Overview & Reviews
The big news for 2004 is the addition of a 2.0-liter diesel four-cylinder engine to the lineup late in the model year. The 4Motion all-wheel-drive system is a delayed option on 1.8T-equipped GLS models. Also note that the 2.8-liter V6 is no longer available on GLS models. The premium Monsoon stereo and Homelink are now standard on all GLS models, while wood trim has been added to the optional Leather Package. The ESP stability control system is now standard on the GLX. Rounding out the changes are restyled 15- and 16-inch wheels and new side mirrors with integrated turn signals.
- Fun to drive, excellent value in GL or GLS trim, roomy interior with upscale feel, outstanding build and materials quality, available all-wheel drive.
- Expensive upper-level models, less rear-seat room than some competitors, some confusing interior controls.

my 13th VW - the best ever - 2004 Volkswagen Passat
By Allan - February 12 - 11:03 pmComfortable to drive, Turbo gives great kick. Gas mileage 33-34. Since Apr 04 never been back to the dealer for problem. The trunk handles almost everything with back seats down. Fit and finish is superb.

Outstanding Car - 2004 Volkswagen Passat
By BDietz - January 16 - 11:10 pmThis is the second Passat we have owned, buying our first in 1995 and trading it on this one. The 2004 model (late year model is identical to 2005 model in appearance and specs) is a major improvement over the 95, though we loved it as well. In another four years or so I look forward to trading for the then current model of the Passat. This is the fourth VW we have owned over the last 35 years, having put at least 100,000 miles on each of them and over 200,000 on a couple (including a 1981 Rabbit diesel LS).

More than my moneys worth - 2004 Volkswagen Passat
By Jasonf - January 10 - 10:00 amAs a long-time truck driver the size of the wagon has taken getting some use to. I have now learned that bigger is not better! The Passat Wagon is fun to drive, safer than my trucks and all-in-all a very good value. Despite the age of the line I believe this vehicle to be one of the best looking wagons on the road. I actually feel I got more than what I paid for with the luxury, looks and performance the Passat provides.

Love my VW! - 2004 Volkswagen Passat
By schmoopy - January 5 - 10:00 amPurchased a used 2003 GLX Passat with 34K mi. It was a big change going from a SUV, but I love it. I did a lot of research and got a great price. I havent even had it a week yet, but am very happy. If you are looking for a car in this class, you must check it out. Great value for the luxury feel compared to other cars in the class. Lots of bells and whistles. Drives very smooth. Very fun to drive in the city and a great highway ride. Took a little time to get used to the way the gears change. Wish it didnt need premium gas.

Fantastic - 2004 Volkswagen Passat
By VWman - December 9 - 2:00 amThis is a wonderful car and my first vehicle. It is sporty enough to keep me happy but calm and luxurious to please passengers. The styling both interior and exterior is excellent- there arent many other cars in the world that look as classy as this.

Excellent Internet Buy! - 2004 Volkswagen Passat
By La Chula de Coban - December 3 - 2:00 amUpgraded from my 2000 Jetta, and paid less in 12/03 than I did for the Jetta in 06/00, and the Pasat has more expensive features (leather interior, 6 air bags, for example)! I found that Internet salespeople work on a salary, not commission: one saves a bunch! The 2004 Passat has a wealth of creature comforts & great engineering.

I love my Passat! - 2004 Volkswagen Passat
By Jalli427 - November 22 - 10:00 amMy Passat has been a pleasure to drive from day one, and now at 10,000 miles it remains so. I drive a lot for my job, and I look forward to getting in my car and taking off on a cruise. Its attractive, classy and responsive. It also handles amazingly in tough situations. Nice audio system, too. Need I say more?
