Model Overview:

The Acura MDX is a midsize luxury SUV with a carlike unibody platform and three rows of seats. The original MDX bowed in 2001, at a time when most competitors still featured body-on-frame construction and the term "crossover" was but a glimmer in some marketer's eye. Since then, Acura has maintained the MDX's family-friendly packaging, including standard seven-passenger seating, while spicing up the recipe with various styling, performance and handling enhancements. In typical Acura fashion, every MDX comes well equipped, with options generally limited to a few choice features bundled into packages.

New or used, the Acura MDX stands out for its comfort, versatility and refinement. It's one of our top recommendations for a family-oriented luxury crossover SUV. In reviews, we've found the MDX to be a polished performer, as it remains one of the more engaging luxury crossovers to drive and also provides a commendably supple ride. Weak points include cramped third-row accommodations for adults and less sumptuous interior appointments than in some rivals, though the MDX's strong resale value offers ample compensation.

  • Very satisfying - 2003 Acura MDX

Truly an all around pleasurable vehicle. It works well as an executive commuter, but surprisingly, comfortably holds six more people for family outings. Give it a curvey road and you can have a very good time, and not be punished by a stiff truck-like suspension. But when the roads get slippery, the grip is very confidence inspiring. Truly the best all around, good at everything vehicle I have ever driven.

  • best Suv we bought ever - 2003 Acura MDX

we have only 3000 miles on our 2003 touring MDX and we already love it. This is our third SUV and we had best dealership experience so far. Mdx is powerful, reliable in bad weather and we give it a 10

Previous to test driving this SUV my husband and I sat across from one at a red light and he said he did not like it, while test driving the BMW SUV (along with 8 other manufactures. The salesperson recommended this for our needs of our family, by that night my husband had a new love. Almost 1 year later and we feel that it was one of our best purchases. It has been a real pleasure.

  • Surprised... - 2003 Acura MDX

Im a former RL owner, and was pleasently surprised that the MDX offeres all the creature comforts of the RL, with the Storage capacity of a truck. The ride is better than that of the RL in my opinion, probably due to the improved suspension system.

  • The interior should be higher qlty. - 2004 Acura MDX

I have enjoyed owning and driving this car. Its a great vehicle. My disappointments are in the suggested improvements section. Paying sticker was painful. The gas mileage could be better. I get 17/mpg. Defrost gives off a musty smell in summer.

  • lots of problems - 2001 Acura MDX
    By -

my acura had a faulty gas tank (could only pump .10 cents of gas at a time) that to my knowledge is the only one ever totally replaced and had to have roof liner taken out the first week to fix "chirping" in the sunroof. since then, have had lots of smaller issues- noises when braking, FOUR front dash vents have fallen out, transmission problems at 38-42 mph., and popping behind glove box.

  • Fix the Clicking - 2002 Acura MDX
    By -

We bought this car after driving many and doing our research. Love the car, but hate the clicking noise the brakes make every time you switch gears. Weve had it in for service and called Acuras customer help line. Everyone says this noise is normal. It doesnt sound normal- especially for a car made by Acura that sells for almost $40,000. Dissappointed that Acura doesnt seem to think this is a problem, nor are they trying to fix it.

This happens to be the best car Ive ever purchased. Its classy, roomy, and handles beautifully. I have 2 children under the age of 4 that sit comfortably along with enough room for all the bags I have to take along. I would recommend this vehicle to anyone looking for the ultimate luxury SUV.

  • Dont get Black - 2001 Acura MDX
    By -

Our car is great it has been on many road trips. It seems to be holding up well. The only complaint I have it the exterior dents very easily and the black paint scratches easily. Some scratches are unavoidable with black, but Honda black never seems to keep its luster for very long. I was hoping they would use a better paint on the Acura but it is the same as our Honda. I have a black BMW and it does not look as bad as the MDX. It seems to be holding up in every other way. Great vehicle!

  • Best Mid-Size Luxury SUV on the Market - 2001 Acura MDX
    By -

I have owned my MDX for just over two years now logging 39,000 miles. Before I purchased it, I looked at all the mid-size luxury SUVs available, including BMW, Mercedes Benz, and Lexus--I have not been disappointed in my selection. Its been a teriffic vehicle--comfortable, powerful, efficient, reliable, versatile and stylish (conservatively so). I have owned Acura/Honda vehicles for more than twenty years now and will continue to own them as long as they continue to offer the same performance and reliability.
