Overview & Reviews
The Acura MDX is a midsize luxury SUV with a carlike unibody platform and three rows of seats. The original MDX bowed in 2001, at a time when most competitors still featured body-on-frame construction and the term "crossover" was but a glimmer in some marketer's eye. Since then, Acura has maintained the MDX's family-friendly packaging, including standard seven-passenger seating, while spicing up the recipe with various styling, performance and handling enhancements. In typical Acura fashion, every MDX comes well equipped, with options generally limited to a few choice features bundled into packages.
New or used, the Acura MDX stands out for its comfort, versatility and refinement. It's one of our top recommendations for a family-oriented luxury crossover SUV. In reviews, we've found the MDX to be a polished performer, as it remains one of the more engaging luxury crossovers to drive and also provides a commendably supple ride. Weak points include cramped third-row accommodations for adults and less sumptuous interior appointments than in some rivals, though the MDX's strong resale value offers ample compensation.

Consistent failures - 2003 Acura MDX
By techvet - October 2 - 1:59 pmI purchased this MDX certified pre owned last year with 30K miles on it and have had nothing but problems with it. I have been to the dealer 6 times in the last 12 months with various engine lights/codes and what I call the Christmas tree - all error lights go off on the dashboard. Sometimes is fixed with loosening the gas cap but most the time has to go to the shop. The dealer will not honor the pre owned warranty so now I am paying for repairs every few months. I bought for brand and this was not a good idea.

Love At First Sight - 2007 Acura MDX
By SteelerMan - September 25 - 8:29 pmI purchased my 2007 MDX just two days ago and LOVE it! It rides like a luxury SUV but with the kick and sporty attitude of a TL or TSX. The Technology Package blows my mind and I consider myself a "techy guy"! I am thrilled to have this vehicle!

Not bad SUV - 2003 Acura MDX
By DILITE - September 21 - 10:00 amI own my MDX for over 4 month a few rattles in sun roof and left rear. Gas mileage 15 in city 21 highway. A little expense on maintenance. The ride is smooth and handling is wonderful.

One awesome SUV! - 2003 Acura MDX
By PVoyiatzis - September 21 - 10:00 amOne week out of the dealership, I got rear-ended in stop-and-go traffic by a Nissan. Hardly realizing what had happened, I stepped out of my MDX only to see a TOTALLED Nissan. I knew the MDX was well built, but I was still surprised to see that my MDX had ZERO damage. I even brought it to 3 mechanics, including the dealer just to rest my soul, and they found nothing wrong with my MDX. I must say from experience that I have never driven an SUV (luxury or not) with this type of strength. This SUV also drives awesome over 80 mph!

German-like - 2007 Acura MDX
By Tommy - September 20 - 8:06 amPicked up this baby on 10/19/2006. Had returned my Lexus RX 330 lease that same day. Compared to the RX 330, the MDX is 6 inches wider, 4 inches longer, and 2 inches taller. But given the size and weight difference, the MDX is almost as nimble as the RX 330. (It definitely much more nimbler than the Mercedes ML class.) The ride is pretty good, but not in the class of the Lexus. If maximum comfort is what you seek, you cant beat a Lexus. Acuras are very German-like, they are built as performance vehicles first and foremost. Luxury/comfort comes behind. The GPS system and controls takes getting used to. (At least for me, because my RX 330 had touchscreen GPS, the MDX uses a turndial.)

Not a good experience - 2001 Acura MDX
By Rich - September 19 - 3:25 pmI bought this car in 2000 thinking I was paying premium price for a premium car. In 2004 while still under warranty the car began making a vibrating noise. This was very intermittent and the local dealer was unable to replicate the problem. The problem has gradually gotten worse. With 77,000 miles on the car I finally discovered the transmission needed replacing. Acura ¨customer service¨ informed me I would only have to pay $1180 of the $3800 repairs. They explained that I didnt always get the car serviced at Acura. In the next sentence they said they werent responsible for the local dealer not being able to diagnose the problem.

I was a big fan until 80,000 miles - 2001 Acura MDX
By amc - September 15 - 8:31 pmI bought this car from another dealership and was instantly thrilled with this car. However, I am appalled that after hitting 78000 miles, the car started mild rpm surging and am also being told I need a torque converter. I was impressed with another write up that I had the same experience, lots of $ to diagnose the problem. Interior plastic buttons for lights and vents, broke apart. Same experience as others. I have never replaced a transmission on a car in my entire life. This is so discouraging.

Solid SUV - 2004 Acura MDX
By rlb30 - September 15 - 2:00 amGreat, solid vehicle. Comfortable on a long trip, wide stance gives a very stable ride, bigger inside than it looks. Lots of power. Dont know about the lackluster interior comments from some reviewers, but it is functional and fine with me. Only complaint I have is the gearshift could be better designed and easier to move between gears. Not as "off road" as my Jeep, but it doesnt claim to be. Also, I wouldnt buy it if I had to use it to tow much weight.

Not so good - 2007 Acura MDX
By bowie - September 10 - 3:13 pmBought my 2007 MDX with/Tech pack in August 2007. Do not like it. The acceleration is sluggish, and the engine is noisy. The tech gadgets function well, but you have to take 20 hours to read the manual to learn how to use them. The navigation system comes with a very old map and POI database. You cannot find any place built after 2004. The navigation system also does not take latitude/longitude. The $3000 navigation system is not better than a $150 portable.
