This Year's Model Updates:

The TL has been completely redesigned for 2004. A 270-horsepower V6 is standard, and both a six-speed manual and a five-speed automatic transmission are available. The level of luxury inside the cabin is up, and driving dynamics are better than ever.

Pros:
  • Luxurious interior, long list of standard equipment, powerful V6 engine, slick-shifting six-speed manual, pleasant blend of ride comfort and fun.

  • Miss my BMW2, but still a great car - 2004 Acura TL

I have to agree with others that have owned german cars, the japanese just cant compete for performance and safety. I have owned 7 Acuras and although they are awesome cars with excellent reliability, I miss the performance and road manners of a BMW or Mercedes, in defense of Acura, I dont miss those frequent trips to the shop for those expensive repairs and maintenance. The new TL has alot going for it, especially the styling, the bluetooth, the sound system and the well appointed interiors, However, the front wheel drive sucks! With this much horsepower it ruins the performance, so much torque steer! This car is a tremendous value 35K!

Great car... fun to drive... great design and comfort... plenty of power... rattles like crazy... taking it to the dealer one rattle at a time! (Still love the car).

  • Beware of the name - 2004 Acura TL

First week was a blast. I drove it everywhere I could. After that, things started to happen. Rattles from the glovebox, rattles from the headliner, vibrations from the sunroof. the dealer, of course did not hear the problem. My TL was in the shop more than in my garage. I must say I will be trading it in for a BMW. You might pay a bit more but it is well worth the price!

  • Much Better than the G35 - 2004 Acura TL

I really enjoy the actual AL trim inside the vehicle. The manual trans. is one of the best I have ever driven. The Brembo brakes provide great performance but I have experianced some brake "glazing" causing brake squeaking... You usually find this with high performance brake pads... The seats and cabin is neatly appointed with a fit in finish that is beyond what I expected...

Only two problem areas. Drivers seat uncomfortable. Took over a year to breakin. The second problem was transmission failure at 30K. Acura dealer in Marin Co. repaired with no charge. Very pleased with brakes and suspension. Fule consumption from SF to Grand Canyon and back. .30 to 33 MPG at 70 mph plus and air condioning working at temps to 106F I would buy another one and recommend the dealer in Corta Madera Ca. (First time Ive ever recommended a dealer.

  • A good car, but it has issues - 2004 Acura TL

For those who compare this to a BMW or Mercedes, forget it! Its still not in the same league, nowhere near it. This is the third Acura Ive had, and will be the last. Its really more Accord than ever has been, and as long as theyre front wheel drive, itll never ride and handle as well as a German car, re: Infiniti G35. Its got some real issues, such as the vibration around 1500 rpm between 50 and 60 MPH in 5th gear, the entire car shakes. AT hunts back and forth a lot between 4th and 5th, and is hesitant to downshift. HP is great, but with front wheel drive comes torque steer. Tires are pure trash, completely useless in rain and tbd in snow.

  • Classy - 2004 Acura TL

The ride is very harsh, brought about by racy tires etal, much harder than an Accord. These tires result in a wider turning radius over the Accord which makes it hard to manuver in tight spaces. The windows on both front sides rattle which would never happen on an Accord. While we like the TL, Honda needs to turn up the quality button. We also have an Accord V6.

  • Not quite the quality I expected... - 2004 Acura TL
    By -

Ive had my TL for 8 months and have had it in twice for front end vibration at speeds over 45mph (still not resolved, plan a 3rd try at 15k miles). Other problems: CD player replaced (ate CD) and engine hesitates on quick acceleration. Liked the features and power but in addition to above, had a number of interior rattles and leather seats are wearing quickly. Lacking the quality of the Lexus ES300 I traded in.

  • Jurys Out - 2004 Acura TL

Loved the car at first sight. It came down to the TL and the G35 and I thought I had my mind made up until a months worth of driving. The pull in the front end is driving me nuts and the handleing in rain is really poor. Hit a bump at high speeds and the car dances all over the place. My conclusion is that front wheel drive with this kind of power is a no go. If I could take it back and get the G35, I would. All the good things about the TL are solid and it is a great car but the bottem line is driving and performance and it falls short. Maybe Acura in 2005 will nail it.

  • Excellent Car for the Money - 2004 Acura TL
    By -

I chose the TL over the Audi A4, Infiniti G35 and Volvo S60. The TL,imho, had the best interior layout and build and the abundance of standard features outfoxes the competitors I mentioned. There are however, two considerations that you should take into account - info which didnt come apparent until after I purchased. A. The sports seats look great but their quality is suspect - crease and butt marks (leather wasnt pulled taut and secured enough) appear only after 200- 300 miles of driving. Very disappointing to have to face this problem on a 30K+ car. B. The Bridgestone EL-42 tires are absolute terrors in snow or wet conditions.
