This Year's Model Updates:

The E-Class sedan is completely redesigned this year. A more elegant body, along with more power for the V8 model and more luxury (including four-zone climate control and an optional massaging driver seat), bring the latest midsize Benz up to date. Last year's E-Class station wagon, however, carries over into 2003 virtually unchanged.

Pros:
  • Legendary solidity, effortless performance, state-of-the-art safety features.
Cons:
  • Firm ride for a luxury sedan, touchy brakes.

  • a lifesaver - 2003 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

Bought this brand new. Within 6 mo. Had the steering rack replaced and several other minor problems. Radio is possessed and theyve never been able to fix it. Car has only 48,000 miles after 6 years and a number of expensive nuisance repairs have had to be made. Shouldnt happen for the price and marque. Its a beautiful car: rides and drives wonderfully. Has also been a lifesaver for me......... Was taken out by a western star dump truck on the highway and only needed two doors replaced. Shes a keeper ..... For now.

A VERY SMOOTH, LUXURIOUS, PRODUCT. SOMEWHAT UNDERPOWERED, ESPECIALY WITH 4 PASSENGERS. LOTS OF NICE FEATURES, GREAT BRAKES, SEATS & INTERIOR. SMALL ITEMS ARE MISSING, LIKE DOOR AJAR INICATOR, TRUNK AJAR. SOFTWARE FOR RADIO CONTROLS IS VERY POORLY DESIGNED.

Love the look and drive of my E320 sports package. First MB however very disappointed with the quality of car. Had to bring car in shop after 1st week because radio/cd went dead. Took 3 hrs to fix. Waited whole time! Glove compartment rattles, had problems with A/C turning on about 5+ times, seatbelt in drivers side lockes up sometimes when push seat memory button to re- adjust seat. Alignment already bad with only 4300 miles. Not looking forward to bringing it in the shop to get all this fixed. Bought MB verses BMW b/c heard BMW had problems. What a disappointment. Had Honda Accord before this car and had noooo problems!

Boy, did I get a lemon! I have had the car for almost 5 years now, bought it used at 3 years and have spent thousands of dollars to keep it on the road. In the last 6 months, I have only driven 3,000 kms due to not trusting its reliability and now when it needs its snowtires off, the repairs of $2,880 shocks me yet again. Every time I take it for service it costs me thousands. Will be dumping it for something reliable = perhaps a Toyota - anything has got to be better than this. Talk about mis-advertising because this baby sure does not prove German engineering. Must have been a Monday or Friday car or when MB was associated with Chrysler, used Chrysler parts and charged MB prices.

  • More Chrysler than Mercedes - 2003 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

Poor reliability especially electrical, small seat and bad seating position, num steering, so so handling in high speed, transition hesitate in lower speed, center consul is getting wider causing less leg room, too much computer, car feels heavy even with the big eight, sport package dosent make any different, brake system, noisy windshield wipers .

I reviewed this model favorably when I first purchased used in 2006. Now, it is a different story. Repairs are extremely expensive and many can only be done at a dealer. Yesterday, the car left me stranded for the second time in 2 years. Again, an excellent independent shop is not equipped to handle. Another fuel injector type of problem. I have owned BMWs, Infinity, and Jags in the past so Im used to expensive repairs. But this car has been babied and just turned 70K miles, too young for these types of problems. Buy only if still under manufacturer warranty. Otherwise, avoid all German sedans and buy an Infiniti. Sure, the style/status is not the same, but an Infinity IS dependable

This car has it all - looks, style, comfort and performance. Inside and out, it is the best looking sedan on the market today. Sure, you pay a little premium, but that is more than offset by the quality and extremely high resale value. I have never owned a Mercedes - buying BMWs, Lexus, Jags and Porsches in the past. I have been pleasantly surprised with the E and see myself in Benzs in the future. PS - has anyone seen what BMW is doing with their cars lately - what is up with that (inside AND out)!!!!

  • Great car! - 2003 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

An extraordinary car! When I bought it, I knew it was a dream. It has great stability. The comfort is great. On the road, its smooth and gets great mileage. The other day on a 2 hour trip, I got 410 miles on a tank with 28.5 mpg. I hadnt filled the tank in 1 week and 2 days. I love the sport package and the bi- xenon lights. Great everything! The trunk is enormous.

  • Could be great - 2003 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

Sold 2001 BMW 525IA for 03 320E RWD. Very good ride, excellent gas milage 9 (averaged over 29 MPG on a recent 500 round trip at close to 70 MPG). Really! Only problem I have had and it is hard to understand is the computer system that controls the stereo system. My vehicle was at the dealership for more than 3 weeks waiting for a new "gateway". Not good! Problem appears to have been corrected but this cars electronics are sluggish. Love the styling and the ride. Stereo sound is fine and interior is very good.
