This Year's Model Updates:

Completely redesigned, the 2009 Toyota Corolla looks much the same as last year's model but is a bit larger inside and out. Highlights on the new car include an available 2.4-liter engine and a navigation system.

Pros:
  • Smooth and controlled ride, excellent fuel economy with base 1.8-liter engine, attractive and ergonomic interior design, lengthy features list.
Cons:
  • Oddly weighted electric-assist steering, so-so gas mileage with 2.4-liter engine.

  • A Corolla with Camry Power - 2009 Toyota Corolla

This is a Corolla, but it looks sportier than previous model. Personally, I like to to look like a Corolla S which got a 1.8L powerplant - i.e. people will think that they can easily pass me. My XRS usually surprises people driving an Integra who think they can overtake me from stop (except they brutally cut into line, then I give up). It got tremendous torque for such a small car. However, it does come with a price - the gas mileage isnt great at all. Besides, the suspension is a bit too stiff. You can feel every manhole cover and every uneven spots on the road - a bit annoying. Aside from that, it is a nice little car - storage is great and interior feels spacious.

I love my corolla! Its fun and easy to drive. The car handles well, gets 30 mpg routinely, has cold ac, and the JBL stereo is great. I think the interior dash design could be upgraded, but thats my only complaint. With the reliability of Toyota, Im sure I will be driving this car for many years to come.

My wife totaled our 2006 Corolla LE. Decided we wanted another Corolla but with a little sport. So we purchased the S Model. Car looks sleek and aggressive. I agree with some posters that the paint needs to be more durable. Like maybe 3 or 4 layers. Gas mileage is incredible and you have to love spending about $30 dollars to fill up the tank. I wish though the seats can be adjusted in more different ways and the steering feels at times a little artificial. Other than that, Id buy another Corolla.

  • Rattling Noise, MPG not up there - 2009 Toyota Corolla

Ive had my Corolla for one year now and have driven it approx. 7,000 miles. I enjoy the car overall but there are some things that really annoy me about it. The panels for the side curtain airbags rattle and it annoys the bejesus out of me. It comes and goes. I have also recently noticed some more rattling noise (again, comes and goes) from the back area of the car. The gas mileage I get driving around the city isnt as good as advertised. It appears to be more like 25 for city driving and 30-33 on the highway. This was my first economy car. Being 63, I fit pretty comfortable in this vehicle. The engine is very quiet and has some quickness for being a 4 banger.

It is a great car for driving to work and local shopping. The mileage is incredible, I am averaging between 35 to 38 so far, including local and highway. The car has decent horsepower but the interior is looking a little cheap. Overall, it is a great car and I cant complain!

  • My First Toyota is Great - 2009 Toyota Corolla

38.9 MPG. Do I need to say anything else? I travel 30,000 highway miles annually and since purchasing the 2009 in July of 2008, the LE is providing great fuel economy, reliability, technology and above average comfort. The only design flaw is the lack of proper location of arm rests for the drivers seat. This really comes in play on the highway; not as much in the city. Suggestion: If you log the high miles, purchase the bumper-to-bumper package. For the additional $700.00 it will pay itself off in the off-chance this Toyota has a major mechanical failure. • Our best car ever! - 2009 Toyota Corolla

Cons: Its noisy on the highway (probably due to limited interior insulation). Pros: Extremely reliable; We bought it new in June, 2008 and now (Oct., 2015) are still driving it with over 132,000 miles. The only real repair, other than the wearables, (tires, brakes, etc.) has been a rear wheel hub replacement ($500. expense) which was necessary due to a bad internal sensor. We found out later that a properly-inserted pipe cleaner might have cleaned off the dirty, not defective, sensor and eliminated even that repair expense. We really like our Corolla and consider it to be our most dependable, and economical vehicle evr. PS: We have been driving for 41 years and have had well over 20 vehicles in that time period.

I bought this vehicle January 10, 2009, for the price it is a great deal for the buck. I have two draw backs on this vehicle, first the clock is in a odd place, and the vehicle mph does not reflect the actual mph. I havent noticed the steering problem that some owners are talking about, if I do I will be taking it in to the dealer for a fix. Overall this car is great. This is my forth corolla now,and I will recommend this vehicle to anyone.

  • Reliable and Worth every penny - 2009 Toyota Corolla

I bought this car brand new in January 2009 and traveled a lot for work. I now have 200K miles and use this as my second car for short trips. So far everything still works and no major mechanical issues or rusts. As long as you are changing the oil every 4K miles and tune up every 75K miles you should be good. Just be easy on the gas pedal since it doesnt have a lot of power.

  • Great Commuter - 2009 Toyota Corolla

My wife traded in our 2008 Accord LX-P because of the sever wind/road noise. Only had the Accord less than eight months. Have had the Corolla for almost a month and she just loves it. It is quieter than the Accord and rides just as well or better. We put 17" wheels on it and it really looks sharp. The gas mileage is about 36 mpg on her daily commute of 85mi round trip, I like the comfortable seats and the power is more than enough to get you on the freeway. Cant say enough good things about the car. It was a great trade as far as we are concerned.
