This Year's Model Updates:

For 2004, Jaguar has reduced the base price of the X-Type 3.0 by almost $3,000. In other news, the Sport Package now includes 18-inch wheels and a 320-watt sound system. All X-Types get redesigned alloy wheels, as well as a revised front bumper and new foglights. The trunk lid has been reshaped and the push-button release for the trunk is now easier to operate.

Pros:
  • Comfortable highway ride, attractive styling inside and out, standard all-wheel drive, large trunk.
Cons:

Looked at all of the competitors. Liked the Jag better than the BMW 328 and fell in love with the MB E320. Everyone has a Benz though and BMWs and MBs lease programs couldnt compete.

I bought a new 2003 Acura 3.2 TL when I decided to purchase an entry level luxury car. After 1 year I traded it for the 2004 Jaguar. Driving the Acura was like owning a Honda Accord. The Acura had paper thin sheet metal, a fair interior, and I received 2 recalls on the engine & transmission. After 2 years of owning the 2004 Jaguar I am still impressed. Great build quality, great interior, good power, great AWD, and no problems or recalls. The Jaguar dealer provides great service on the FREE scheduled maintenance. This is a great entry level luxury car.

I have owned this car for six weeks and am more than pleased. I cannot imagine a better value for the money (luxury car with leather, wood interior, AWD, sunroof, climate control, etc.) thanks to the marketing incentive. The styling is superior and the car turns heads. Who would buy a Honda Accord for $25K when you can but a loaded Jag for a few thousand more? Qaulity is very good so far. Drive is pleasing. It seats four average sized adults but could be a little bigger. I recommend this car highly!

  • Best car ive had - 2004 Jaguar X-Type

Great car, inside and out. Sporty exterior, and user friendly interior. Relatively smooth ride with great handling and respoinsiveness, and the engine has plenty of "get up and go" considering the size of the engine. However, a faulty thermostat and faulty cooling fan regulator have both left me waiting for flat bed :( . In both cases, the warrantee covered all repairs and labor charges. Another drawback, the stock sound system is very weak for a Jag, I was very dissapointed. Overall, I LOVE THIS CAR!!! VERY FUN TO DRIVE! Now im just waiting for the 05 introduction of the X TYPE R :)

  • Great performance & dependability - 2004 Jaguar X-Type

Sadly, I totaled my Jag last week. It had over 105,000 miles and still drove like it was new off the lot! Whether in sport mode or regular this Jag hugs the road like a dream, stops on a dime, and accelerates on demand. Of course, I did service my car regularly- -which helps with whatever car you own. I had no doubt in my mind that the car would have rolled over 300,000 miles. Ive owned Mercedes, Lexus and BMW and would (hands down) place this car above all of those on reliability and performance. I am currently looking for another X-type to replace it!

We have had our 2004 Jaguar X-type 3.0 for four years now and we love it. Have not had one single problem with it. We regularly drive it on the autobahn in Germany where we live. It is electronically stopped out at 126 MPH but anywhere from zero to 126 MPH, the car handles like it is on a city street doing 35 MPH. I would recommend this car to anyone. It is AWD and handles great in snow or in rain. We have videos of us driving 90 MPH on snow covered roads. Extremely comfortable on long trips. Heated seat for the winter. Love it!!

  • Cats, Bimmers and Subies 70K Update - 2004 Jaguar X-Type

I bought it out of the lease only because it was the cheapest way to go. The tire wear was somewhat solved by using Fuzion HRi tires, good for about 30K miles. The headlights bulbs by going to GE silverstars, and the dash vents, superglue. Now the shocks all need replacement, and its a good thing this car is mostly Ford because most anyone can work on it. The dealer wants an arm, leg and one or two other appendages to replace them. I will be wary of buying another Jaguar.

Excellent handling and looks. Like the engine and tires. Would have liked larger speakers. Dealer attention is excellent.

  • OK but Reliability Issues a Concern - 2004 Jaguar X-Type

I did tons of research when I purchased this car. Bought for ridiculously cheap price. All and all drives nice, on par with other entry level luxury vehicles. Many issues have popped up including replacement of propshaft, faulty seat heater, grinding noise when braking, faulty sunroof (had to be fixed twice). For price I paid, and magnitude of repairs (small but annoying) I am not unhappy but if I had to do it again, I would probably have purchased the Volvo S-60 instead.
