This Year's Model Updates:

The Ford F-150 gets a few minor changes for 2012. A 36-gallon fuel tank is standard on all four-wheel-drive F-150s with the turbocharged V6 engine. Other drivetrain upgrades include a new two-speed automatic transfer case for upper trim levels and an electronic locking rear axle that replaces the limited-slip option on many models. Also, all 4WD trucks now have neutral tow capability, meaning customers can flat-tow their F-150 behind a motorhome. Finally, the Sync system gains expanded capabilities (AppLink) for smartphones.

Pros:
  • Inviting and functional cabin
  • Powerful and fuel-efficient engine lineup
  • Innovative electronics features.
  • Distinctive special-edition models
Cons:

  • Not so Eco Friendly Eco Boost - 2012 Ford F-150
    By -

Bought a 2012 F150 Lariat with 80K miles on it. It now has 90K miles on it and Im getting rid of it and heres why.... Pros: very comfortable ride, plenty of power when not having issues, lots of storage space and rear seat space, interior quality is nice. Cons: the ecoboost engine has been getting worse and worse gas mileage the more I drive it. I get about 12.5 mpg city and 18 hwy. As mentioned by several others, it has a serious lag problem when you go to accelerate past a vehicle. First time I had this happen I was traveling up a hill trying to pass a semi truck. The vehicle felt like it was going to shake apart and seems like the transmission is complete junk. Now Ive been getting a horrible humming noise any time theres rain or snow at slow speeds and while slowing down. Ive had 4 mechanics including ford look at it...I keep getting "weve never heard anything like this before." Ford has been useless in finding a solution to the issue. As nice as the truck looks and rides, its not worth the engine/transmission issues it will give you. Id look at at GMC in the same price range.

  • First Ford-- Last Ford - 2012 Ford F-150

Never owned a Ford , never will again, besides the ridiculous sticker price on this car, Ford is less than helpful given the handful of issues I have had since I purchased the 2012 in December of 2012. Since then, transmission needed to be REPLACED - 35 days at dealership, brakes were suppossedly done at dealership, only to find out they charged me but never touched the brakes, discovered 4 months later after purchasing the 2nd set of tires for the vehicle. Just spent another 38 days at dealer for stalling issue. Fuse box replaced - Satelite antenae needed to be replaced. Just got in car this am and now the heated seats and the mirror defroster doesnt work. I am so sick of this piece of crap - I WILL NEVER RECOMMEND OR BUY ANOTHER FORD AGAIN.

  • 2012 F150 ECO BOOST ENGINE JUNK AT 84,000 MILES - 2012 Ford F-150

Ford should have warranted there Eco boost engines at100,00 miles so I dont have to replace it at 84,000 miles with my own money.

  • JUNK!!! - 2012 Ford F-150
    By -

More problems than anything I have ever owned! Engine was replaced under warranty before I bought the truck (I was not told about this at the time I bought it. Dealer "didnt know"). After owning the truck for 2 years, it STILL does not run right. Tired of taking it to the dealer. Transmission is GARBAGE. Very sloppy shifting and has developed a slipping problem between 2nd-3rd gears. Numerous squeaks and rattles throughout cab. Rear window defroster overheated and caused window to shatter. Had to fight with Ford to get SOME of the cost covered under warranty. Very sloppy repair job, broken glass in the bed and under the back seat when I picked the truck up. There is rust all over the body, the truck is impossible to align. I am sure I am forgetting a few other things as well. Warranty support from Ford is WORTHLESS!! Either they cannot duplicate/diagnose problems or Ford will not cover the repairs under warranty. Do not let them fool you with "bumper to bumper" warranty coverage! Ford should be embarrassed!

  • OK truck but beware of the 5.0 engine - 2012 Ford F-150
    By -

Just my opinion from my experience, I have 29K miles on my 2012 F150 XLT 4X4 Super Crew 5.0 and so far am not impressed with the quality. Between the wind noise, rattles, engine ticking, and knocking along with oil consumption issues there is no way in the world I would do the F150 5.0 over again. Google 5.0 Coyote knocking or ticking. And check out any Ford truck and F150 forums online and look it up even the Mustang forums are lit up with concerns and complaints about the new 5.0s. I been wanting to get a F150 for a long time but now that Im here Im going back to a Tundra as soon as I can. Again this is just my personal opinion/experience.

  • Best of the best - 2012 Ford F-150

This truck is amazing in all ways you would need a truck. I have owned or driven just about all the different brands and let me tell you nothing beats this F-150. I have had 90,000 trouble free miles out of my ecoboost. Most people that complain about mpgs do not understand the point of this engine. It pulls like no other 1/2 ton on the road today. There are many compairson videos avalible. The hemi, chevy 6.2 are no match to the low end at a lower rpm. If driven right you can get above the mpg listed with an empty truck and not towing. No other crew cab has near the room this truck does. With the flat floor and the rear seats up, you have a very large space to haul inside the cab. Awesome

  • good work truck - 2012 Ford F-150
    By -

bought a 5.0 L V8 (no EcoBoost), basic work truck no extras, drove a chevy for 10 years and it took time to get used to Ford (drives like a truck), have had no problems and used 4x4 many times this winter with no problems, good towing capacity MySync is terrible (i have the base version) i would not buy the extras because it would quickly add cost with little extra enjoyment of the truck

  • DUPED BY ECO-BOOST MPG - 2012 Ford F-150
    By -

I too was duped by the MPG that Ford so proudly advertised youd get with the new Eco-Boost 3.5L engine. I have had mine a year. I have a friend who bought the 5.0 v8 F150 and his gas mileage is far better than mine. Makes me mad since I paid more $$ for this engine to get less MPG. I would not recommend this engine to anyone unless you were pulling something all the time. Someone mentioned lights leaking, mine are also leaking and the visor mirror is in need of repair as the lid wont stay closed. Wish I wouldve listened to some of the reviews I read when I was buying this truck. My advice is dont buy the chrome package either, it turns out its all plastic and hard to keep clean.

  • FX2 w/ Ecoboost - 2012 Ford F-150
    By -

Well i traded in my 04 z71 ext cab for this thing. At first i was extremely impressed with the power the ecoboost had, especially over chevys 5.3. Over time though (its been a year) I honestly wished that i kept my silverado. The advertised gas mileage is a croc. I barely get 20 out of it on the highway with cruise on. TX speed limit on most of the highways i travel is 75, and i barely can get over 18 with it. If you are looking at one with a 5.0 go with that, at least you know youre getting near your advertised mileage. The low end torque is great for pulling but its not that much different over the 5.0 honestly. This truck had a hefty price tag and i wouldnt buy one again.

  • Dont get the echo boost - 2012 Ford F-150
    By -

I have owned every model half ton truck there is from ford to Toyota. I was excited to read the reviews and read all the info I could about the latest and greatest f150 with the Eco boost engine. Ordered one just the way I wanted it. Dont believe the hype. The engine is a dog. Yes it will pass everything out there, except a gas station. I know several owners of this hyped engine and no one gets anything close to the promised gas mileage. We all get about 14 to 15 combined average with 16 to 18 on the road. Love my 2013 new dodge 2500 and get 18.9 with it.
