Model Overview:

The Acura MDX is a midsize luxury SUV with a carlike unibody platform and three rows of seats. The original MDX bowed in 2001, at a time when most competitors still featured body-on-frame construction and the term "crossover" was but a glimmer in some marketer's eye. Since then, Acura has maintained the MDX's family-friendly packaging, including standard seven-passenger seating, while spicing up the recipe with various styling, performance and handling enhancements. In typical Acura fashion, every MDX comes well equipped, with options generally limited to a few choice features bundled into packages.

New or used, the Acura MDX stands out for its comfort, versatility and refinement. It's one of our top recommendations for a family-oriented luxury crossover SUV. In reviews, we've found the MDX to be a polished performer, as it remains one of the more engaging luxury crossovers to drive and also provides a commendably supple ride. Weak points include cramped third-row accommodations for adults and less sumptuous interior appointments than in some rivals, though the MDX's strong resale value offers ample compensation.

I love this SUV. Best in Class! I test drove several competitors. They all were good. But for the price, value and for things that I was looking for in a Luxury SUVs the MDX was outstanding!!

  • Hands down the best SUV on the market! - 2003 Acura MDX
    By -

After having tested out the BMW,VOLVO,TOYOTA,ACURA,INFINITI,LEXUS,H ONDA,AND MITSUBISHI.I found myself with only one vehicle that not only caught the emotional side of me,but also the important practical, and family oriented side. Basically to make a long story short I spent 2 months learning everythng humanly possilbe about everyone of these vehicles, and the Acura MDX by far took the lead.Once I purchased the vehicle I was reminded of the 0 scheduled maintenence for 105k miles, and 7,500 miles for every oil change. To anyone reading you MUST,and I mean MUST look into the Acura MDX before you purchase an SUV.

  • Even better than the 2003 - 2006 Acura MDX

We had 78,000 miles of our 2003 MDX (which we loved - never any problems - still had the original tires, brakes, etc.) and didnt particularly like the looks of the 2007, so opted for a new one minus the DVD package, which we never used. Its an unexpected significant improvement over the 2003 -- its more quiet, LOVE the Handsfreelink, and the NAVI systems works even faster than the one in the 2003 model. May have slightly more power, but the 2003 had plenty. Added a trailer hitch to this to tow PWCs. Have thoroughly enjoyed the XM radio as well. Weve already put 5,000 miles on this one in 2 months.

  • Our top choice Luxury SUV - 2005 Acura MDX

After owning 2 Nissan Pathfinders, a Ford Explorer, and a Mitsubishi Montero, it was time to step up to a Luxury SUV. I had never considered the Acura a serious contender, leaning more towards the Volvo or Lexus... but after driving them all, theres no doubt that this is the best choice for the money. Hands down more bang for your buck than the Lexus (although it was a strong contender) and certainly capable of keeping us as happy as the Volvo while saving $7500 comparably equipped... this is a great vehicle. I agree with the editors review, a little "bland", but when you want a luxury SUX and youre in the $40k budget - Id highly recommend the MDX! What a dream to drive!

  • Better than my 3 grand cherokees - 2003 Acura MDX
    By -

I have always been pleased with owning this vehicle compared to my previous three grand cherokees. There seems to be less driver compartment room than the jeeps, but the ride is much smoother and quieter. Gas economy is better in the acura. Always felt the acura is a step up from most other suvs. Being 64" tall, many other suv models are more crowded in the drivers area.

  • Sell by 90k - 2001 Acura MDX

We bought the MDX over the BMW X5 only because of the third row seating. We loved the car untill 90k miles. We have replaced two front struts $700, two motor mounts $600, SRS electronic part $520, spark plugs - Acura wanted hundreds to do them so I did the work. Timing belt and 110k service was over $1000. I am tired of the warning lights comming on every time I turn around. Only dealer can turn them off. My miles are 90% highway on the Acura.

  • Surprise, Surprise!! - 2002 Acura MDX
    By -

Bought the vehicle used with approximately 57000 miles on it. Bought the warranty and glad I did. Transmission had a major failure at 73000 miles. So disappointing as my warranty is covering most of the cost of repair to replace the transmission, but not all. I told the dealership I was surprised that a high end SUV would have a major drivetrain failure with just 73000 miles. I cant justify ever purchasing a Honda/Acura after this experience. Advice, dont buy this vehicle.

  • Great Car - 2005 Acura MDX
    By -

05 MDX replaced my 92 4Runner, I get perfect parking 100% of the time, using the rear camera, excellent design and integration of front stereo with rear entertainment system. Very comfortable, kids love it to. Im waiting for the hybride version of this car, it gobles gas alot, but it worth the comfort.

I purchased this vehicle new just over a year ago. It is simply the best SUV I have ever driven. I would not hesitate to recommend its purchase to a friend or family member. My one and only criticism is:fake(plastic)wood.
