This Year's Model Updates:

For 2006, the MX-5 gets its first top-to-bottom redesign since its launch in 1989. The roadster gains a roomier cockpit but still tips the scales at under 2,500 pounds. Beneath the hood, the MX-5 benefits from an all-new 170-horsepower, 2.0-liter engine. Side-impact airbags and ABS are now standard across all trims.

Pros:
  • Huge fun factor, precise steering and handling, low base price, economical to operate.
Cons:
  • A few questionable interior plastics, still snug for large adults.

I have only had my car a few days but, I can sum it up in one word. WOW. This car is a real head turner.

After four weeks and over two thousand miles, my enthusiasm for this car continues to grow. My wife no longer asks me where Im going when I dash out the front door at 10 PM--she knows I have to go for a drive. Ive driven it on back roads, on a very congested I-95, and the infamous DC Beltway. It handles all condition with aplomb. The more powerful engine of this third generation Miata makes passing a breeze and the superb handling makes it easy to adjust to about anything driving conditions can throw at you. In short, this car is a joy to drive!

I purchased number 269/3500 a few days ago and am loving this car. The first day I drove up the seacoast and put 200 miles on the car. I really like the "get up and go" when you need it (or when you just want to have a little fun!). The sport suspension is an awesome ride and the handling is amazing. Ill be driving my MX5 regularly for my 1 hour commute. Forget the highway, give me a winding, two-lane road and Im in heaven. Im 61" and I feel great driving this car.

One word: FUN. Everyone says it but its true. Bought used with 29K miles and after 10K more miles I can say that Ive had zero problems. I drove it from VA to Maine with a passenger & luggage and loved every mile. Using the top takes mere seconds. Fun & practical daily driver too w/ excellent turning radius & good ride quality. Lots of little cubbies for smaller things. Maintenance: cheap so far. Of course with most any small roadster youll run into storage issues. For example, I cant fit my golf bag in the trunk without removing the longer clubs. Performance: Nothing earth-shattering - just FUN. Its relatively diminuitive size and mass make it very maneuverable and acceleration is brisk.

My bride and I just bought this today, and what a roadster! Tons and tons better than the 1976 Triumph Spitfire I drove in high school. Handling and the top down experience are all above reproach. Plan to keep this car for a least 10 years plus and use it as a third car.

I really enjoy my 2006 roadster. It is the best handling car I have ever owned. It takes turns at 65 miles an hour, not too shabby. I will take handling over real fast anyday.

Great handler with good power. Communicates well in corners and inspires confidence to push on. It has enough power to make pushing on fun. But beware, this is not a quiet ride. Engine speed at 70 mph is 3500rpm. The exhaust is loud at that rpm. Road noise comes through the wheel wells, and the tires throw up little pebbles which create noise. The car is low so egress and entry are difficult. Once inside a six footer will fit, but this is no Caddy (duh). Fuel economy is 25- 27 in mixed driving on any grade of gas-not great. Lastly, OEM Michelin Pilot Preceda are great in wet/dry, but useless in any light snow

  • Replaced My 95 - 2006 Mazda MX-5 Miata

After 11 years of constant fun it was time to upgrade. Ive been waiting anxiously for the 2006 and Im not disappointed. Much faster, much better ride, quieter, and just as solid. I love the new roof design, although I worry that the front panel will fade differently than the rest of the roof. But, since the roof is only up when it is raining, I doubt that it will ever show. We love the car so much, my wife is trading her Mercedes SLK 320 for another Miata (I cant bring myself to call it an MX5) as soon as she can find the color (Copper Red) that she wants.

  • Still the best - 2006 Mazda MX-5 Miata

This is my third Miata and it is still the best bang for the buck! Great styling and even better handling.

  • Simply Too Much Fun - 2006 Mazda MX-5 Miata

This is actually my second Miata (I had a 2003) and while I loved the 2nd generation, the improvements to the third are fantastic. The car is just a blast to drive - feels much more rigid and refined than the 2nd-gen, while maintaining the cars signature dynamics. The additional room (Im 61") was more than welcome, and more power is always a good thing as well. It splits commuting duty with a motorcycle - and is as close an equivalent to a four-wheel bike as youre going to find for this price. It is just impossible to have a bad day behind the wheel. Do NOT test drive unless you are completely prepared to buy, because theres a really good chance after a spin youll be signing papers.
