This Year's Model Updates:

The Chevy Malibu Maxx gets a few updates for 2006. Most interesting is a new performance-oriented SS trim level that features a 240-horsepower, V6 engine. Chevy has also juggled the trim levels: the base model is now called the LS, the former LS is now the LT, and last year's LT is now the LTZ. Other minor changes include freshened front-end styling, new wheel designs, flashier trim pieces for the instrument panel, a new four-spoke steering wheel and standard child security rear door locks on every trim level.

Pros:
  • Hatchback configuration makes for easy loading, spacious interior with adjustable rear seats, plenty of safety and convenience features, innovative remote-start feature, standard V6 power.
Cons:
  • Lackluster interior, subpar braking and steering, less cargo space than true wagons or SUVs.

  • Great comfortable ride - 2006 Chevrolet Malibu Maxx

This was the first brand new car I have purchased. I love it! It gets great gas milage for the long trips. But doesnt fair so well when traveling the gravel roads. I tend to put about 20,000 miles per year on a car and I havent had any problems with mine untill this spring when our road became a mud road (instead of gravel). It sits to low to the ground and scraped bottom several times causing some minor problems with the traction control and ABS.

  • Great All-Around Vehicle - 2006 Chevrolet Malibu Maxx

Owned only 3 weeks but exceeding expectations. BMW/Vette owner that needed all round daily driver that drives well, has 4 person practicality, holds my offroad bicycle inside, and gets decent mpg. Found 4K mile SS by accident at dealer lot. Surprised with features. Dual sunroofs, XM, OnStar, DVD, 6CD, as well as space, quality, and value. Having been to Europe alot I like the styling and have never seen another Maxx SS (live in big city). Good power, ride, handling, dynamics, ergonomics and excellent value! MaxxSS replaces my Z71 Tahoe - almost as much cargo space but much more fun to drive and better mpg. GM/Saab platform for this car is very solid and sophisticated for this price level. Recommend!

  • Malibu LTZ to the MAXX - 2006 Chevrolet Malibu Maxx

This is one of the best kept secrets at your local Chevy dealer. The quality, ride, interior function are world class. Chevrolet market needs to get the word out on this one. We drove the Maxx from Ohio to Fla in December and average 31 mpg! Tons of room and teenage sons and friend love the room.

  • Best car I have ever owned! - 2006 Chevrolet Malibu Maxx

I love the the car what more can I say! Chevy has hit it on the mark. I had several Toyotas and was a bit worried about going to a Chevy, but no regrets here at all. I bet if more people test drove this car there would be a ton more sold!

  • Great to the MAXX! - 2006 Chevrolet Malibu Maxx

I love this vehicle. After owning Honda Accords and Nissan Maximas for years, my wife and I were looking at small SUVs. However, the insurance and MPG were not up to snuff for someone with a 60 mile commute. This car gets over 30 mpg on the highway and 25 in town. It is very roomy and comfy. The backseat has more room than my mother-in-laws Town Car! Great sound system. Got a great deal and is a CPO. I teach school and the other teachers are jealous. I dont know why Chevy has kept this one a secret. Too bad it wont be back for 2008. The hatchback and adjustable rear seat are great. I love the remote start!

I have been driving Saabs for 20 years. The Maxx is on a Saab platform. Fit and finish not as good but engine has more pep. I like the hatchback. Price is right. Seats good.

  • OK, just OK - 2006 Chevrolet Malibu Maxx

Car drives OK. Mileage is way down from listed numbers. I do like a lot of things about this car but mileage is not one of them.

  • My favorite of all - 2006 Chevrolet Malibu Maxx

I was looking to buy a crossover SUV like a Nissan Murrano but when I found the Maxx I looked no more! I get the feel of a crossover with the fuel economy of a car and the safety of not having having the roll over risk! I thought my son would love the moon roof in the back but in fact he loved the console in the back seat and the many cup holders! I bought this as a used rental car and it was very well taken car of.

  • Overlooked and underappreciated - 2006 Chevrolet Malibu Maxx

I went in to the dealership to buy a Malibu sedan but after looking at the Maxx I was really impressed and bought it instead. This was a low mileage program car so I got a very good deal on it.The Chevy dealer was great to work with, repairing a few small items necessary to qualify as a Chevrolet Certified Used Car. The car gets great mileage, 28 mpg mixed hwy and city driving. I find it to be very comfortable and quiet with excellent power. I love the hatchback and the rear seat design is the most comfortable rear seat I have sat in due to its ability to recline. The driver area is quite functional and ergonomically comfortable as well as easy for me to get in and out.

  • A nice suprise from Chevrolet - 2006 Chevrolet Malibu Maxx

I had honestly not heard of this car until I visited the dealership. I had come in for an Impala and drove away with the Maxx! I liked it instantly, and test drove alot of cars. I was looking at the Ford Fusion for the same price, but the Maxx offered a standard V6, ABS, and a remote starter for less, and drove better! You truly get a lot for your money.
