This Year's Model Updates:

Toyota's midsize SUV is fully redesigned for 2008. Significantly larger than the original, the 2008 Highlander features a standard V6 engine and a habitable third-row seat.

Pros:
  • Powerful and fuel-efficient V6, easy to maneuver for its size, user-friendly cabin design with reconfigurable second-row seats and a fully usable third row.
Cons:
  • Third-row seat folds as a single unit rather than in 50/50 sections.

  • Four wheel drive - 2008 Toyota Highlander

I bought this highlander knowing that I need a four wheel drive to get out of my drive. It works when it senses slip. If you start out on a hill, you are going nowhere. That is my only complaint on the highlander.

  • Bigger is Better - 2008 Toyota Highlander

I had an 05 Rav 4 which was a great little SUV, but the 08 Highlander that Ive had for 3 weeks now is a lot more fun and a lot less cramped. Very quiet on the highway, quick to accelerate and a very comfortable interior. Took some getting used to with the bigger front. Love the radio with the sound adjustment feature. When the road gets loud, the radio goes up!

  • Love it - 2008 Toyota Highlander

Toyota had it all with new style, kids love it (16, 14, and 9 years old), very Lexus feeling. Not perfect but does really well across the board, will hold its value.

  • poor tires on awd - 2008 Toyota Highlander
    By -

Why buy an awd. The tires that come for it are junk. Only two mfg make them. The tires are very poor in the snow. See tire rack survey. Toyota told me to install chains. Why did I pay for the awd. Toyota blew it when it specked these tires. They should have gone to a size where there are more tires avail.

  • Very Happy With Purchase - 2008 Toyota Highlander

Ive only been driving the Highlander for about a month, but so far Im very happy with it. Im amazed at how good the gas mileage is, especially considering how much power it has. Even better gas mileage than the 05 Highlander that I traded. I bought the 2 wheel drive model not only to save money, but also because its better on gas, and requires less maintenance than the 4 wheel drive model. My only real complaint is the 55 series 19" tires that come standard on the Limited model. The 19" wheels look great, but one good look at the Bridgestones tell you that theyre not well suited for snow or ice. Ive already purchased 4 Blizzaks and alloy wheels for the winter months.

  • Not perfect, but pretty nice - 2008 Toyota Highlander

This basic AWD model is almost identical in size to our 2000 Merc Mountaineer, but a little wider and way better ride. Interior fan so much quieter. Headlights much better illumination. Not as good looking or as much fun to drive as the Rav4 in my opinion, but we want to tow a 4000 lb travel trailer and the Rav wont quite do it. This Highlander has plenty of goodies as standard equipment. And 8" ground clearance, yet its easier to get in and out of than the old Mountaineer. My 52" wife is happy about that.

  • Love It! - 2008 Toyota Highlander

We love our new 2008 Highlander. We were looking at the Honda Pilot but are very glad we went with the Highlander. Gas mileage is what you would expect for an SUV of this size but better than stated by Toyota. Living in the mountains I have used the downhill assist and it worked great. We also like the ability to switch to manual shift. It will come in handy this winter. Havent used the snow button yet but will probably use it quite frequently this winter. We went with the base because the price of the additional features wasnt worth the extra money for us.

  • Great improvement from previous model - 2008 Toyota Highlander

Having owned the 2005 Highlander, I find the redesigned model to be better handling, more powerful, smoother transmission, and vastly larger feeling inside. Being our family vehicle, I found the 2005 model to be basic transportation but nothing special to drive. The 2008 model I actually enjoy driving and find it has some level of excitement, as well as far more practical access to the third row seat. Mileage has been slightly better than advertised 24 vs 23 on a recent highway trip. Found very comfortable on a long distance trip.

  • Excellent SUV - 2008 Toyota Highlander

Ive had the truck for about a month & am very satisfied. I traded in a Lexus ES 350 because I needed something bigger with 4 wheel drive. The Highlander has many of the same features (engine, great stereo, bluetooth, etc) & possesses the same quality Toyota fit & finish. Gas mileage is decent as well, much better than some of the full size beasts out on the road today.

  • A Keeper - 2008 Toyota Highlander
    By -

I purchased the Highlander to have a reliable, economical to drive, and comfortable vehicle for long trips and for around town. It does it all. Quiet smooth ride, 21mpg around town, 26mpg Interstate. Power enough to pull my pontoon boat, yet easy to handle. Everyone remarks on how quiet the ride is, and the JBL stereo with sateite sounds great.
