This Year's Model Updates:

Nissan's popular Xterra SUV receives a variety of updates for the 2002 model year. Front-end styling is updated, and the bulged hood hides a newly optional supercharged V6. Inside, there are revised gauges, seat fabrics, climate controls, two additional power points and a bigger glovebox. Also standard are dual-stage front airbags, rear child-seat anchors, variable intermittent front windshield wipers, a rear window wiper and a foot-operated parking brake. In terms of options, a new in-dash six-disc CD changer is available on XE Xterras and standard on SE models. Nissan has also made the sunroof optional instead of standard. Finally, as a tribute to dedicated Xterra owners, an Enthusiast Package is available only on XE V6 four-wheel-drive models. It includes ceiling tie clamps, a first aid kit, a tilt steering wheel, foglights, front tow hooks, map lights, a limited-slip differential, manually locking hubs and rubber floor mats.

Pros:
  • Rugged looks and the off-road capability to match, lots of room inside.
Cons:
  • Uncomfortable front seats, poor on-road ride and steering, four-cylinder and normally aspirated V6 lack power.

I really like the Xterra. People need to understand that these are off-road vehicles. If you want soft seats, lower steps, softer ride, buy a mini van. These vehicles were built to drive in regions where there are at best a rough logging road. Roll over situations are problematic of all vehicles with height. Height is needed off road. If rollover is a problem for you.. again buy a mini van. Personally we have found it performs well off road. Good hooks are a must, hard to find a good mounting point on the frame to snatching a friend with.

  • Best Suv for the money - 2002 Nissan Xterra

If you are looking for a real suv, the Xterra is it. From the rugged looks to Nissan reliability, it is the best. I think the over all ride quality is great considering how well it performs off-road. I can drive my Xterra thru the woods of northern Minnesota and not have to worry about breaking anything. Sure, the motor could be stronger, but it is the same motor that made the Pathfinder an award winner in the late 90s. I would trade a few extra horse power for reliability any day.

2002 Nissan Xterra with just the enthusiast package manual tranny and V6 and i love it. silver ice paint and manual hubs up front. this vehicle is extremely solid built better than my old ford and rides better. V6 is really strong especially with manual tranny, 4x4 capabilities are very inspiring. lots of cargo room and tons of cool storage and neat nooks and crannies to put stuff. this vehilce is really the best fit for people looking for a rugged reliable vehicle to go and have so real fun with.

  • A Great Vehicle! - 2002 Nissan Xterra

Have had my Xterra 14 months now and it is doing great! I keep hearing people complain about gas mileage-but I get 20 mpg with the V6 and 5spd manual, which is excellent for a veh with high ground clearance, full steel frame, steel skid plates, true roof rack and 16" wheels & tires!

Vehicle looks great and is fun to drive. The Solar Yellow turns alot of heads as well! It is perfect for my lifestyle with the real-truck features I need with relative comfort for its class. Not much pep, however. It is sluggish on acceleration.

I feel that the XTerra is the most bang for the buck. Interrior space is wonderful for a mid-size SUV. The lack of power for the 4-cylinder engine is not worth the cost savings. Get the 6 cylinder, super charged engine.

  • Lovin It!! - 2002 Nissan Xterra

I just got my X yesterday and had to do some driving. After puting on 400 miles in just under 24 hours I have to say I love this thing. It rides like a truck but fells really steady in the turns. I like the acceleration and the access to all guages and accessories. Gas milage is an issue at todays prices, but what the hell!! You only go around once. Overall, very happy with my choice.

  • My Xterra - 2002 Nissan Xterra

I love my Xterra, but am thinking of trading it in for a new car after our recent ice storm. I know that all cars have problems on ice, but I could not even get traction in my driveway. I felt very unsafe in it even after the roads cleared a little. The noise from the road is bothersome while on highway. Should come equipped with rainguards on the window. Basic interior, awesome exterior. Really sporty and fun to drive. Hard to clean interior for messy drivers (like me).

This vehicle has all of the functionality you look for in an SUV. Great 4x4 performance and ground clearance, nice features, rugged, and extremely low maintenance. In the course of 2 years I have changed the windshield wipers! Highly recommend!!
