engine was modified to produce 205 hp and 164 lb-ft of torque, and the navigation system gained faster processing and additional points of interest. Bluetooth, driver seat memory and the MP3 auxiliary jack were also new. Exterior enhancements included redesigned front and rear fascias, new side sills, foglamps and new alloy wheels. The following year saw a tire-pressure monitor fitted as standard, while 2008, the last year of this generation, saw no changes of note.

Was concerned about selling the Lexus ES - 2006 Acura TSX
By MikeK - November 11 - 11:23 pmI sold my 01 Lexus ES300 and before I sold it I thought, "What car am I going to buy that could possibly compare with my ES?" Well, that question has been answered, the 06 TSX. This car is simply fabulous. The part I like best about this car is the simplistic maintenance. Im a freak when it comes to that and any fluid that might need to be changed is mearly a bolt away. I love the engine, LOVE IT!! My wife loves the way the car looks. I feel this is the best kept secret in cars today. I dont know why people overlook it. I think people who are shopping for an Acura are looking at the TL or possibly the RSX. They are making a big mistake. Look at the TSX, youll fallin love like I did.

Great Car for the Money - 2006 Acura TSX
By Fred in Phoenix - November 2 - 9:03 amI chose the TSX over, among others, Lexus I-250 and Infiniti G-35. Price was a concern, but not deciding. I eliminated CTS because of size. I wouldnt go back to a 6 after driving this 4. Great performance and fuel economy for this typr of vehicle. Great stereo and interior; not really a family car--can seat 4 easily, but 5 would be a stretch for any distance. I also favor low-front, low profile Acura styling. Lexus was a great vehicle also, but probably over $6,000 more expensive comparably equipped. The deal was quick and painless and I was treated fairly on the trade. If you just want a great car without the cachet and patina of a Lexus (at a much better price), this is the car

heaven on earth - 2005 Acura TSX
By steve - September 19 - 6:06 amI have never bought a foreign car before. I am 51 years old, and purchased this vehicle for my son, who forced me into the acura showroom. I was very resistent. I have purchased fords for 25 years , and must have had about 20 various vehicles. I must admit after driving this acura I am convinced that acura built cars are by far a better value than ford by far. I cant wait to trade my explorers, and marquis for the mdx and rl. signed; A true believer

Soooo cute! :) - 2009 Acura TSX
By Tammy - September 11 - 11:30 pmWithin a day of buying this car I drove it across 5 states, nearly 1250 miles in total one-way. This is a pretty quick way to judge a new car. I was coming out of a BMW that I loved dearly but like a bad relationship, it was time to let it go. :) My heart will always be with BMW due to the unbelievable handling, but I have to say that this Acura is really great. It is a cute car, gets great gas mileage, and has a wonderful tech package. I would NOT buy it without the tech package; Acuras technology is amazing. While driving across various states, I averaged between 80-105 mph. So what type of gas mileage did I get? 33 MPG! I am only using premium fuel, as recommended by Acura.

Mean Whip - 2009 Acura TSX
By Dennis - September 4 - 10:33 pmHad the car for about a month now. Went from 2000 Infiniti G20, so TSX was a natural progression for me. That being said, the power and the pickup is far greater. Acura maximizes the ability of a 4 cyl engine while making it fuel efficient. Getting about 27-29 mpg in 70-30 highway driving. Id advise not to take your MPG reading off the monitor and actually calculate it yourself, youll find it to be about 1-2 MPG difference, but still great mileage. Note that this is an everyday sports sedan. If you want a high performance sports car, get a BMW 3 series or Lexus IS-250. The rest of us who go to work everyday, want to have a little fun and not pay a fortune in doing so will enjoy this car

Luxury and 30+ MPG - 2009 Acura TSX
By Wilson - August 31 - 5:46 amAfter two weeks of ownership, I am thrilled. Best blend of luxury, performance, reliability, comfort, technology, and fuel economy that money can buy. Period. A comparably equipped Lexus, Infiniti, or BMW will cost $5,000 more, minimum. The Acura comes loaded with standard features, and the TSXs size is just right; roomy but not too big. A surprise has been the 35-40 mpg highway (on cruise control), 28 mpg with some city driving thrown in. With the larger 18.5 gallon tank, its now possible to drive almost 600 highway miles on a single fill up. Amazing.

2004 TSX Automatic non Nav - 2004 Acura TSX
By Miko1970 - August 27 - 10:00 amI had been shopping to update my 2000 3.2 TL to a 2003 Type S, but since premium gas is priced what it is, the 2004 TSX really made more sense. My expectation was clearly too high on the performance, gas mileage and fit and finish. I was completely spoiled with the TL. I feel that between the automatic transmission and low torque a manual transmission is the best way to experience this car. I also wish I had known what kind of people I was dealing with a Duval Acura in Jacksonville, FL... Buyer beware and ask for a CAR FAX!

First 1000 miles - 2004 Acura TSX
By DSPSocal - August 27 - 10:00 amYou cant go wrong with the TSX, the first 1000 miles have been excellent, very few complaints. Avg 25 MPG in mixed driving with a lead foot. Handling is very predictable and acceleration is smooth powerful for a 4 cylinder. Sequential gearshift is easy to get used to and upshifts are precise as downshifts. I get lots of compliments on the styling (i have a red one other colors were too muted for my taste). I compared to Maxima, Solara, Accord, and Altima. Then saw the TSX and realized for less money than an Altima I had a car in the class with BMW, Mercedes, and Audi. It was a no brainer from there.
