Overview & Reviews
The Acura RSX is a two-door sport hatchback. Replacing the Integra coupe, the RSX served as Acura's entry-level car from 2002 until 2006, when the brand decided to move itself more upscale and the car no longer fit into the company's scheme. Nevertheless, as a used car, both versions of the RSX should appeal to consumers desiring a reasonably affordable car that offers sporty coupe-like styling and accessible performance. Like most Acura vehicles, the RSX boasts a high level of refinement as well as a reputation for above-average reliability, competitive pricing and strong resale value.
In road tests, our editors found the RSX's main performance strengths to be nimble handling and responsive steering. The Type-S was particularly rewarding to drive. Throughout its production run, the Acura RSX was one of our favorite sport hatchbacks, but toward the end, several new and redesigned competitors of both versions usurped our favor.
Most Recent Acura RSX
Nearly every feature on the Acura RSX was standard, which makes finding a preferably equipped vehicle easy. Throughout its lifespan, there were two trim levels available: base and Type-S. The base model should work well for consumers interested in having a fun-to-drive car that's comfortable for daily commuting. The RSX Type-S has mechanical upgrades that increase the car's performance potential.
The base RSX came standard with the majority of convenience features expected for this class of car. Highlights included automatic climate control, power windows and mirrors, keyless entry, cruise control, a CD player and a moonroof. A smooth-revving four-cylinder was standard, and it came mated to either a five-speed manual transmission or a five-speed automatic. The base RSX initially produced 160 horsepower, but new SAE horsepower ratings in 2006 changed the number to 155. Leather seating was the only option.
The RSX Type-S added an in-dash six-CD changer, standard leather seating, 17-inch wheels, a more firmly tuned suspension and more powerful brakes. The Type-S also had a four-cylinder engine tuned to produce extra horsepower (200 hp, later increased to 201). A six-speed manual was the only choice for a transmission.
Because of its four-cylinder engine and front-wheel-drive layout, the Acura RSX boasts better fuel economy than many other sport hatchbacks and coupes. Front-seat occupants will be comfortable, but adults sitting in back will find headroom lacking. The rear seat is split 60/40 and can be lowered to increase cargo capacity. So configured, the RSX boasts nearly 18 cubic feet of luggage space.
Consumers interested in a used or pre-owned RSX should not have a problem finding one that matches their desires. Only minor changes were made after the car's debut. The most significant of these occurred on the 2005 RSX model, when Acura revised the suspension and steering for better feel and response, updated the exterior styling and slightly increased the Type-S's horsepower output to 201.
Past Acura RSX Models
The RSX replaced the Acura Integra. Shoppers interested in a used Acura sport hatchback previous to '02 will want to research this model.

No compromises - 2002 Acura RSX
By Leroy R - August 26 - 10:00 amI was determined to get a fun car and my RSX-S is indeed fun. Coming from an SUV, I am still driving my RSX like a 87 year old so about 50-100 of my 200 horses havent gotten out of the stable yet. But is still cant stay below 80 miles an hour. When I was looking for a car, I still had a bit of former SUV enviromental destruction guilt, but I really wanted to surpass the 89 miles an hour I could achieve at maximium warp on my old Blazer. The RSX-S has 200 horsepower and is a Low Emission Vehicle. It is the best of both worlds and I can afford it. The interior is flawless. The stereo is amazing. The interior is what sold the car to me.

Type - S Review - 2006 Acura RSX
By solid - August 22 - 7:36 pmThis car is definately the best bang for the buck. Everyone keep in mind I drove a Honda Civic prior to purchasing this car. The Type-S comes fully loaded with nothing to really do. (unless I wanted to fix it up) This is my first car purchase out of college and I am very satisfied with it. I have looked at other cars in the same price range for many months and found this to be the most attractive with a decent amount of hp. I have had no problems as other users have had year to date. I get about 23 to 24 mpg driving local most of the time. I got a great deal on it (Leased it).

Great Wheels! - 2006 Acura RSX
By Commissioner - August 22 - 5:46 pmBought a red Type S and couldnt be happier. Been looking for a sporty coupe with a stick since I sold my 94 Vette. Yeah, I know, this aint a Vette. But it just might be even more fun to drive. Im not crazy about the exterior, but the interior is really nice. I dont get the people who complain about the ride. If thats so important why didnt they buy a luxury sedan. The RSX is a more of a bare bone sports car, though it does have the Aucra luxury, and, more importantly, the Honda reliability. Like I said, the exterior doesnt do much for me. I prefer the older Acura Integra...or, better yet, a Hyundai Tiburon GT with the Type Ss drive train.

Dont buy this car - 2006 Acura RSX
By masterbulk - August 20 - 9:30 amStrut noise will haunt you. It would be the most embarrassing new car you would ever own. The noise started 3 months after I got the car (3700 miles. They kept saying they are working on a permanent fix. Its Aug as of this review date. NO FIX!!!! Worst part. The dealer refused to replace the struts several times. I had to go to another dealer to have my struts replaced. But they say the noise will come back. I guess we just have to replace the struts every 15000 miles

RSX Fan - 2004 Acura RSX
By Greg - August 8 - 11:36 amI leased my RSX in 2003 as the first Acura I have owned. Knowing their reputation for quality I have been totally pleased with the car. It is so versatile with the hatchback, I have hauled bagged Mulch, Ceramic Tile and just about anything else I needed to carry. It is comfortable on long trips and get great mileage. Apple Tree Acura has been Awesome for service trips too! My only complaint is they are not replacing the RSX with a new version. I am now facing going to a TSX or a Honda brand when my lease is up. Other than that, I love my RSX!

My RSX Problem - 2005 Acura RSX
By Rylan - August 8 - 9:57 amI loved the car when I bought it, but within the last 6 months, it has been in the dealership 6 times for sunroof/suspension problems. I just want it to drive without thumping or clunking over a bump!

Best Ever - 2006 Acura RSX
By Nick - August 4 - 3:18 pmThis is the second RSX Type S I have owned. Initial quality was beyond my expectation. Fun car to drive, nimble and responsive, great handling. Fuel efficiency was all as advertised. If you can keep your lead foot off the accelerator, even better. Lots of trunk space under the hatchback. Servicing dealer is also more than one would expect. Takes the extra steps to make sure you are happy. Just what you would expect from a luxury car dealer.

My second RSX - 2005 Acura RSX
By melvin zerwas - July 24 - 11:54 amI had one of the first RSX when the came out replacing the integra. I loved it from the first test drive. The difference between that and my current 2005 model are very minor. As a one time sports car race driver I find the power more than ample, the handleing excellent and the 5 speed box very smooth and enjoyable.
