  • I Will Miss It - 2005 Volvo XC90
    By -

After proudly owning a 2005 for 3 years and 35,000 miles, I will be switching over to a 2006 S60. After living in a large city for about a year now, I can no longer handle the 12 mpg that the V8 provided me in the city, and the parking. BUT dont get me wrong I drove my car from 67,000 to 96,000 miles. I loved every second of it. It was the SAFEST car on the road. If you dont believe me, check out the Volvo Saved my life club. I am slightly worried that the S60 wont be as safe. I had the Navigation System, TVs and Parking sensors. Never used the TVs but the nav system and parking sensors daily. Two more things I will be without, sadly

I was number 11 when i bought my volvo when it came out. i love the truck but here are some problems i experienced. Turbo lag @ 3000 rpm, leaks in tail light allowing water in, misaligned steering wheel slightly, an unusual sound in my engine that led to a broken transmission that needed replacement a year ago, depleted steering fluid @ 20,000 with reason unknown, engine hose leaking that needs replacing @ 30,000 miles, 4 tires worn out @ 30,000 miles, 2X changed front brakes, front rotor change last December. I have a Toyota that does not have most of his problem. Despite of everything I still like my truck, probably due to safety and looks, who knows

  • Good buy, but not a flawless car - 2005 Volvo XC90
    By -

Car is a 2005.Roomy and comfortable. Has not let us down so far ( at 55000km). It looks good and not too big. Still manoeuvrable in town, despite a high turning radius. Parts and tires are durable. Fuel economy is very good on the open road and highway (12/13 l/100), much worse in town (18/20 l/100) HOWEVER, car is hefty and ponderous, taking away any driving pleasure. Steering wheel too low, even when adjusted, sunroof lets in way too much wind noise. Leather quality of seats poor. Engine feels suprisingly strained and whining under effort. Exhaust sound is a letdown. Sounds like a German V6, not a V8. Disturbing loud clunks and thumps over road bumps. Good, but not flawless

  • My Opinion - 2005 Volvo XC90
    By -

Previously drove A4 and 9-5 but w/3 kids we needed something more practical. The SUV has traditional good looks that didnt go out of style 3 yrs later. The seats are still very comfortable. The third row seat has not been an issue and wont be unless you have a large teen or an adult in back. Even that is OK for a short ride. However not all is good with this SUV. The AC is nothing short of terrible. The Pirelli tires that came standard didnt make it to 25K. The plastic housing on the driver side craked. The tie rod broke at 42K The CD player no longer works. Lease is up and will look at GL450 X5 MDX.

  • great ride - 2005 Volvo XC90

This SUV rides like a car. It handles corners like no other SUV I have owned. This winter it had plenty of opportunity to show me excellent handling in bad weather. Fun features inside (like the windshield wipers that detect moisture) only add pleasure to a great driving experience. Still waiting on reliability as this vehicle ony has 4000 miles so far....

  • Not as fun as my X-5 but not bad - 2005 Volvo XC90
    By -

For the value, the vehicle is great. More than enough interior room to sit comfortably. Sluggish off the line but once you are up to speed, keeps up very easily with traffic. My biggest issue with the XC-90 are the blind spots on both the drivers and passenger side. Even with a quick turn of the head to look for traffic next to you, you do not always see it.

  • I love it - 2005 Volvo XC90

the only complaint I have about my xc90 is the key! It continually comes off my key chain and the mfgr fix didnt fix it! Otherwise Im a convert. I owned five bmws before the xc90 and theres just no comparison when you match price drivability and quality. the gas milage is excellent too. I have a 2004 now but im ready to trade for the 8 cylinder version. I have 51,000 miles on mine so you know I live in my car.

  • check engine 2 times in 5 months - 2005 Volvo XC90
    By -

Returned to dealer for check engine 2 times and 3 times because the windshield washer fluid does not work when temperature is below freezing. Still not fixed. I wonder if anybody else had the same problem. They changed a valve, but did not correct the problem. Scared to drive when it snows - defeats the reason for purchasing a SUV.I am taking it in again.May be I should get a new car. Otherwise drives well. 3rd row seating is too crammed.

  • 2 Years W/ My XC90 2.5T AWD - 2005 Volvo XC90
    By -

I am just completing my 2nd year of ownership with my XC90. As others have mentioned it has spent some time in the shop and seems to be recalled every 6 months or so. The XC90 is a very safe SUV and has a vault like feel to it very similar to Mercedes Benz. My biggest issues are all the little things that go wrong with it. I am now replacing the chrome window trim on the driver’s side for the 3rd time. The design of this is so poor, it’s held to the window frame only with double stick tape. There is also a removable armrest/storage compartment that is starting to fall apart and Volvo is refusing to replace or repair it. A great service department is key to owning this vehicle.

  • The SUV I Love to Hate - 2005 Volvo XC90
    By -

Ive owned my XC90 just over a year. Been in the shop over 6 times for warranty items ranging from the air intake on the engine to the air vents breaking. Most frustrating is that the same parts keep breaking. The air intake has been repaired 3 times and the vents 2. Ive also been frustrated with trim parts falling off and the third row seat breaking. Ive owned Volvos for years and have had little to know problems other than routine maintenance. This Volvo is the vehicle I love to hate. Love the ride and creature features, hate the reliability and build quality.
