This Year's Model Updates:

Jaguar beefs up its presence in the luxury category with the X-Type, a brand-new model that brings the company's range to four. The X-Type is a fresh breed of cat for the manufacturer: it's Jaguar's first-ever all-wheel-drive vehicle, and it's priced to tap the entry-luxury segment.

Pros:
  • Reasonable pricing, sporty handling, currently the only Jaguar available with a manual tranny.
Cons:
  • Spartan interior design, some less-than-prestigious Ford-themed switchgear and exterior styling cues, price goes up with options faster than you can say "Ford Mondeo."

  • Well it is early, but what a deal - 2002 Jaguar X-Type

Okay, I was looking for AWD for the snow conditions we live in. Subaru, Honda, 100k miles 15 grand plus. I found a 2002 Jaguar AWD with 29k miles! 10 year old car looks brand new! Amazing 1/2 the price of them japanese cars! I drove it home on the curvey mtn roads and that auto/manual tranny, I never had to use the breaks! Got about 25 mpg fwy, and 19 mountain roads. I never expected to get an older vehicle that is like new!!!

I have only had my jag for 3 months, and within the 1st week, the driver door lock failed allowing me no access. Never use the emergency brake. dont even touch it, because you will have a annoying loud clunking under the car for about 2 days until it wiggles it way back into place. Dont expect your car to start either. Fuel pump replaced at 29000 miles. Many other problems, seats recline on own when away from car, air bag failure light comes on and off. Wiper hoses dissconnect, seat stablizers loosen easily, crome worn out before 30,000. Still cant figure out how to get vent feature on a/c system.Im selling at 32,000 before i cant get my money back.

  • Edmunds is all wet on this Jag!! - 2002 Jaguar X-Type

Edmunds got it all wrong on its review of the X type. This is my first Jag. After two BMWs, this car rides as well if not better than my former 5 and 3 series cars. It handles great and it clearly gets the looks and great comments that BMW never did. Most importantly, in the first 100 miles of the car, I was nearly in an accident. It responded perfectly. So far, I couldnt be happier. Its a joy to drive. The dealership in the Pittsburgh area was first rate too.

I researched all the usual suspects: Benz c-class, BMW 3 series, Audi A4, etc. and ended up buying the baby jag. Love it. Its bigger than the rest and truly stands out. Definitely leaps and bounds better than the rest of the pack.

This car has been a total joke (unfortunatly, on me). There isnt space or time here to elaborate on all the problems this car has had. New ones keep popping up ever day. The worst part is that the dealer AND the manufacturer dont have a clue on how to resolve them. The car now sits in my garage where it can do the least amount of harm to my peace of mind untill I can get Jaguar to take it back.

  • ALOT OF WOW FOR A LITTLE CASH! - 2002 Jaguar X-Type

I have now owned my Jag for over a year and am satisfied with my decision. Ive owned Acura, BMW and Mercedes. This is my first Jag and Im a convert. Ive had no problems with the exception of a seal on the washer fluid jet that would allow fluid to seep out when I exceeded 65 mph. Dealer fixed it with no problems. I had my last Benz in the shop all the time. Turns more heads that a Benz or Bimmer. I wish the gas milage was better but considering it is AWD its better than any SUV and it will take me any where I need to go. 2003 models lowered the base price. It a bargin for its class. I definitely recommend this car.

  • Great Entry Into Luxury Sport - 4Dr - 2002 Jaguar X-Type

The first year had a separate Sprt Model which added the needed wheels & trim - including sport seats. We love ours - Great Sytle with distinctive Jag look. We love the Sport Seats which fit my wife best (its her car and she loves it). Decent pickup and go with a nice Jag/sport growl to the motor. The car is set for moderate/strong play. Looked at BMW, Lexus, Audi, Saab, Infiniti G35 prior to buying - Carmax made us a good deal - much less than the others. We drive it hard in the Carolinas and have no issues.

  • We love our Jag - 2002 Jaguar X-Type

Nicest car we have ever owned. Dealer is great. Love the power and handling of the 3 liter, 5 speed. Seats very comfortable (I have lower back problems and can ride long periods in comfort). Ours is Phoenix red- get lots of looks and compliments. Test drove BMW 3 and 5 series, Volvo s60 and Jag was best. Exterior and interior are beatiful. Birds eye maple dash, sunroof and stereo controls on steering wheel are great. Love to see occasional poor reviews-keep this jewel a secret and not see a Jag at every light-like a BMW.

Beautiful paint job. Fantastic steering. Great gearbox. The all-wheel drive system is fabulous - goes like hell in the rain and snow.
