A completely redesigned Jetta sedan has arrived as a midyear replacement, but some versions of the previous version are still available. The GLI VR6 version of the old model was dropped from the lineup, while the GLI 1.8T added an automatic transmission to the options list.

  • Never again!!! - 2005 Volkswagen Jetta

I have had my 2005 2.5L for 3 years now. I have had to replace the timing chain and tensioners once already. 4 months later I had to replace the tensioners again. Thank god my Husband works on VWs cause if you take it to a VW dealer to get fixed your looking at a $2,500 job and thats on the low side. Now my car has an intermittent starting problem which after days and days of research I see that this has been a big problem for this car and several other VW cars. I have talked to a VW mechanic from a local VW dealer and he has said to get rid of the car, especially the 2.5L. He has been a VW mechanic for 35 years. Needless to say. I will never buy a VW again.

  • Cant beat the GLI! True sports sedan! - 2005 Volkswagen Jetta

This car has as much luxury as an Audi, much of the driveterrain is Audi, it has a big brake kit like the Audi TT, and the 1.8T motor and tranny are from the Audi A4. The real aluminum dash, recaro seats, and suspension are awesome. Get the GIAC chip it rocks this car, adds 30-40hp and its not dealer traceable. Turbo is smooth, gearing is awesome, this car is a true sleeper and underrated. For the luxury and build quality under the hood in the trunk everything this is a great bang for the buck, the only thing nicer maybe a BMW 3-Series or an Audi. This car drives and handles so smooth, around turns you want to feed the engine more. I get 26 mpg thanks to the really nice trip computer / screen usually found in more expensive cars.

  • Love Hate Relationship - 2005 Volkswagen Jetta

I have loved my Jetta since I bought it but it seems like too much is going wrong to make it worth keeping. I have had to replace almost 10 sensors on it, adjusters are breaking, and check engine codes are flying out of it like crazy. In the last month I have had to put close to 2,000 into the motor because of problems and there is only 90,000 miles on it. I take very good care of my cars and I have never had to go through this much of a headache with a car. I would never buy a VW again and if I could go back I would buy anything else.

  • New Jetta is a keeper - 2005 Volkswagen Jetta

Just got a new Jetta and the ride and performance of the car are in my opinion better than the Volvo S40. The interior is well designed and spacious for a small car. I love that 6 speed automatic with triptronic and sport shift.

  • No Regrets - 2005 Volkswagen Jetta

I bought this car as a family car (2 adults, 2 young kids) to replace our Honda Pilot. I must say I was very leary about getting rid of the bigger Pilot, mainly because of the loss in cabin and trunk space, but I have been pleasantly surprised by the amount of trunk space the Jetta offers, and interior space, especially in the back seat, is sufficient for our needs. The 2005 model offers a lot of "bells and whistles" standard that do not come standard in the 2006 model, and thats the main reason I went with an 05. The interior design and build quality are superb. The car is built like a rock. The ride is nice and sporty, acceleration is decent. Gas mileage is 20 C / 32 H after 700 miles.

  • Love this Turbo Jetta 1.8 - 2005 Volkswagen Jetta

They shouldnt have stopped making this Jetta GLI. Those who got the last of the 2005 Jetta before the new one came out are a lucky bunch. I was very relunctant to buy a Jetta after owning an Audi, Infiniti, and Acura but after test driving the Jetta GLI Turbo, I was sold. Its performance matches the Audi A4 quattros which we still own. Its turbo engine makes it very quick taking off especially when you put it in the tiptronic (5 speed automatic) mode. My only complaint is the seats - although they are sporty and they make for a fun ride manuevering curves, I still miss the luxury of my leather seats. But thats just me - Im sure many are happy with the Recaro sport seats.

  • Nothin Betta than a Jetta - 2005 Volkswagen Jetta

I love everything about this car. It handles great and has outstanding acceleration when you need it. It has a very comfortable ride and is very fun to drive.

  • Fun & Fast - 2005 Volkswagen Jetta

This is my 6th VW, my first was a 69 Bug. It is my third Jetta in a row and all the Jettas have been red. My brother is still driving my 96 Jetta! The power and shift points on the 05 GLI have been matched perfectly! This is a turbo hot rod. Its street appeal and overall handling combined with the turbo power make it a great car to drive! I too miss the heated seats, but have grown very comfortable in the Ricarros - its a true sports car - some luxury has to be lost when driving a car like this. I bought it late in the production because I love the styling and my 02 only had 23,000 miles on it. I use the cruise control and get no less than 25 mpg and even 30 on the hyway!

  • Diesel Only - 2005 Volkswagen Jetta
    By -

Excellent driveability and road handling is nearly sports car like in its response. The diesel engine has started without any assistance at -5F and the fuel mileage has been consistently 46 mpg. The 2001 VW, with the same engine consistently ran 50 to 55 mpg. That vehicle had 160,000 in three years with minimal problems.

  • Worlds better than last gen - 2005 Volkswagen Jetta
    By -

The new Jetta is soo much better than the 2004 model that I test drove. The new car has more standard features roomier, faster, and handles much better. The little touches are what makes a car better than its competition and VW has loads of them, from the rain sensing wipers to the turn signal mirrors with the courtesy lights in them, and the blue gauges are a nice touch as well. I went to the dealer looking to buy a diesel but Im glad I didnt this car gets better mileage than its rated 30 hwy I averaged 32 mpg and have heard stories of 37 mpg if you drive at the speed limit. If your looking for a lot of car for not too much money give the new jetta a try you will be surprised.
