This Year's Model Updates:

For the 2010 Volkswagen Jetta, there is a refreshed instrument panel and cabin trim, a new climate control system and a new radio. Most trims also see a new leather-wrapped, multifunction steering wheel and standard Bluetooth connectivity. An iPod connection becomes a separate option (you had to get the navigation system before) while the SportWagen loses its SEL trim level and the accompanying turbocharged engine. The sport-tuned GLI has been discontinued. Finally, there's a new Limited Edition trim and the TDI Cup "Street" Edition debuts with an extra helping of tuner flavor.

Pros:
  • Diverse selection of strong engines, stellar fuel economy in TDI trim, upscale look and feel, comfortable seats, impressive cargo capacity in both body styles, pleasant ride.
Cons:
  • Below-average fuel economy with 2.5-liter engine, lackluster brake performance, small backseat compared to midsize competitors.

  • Excellent all-around car - 2010 Volkswagen Jetta
    By -

After having driven this car for 1,000 miles, there have been no problems with the car so far. The TDI makes this car very fuel efficient, averaging over 48 mpg, while being able to zip past cars when the need arises. The interior feels and looks upscale while the price is very reasonable.

  • Great Car - 2010 Volkswagen Jetta
    By -

Ive had the TDI Jetta for 4 months and put over 8,000 miles. Ive saved over $370 in fuel costs in the first 3 months. Ive been getting an average of 42-44 mpg and drive at 70-80 mph on highway. This car is a great alternative to a hybrid and is fun to drive. Ive also tested the Prius and Insight before making my decision. If you do a lot of driving I recommend that you take a look at this car.

  • Great gas mileage and fun to drive. - 2010 Volkswagen Jetta
    By -

Ive put over 3000 miles on the VW TDI since 15 March and have enjoyed it immensely. I hit 44 mpg on a trip from Memphis to Indianapolis and still had 3 gallons in the tank when I filled up only a half mile from my house. The car doesnt have as much kick as the VW Jetta 1.8T (our second car), but it is close and improves the gas mileage by over 10mpg. Gas mileage does take a hit going over 70, but you could probably get close to 50 going between 55-60. I wasnt about to get run off the interstate to find out. The stereo features a great sound stage because of the extra speakers, and the 16cf is great. In response to an earlier review, the car does have brakes that do work well.

  • Great Car...Engine noise when cold - 2010 Volkswagen Jetta
    By -

Previously have driven the Passat since 2003. Lease every 2 years. First experience with the Jetta. When starting from cold, annoying engine noise until motor warms up. Usually only last for 15 seconds or so...but very noticeable. Dealer tells me the oil needs to get into the lifters b4 noise will go away. Havent found any recalls or so regarding this condition. Miss the 2.0 turbo. What a treat to drive that engine. Perfect fit for the VW line.

  • good piece of advice.... - 2010 Volkswagen Jetta
    By -

I had this car for little over a month, 1900miles. Great car....but, I am ready to replace it for regular gasoline. The dealership found already traces of regular gasoline in my fuel system, even I only fueled only 3 times with diesel. You will have hard time finding a good gas station that doesnt mix the cheaper regular gasoline into the more expensive diesel fuel. Be aware, this becomes your problem, warranty doesnt cover this fraud. Replacing fuel system could cost you $6,000.

  • tdi fun to drive - 2010 Volkswagen Jetta

Did a lot of checking on many cars such as focus, civic and camery. After driving all of them so glad I went with the Tdi jetta. Has more pick up handles better then all the rest on the list and I am getting 42mpg going to and from work and one third of that is in the city.Inside the sound system is great. Love the seating and trunk space is great. You will love this car

  • Third TDI - 2010 Volkswagen Jetta
    By -

This is my third VW TDI. First one was traded at 7 years 210,000+ miles, second one at 7 years 200,000 miles. No major breaks or downtime. I am not too diligent on maintenance so these have held up well with basic oil changes at 15,000+ miles. Bought 2010 TDI wagon in July 2009. Great ride as usual. My wife wont give my car back. She left me with Windstar van which we will probably replace with TDI Touareg. Are we lucky not have maintenance problems? probably but very satisfied with VW reliability and mileage over 15 years.Great car to drive on long business trips. We now supply TDI wagons to our salesmen. We make up higher initial cost with better fuel mileage.I get 38 MPG mixed and over 40 hwy

  • rewarding vehicle - 2010 Volkswagen Jetta

Over 600 miles in the first two weeks of ownership. Great car. Easy to enter and exit.Handles well, comfortable, great visibility, performance and economy.Got 42.5 mpg on the first tank. 600 plus miles per tank easy to obtain.Great trunk space. We got the black with cornsilk interior, sunroof, dsg tran,17 inch wheels, southern package, ipod adapter. I have owned at leats 40 cars and this is a good one. It rivals the several mercedes I have owned in the past.I also have a 2008 Accord v6 and a 05 Tahoe. Great combination of vehicles. If you are considering a Honda or a VW..go with the TDI. It makes the vehicle.

  • Sporty Diesel - 2010 Volkswagen Jetta
    By -

Really happy, that sums things up nicely. If you are looking for a sporty sedan that gets better gas mileage than most hybrids, you found it. The first reasonably priced sporty diesel in the U.S., I can carve corners and still be good to the environment (and my wallet).

  • Silent Diesel - 2010 Volkswagen Jetta
    By -

This car breaks the diesel stereotype of being loud and dirty. This car is quiet and produces no black smoke. Its torque is fun, fuel mileage is great, and it is a sleek ride. I have owned this car for a week and no one I know even knows its a diesel. So far its solid. So far city driving 34 mpg during break in period.
