This Year's Model Updates:

Other than the Nakamichi audio system value package no longer being available, there are no changes for the RX 300 this year.

Pros:
  • Well-appointed interior, perfect road manners, excellent crash-test results, optional four-wheel drive.
Cons:
  • Allergic to major off-highway work, cumbersome LCD screen in center of dash, feels more like a minivan than an SUV.

  • Nice luxury SUV that needs power - 2002 Lexus RX 300

Nice overall vehicle for the money. But noise is definitely noticeable for a luxury car on highways. Serious improvements needed in engine power. Vehicle actually starts losing speed fast while going uphill. Transmission shifting is not as smooth as touted in reviews.

This is our third suv and all I can say is wow, did extensive inquiries and shopping. The Accura was a close second, the Mercedes-Benz did not even come close in the ride, looks and comfort of the Lexus. A deffinate plus was the relationship with the dealership, they could not have been better. Very knowledgeable, concerned and helpfull.

I really love my Lexus. My heart was set on the X5 but after driving both, the Lexus has a smoother ride. The dash isnt as massive as the X5 and I just believe for my style the Lexus is a better match.

  • Ten cars later, the best ever - 2002 Lexus RX 300

I have had 10 cars, and I said the very next one I get would be a Lexus. After much independent study and comparisons. I finally got it. This car is absolutely awesome. Find an authorized mechanic shop that works on high end luxury cars and keep it maintained (as with any car). I see years of comfort and happiness, my daughter expects to get this car, when I upgrade. I never want to drive another car.

  • Lexus Update - 2002 Lexus RX 300

In the six years Ive owned the RX 300, I can say the extra cost over a Toyota was worth it. I had my first maintenance problem, a loose hose on the smog system due to bad roads kicking up debris. The RX has survived a run through a rock slide with only a blown tire. The other vehicles around me were totaled per the state police. The vehicle is easy to drive and predictable to keep you out of trouble. I would definitely recommend this year model providing maintenance was done per schedule. I will probably buy another Lexus except I moved to a town with only a Toyota dealer so I wiil probably go with Toyota. Thanks to all previous posters who convienced me to but a Lexus. Hope this helps.

  • Best Used Car I Ever Owned - 2002 Lexus RX 300

Purchased my RX with 84K miles and a 100K warranty. Car was in spectacular condition and according to service records had been meticulously maintained. Dealership found a leaky rear axle seal under warranty, but had no other issues. The 90K maintenance was a bit pricey (timing belt, flushes, et. al.) but reasonable. A fuel modulator had to be replaced right after warranty expired for @ $700 parts & labor. Have not encountered the engine failures that others have reported. Fit, finish & features still solid at 115K and dealership has been just wonderful. Bought an 07 ES 350 two months ago and the trusty 02 RX has become our fun, weekender. This vehicle sold me on future Lexuses from now on!

A great SUV. Interior little small for six footers or over. Gas mileage sensitive to speed. Would purchase again because of quality and reliability. Can put up with minor inconveniences in the "cockpit", e.g., the big hump in the cener that bumps your knee when you enter the vehicle and in the way of your right knee when driving.

  • The RX 300. - 2002 Lexus RX 300

Steering SUCKS, Car has the ever so FAMOUS Glove box rattle, and some other noises that just arent worthy of the 44K price tag (out the door.)The goodyear Intergerity Tires Look LIKE and are CRAPPY. The car rides very nice, is pretty quite, but has developed a front end Squeak that seemingly cannot be fixed @ 22K miles. It has been a good car, but the V6 LACKS the power that can be purchased elsewhere for the +40K we paid. IE, INFINITY, JEEP, Mercury! We like the car but it is ?able @ 44K.

The quality, the ride, and the salesmanship of the this Lexus became the only reason why I purchase this vehicle. Owning this vehicle for less than 1 month, the enjoyment that I got from it is second to none. Perfect seat support, quiet and smooth ride, silky smooth engine (though it is only a 3.0L), center information panel (either you love it or you hate it), and the second to none Lexus service and salesman attitude. If I decide to buy another car, Lexus will be my first choice.
