Overview & Reviews
The Acura RSX is a two-door sport hatchback. Replacing the Integra coupe, the RSX served as Acura's entry-level car from 2002 until 2006, when the brand decided to move itself more upscale and the car no longer fit into the company's scheme. Nevertheless, as a used car, both versions of the RSX should appeal to consumers desiring a reasonably affordable car that offers sporty coupe-like styling and accessible performance. Like most Acura vehicles, the RSX boasts a high level of refinement as well as a reputation for above-average reliability, competitive pricing and strong resale value.
In road tests, our editors found the RSX's main performance strengths to be nimble handling and responsive steering. The Type-S was particularly rewarding to drive. Throughout its production run, the Acura RSX was one of our favorite sport hatchbacks, but toward the end, several new and redesigned competitors of both versions usurped our favor.
Most Recent Acura RSX
Nearly every feature on the Acura RSX was standard, which makes finding a preferably equipped vehicle easy. Throughout its lifespan, there were two trim levels available: base and Type-S. The base model should work well for consumers interested in having a fun-to-drive car that's comfortable for daily commuting. The RSX Type-S has mechanical upgrades that increase the car's performance potential.
The base RSX came standard with the majority of convenience features expected for this class of car. Highlights included automatic climate control, power windows and mirrors, keyless entry, cruise control, a CD player and a moonroof. A smooth-revving four-cylinder was standard, and it came mated to either a five-speed manual transmission or a five-speed automatic. The base RSX initially produced 160 horsepower, but new SAE horsepower ratings in 2006 changed the number to 155. Leather seating was the only option.
The RSX Type-S added an in-dash six-CD changer, standard leather seating, 17-inch wheels, a more firmly tuned suspension and more powerful brakes. The Type-S also had a four-cylinder engine tuned to produce extra horsepower (200 hp, later increased to 201). A six-speed manual was the only choice for a transmission.
Because of its four-cylinder engine and front-wheel-drive layout, the Acura RSX boasts better fuel economy than many other sport hatchbacks and coupes. Front-seat occupants will be comfortable, but adults sitting in back will find headroom lacking. The rear seat is split 60/40 and can be lowered to increase cargo capacity. So configured, the RSX boasts nearly 18 cubic feet of luggage space.
Consumers interested in a used or pre-owned RSX should not have a problem finding one that matches their desires. Only minor changes were made after the car's debut. The most significant of these occurred on the 2005 RSX model, when Acura revised the suspension and steering for better feel and response, updated the exterior styling and slightly increased the Type-S's horsepower output to 201.
Past Acura RSX Models
The RSX replaced the Acura Integra. Shoppers interested in a used Acura sport hatchback previous to '02 will want to research this model.

WOW - 2005 Acura RSX
By TCraftyL - May 1 - 11:55 amJust got my RSX a few weeks ago, and WOW! Its perfect for someone who wants a hot sports car but not something overly flashy. I was worried that the 160 horsepower engine wouldnt give me as much "go-power" as my last, 190 horsepower car, but thats not a problem. This little thing can go! I would have like to get the Type-S instead with 210 horsepower, but unfortunately I didnt like the wheels OR the spoiler that comes factory installed on the Type-S. Acura should consider changing them or making them options. To sum it up - this car is hot!

Excellent Value - 2003 Acura RSX
By Mark1 - April 25 - 2:00 amI looked at a number of cars in this class. Part way through my search I was sure Id go with the Celica, but I changed my mind after seeing and driving the RSX. I went back to drive the Celica again, and although I have nothing bad to say about it, I saved about $2000 on the RSX and got ABS, side airbags, and a car that has done the best in its class whenever it is reviewed. The best for less -- cant beat that!

Not good for freeways - 2002 Acura RSX
By Phantom Menace - April 25 - 2:00 amEven though this car has nice suspension, which shows in handling, I feel every little bump on the freeway even on the smoothest surface. The seats do not help since they are as hard as a rock. Its a fun to drive car, but the comfort level is this car is very low. Going to trade this in and get the new 2003 Accord Coupe.

Great compact car - 2002 Acura RSX
By Jim - April 22 - 12:52 amI have owned an Integra and the RSX blows it away. Every aspect of this car has been thoughtfully crafted. The interior is very clever and simple, and the leather seats are comfortable and supple. The exterior does not suffer from over-styling, but presents a sleek and aggressive stance. I have not had any problems with the car whatsoever. This has to be the best compact car on the market.

Very disappointed... - 2004 Acura RSX
By prettyboon - April 6 - 5:13 pmI am very disappointed in this car. I used to be a big Honda fan, but I think ive changed my mind. The transmission sucks, which is a common complaint. Fuel economy is bad. The interior is missing alot of luxuries for the price. Heated leather seats should be standard, along with lighted vanity mirrors. The interior is very plain looking. The stock tires are bordering on dangerous for being on the car. After less than a year of having the car there were already rattles in the dash. Im trading this car in very soon. This car is no Integra. I dont know what Honda was thinking.

Awesome - 2005 Acura RSX
By Freddy - April 4 - 12:51 amI like my newly purchased RSX because it is extremely fun to drive and quite fast. I have fun driving anywhere I go. The car itself makes most of my friends jealous. Great gas economy and reliable.

Sport and Luxury on a budget - 2004 Acura RSX
By Wes G - April 3 - 2:12 pmI thought for a long time that this car was an overpriced Civic, but it appears that Acura put the money in all the right places. It takes an econobox, gives it a beautiful interior, and puts in Hondas best features- the high-rev VTEC 4-cylinder and the 6-speed manual. I have 8K miles on mine with no problems other than a loose piece of weatherstrip on the passenger door. The car would handle better with more aggressive rubber, and I find myself needing to get out to stretch my legs on trips longer than about 90 minutes, because I cant quite fully extend my leg while seated no matter how hard I try. Im 64".

Im in love with my car!! - 2005 Acura RSX
By Nita - April 2 - 10:47 amWhen I drive by people, they dont stare. I guess to them the RSX looks plain or ordinary. Its hard for me to understand!! I think its a beautiful, classy, sports car!! Not only is it beautiful outside, but the inside is so comfortable, great quality, and it is fun to drive! I bought the base model, with leather interior and manual transmission. I think this model has more than enough power for me. I am not going to drive on a racetrack and I have a heavy foot as it is and dont want to get any speeding tickets!!! The automatic climate control works great and as long as your not going to always transport people in the back there is plenty of room in this car.I love it!!
