This Year's Model Updates:

For 2011, the Toyota Tacoma's four-cylinder engine is a more practical choice now that it's available with an automatic transmission. Air-conditioning is now standard on every Tacoma, while all but Regular Cab 4x4 models get bucket seats. The front grille has been slightly redesigned depending on trim level and a pair of new off-road-oriented packages debut.

Pros:
  • Wide variety of body styles and trims
  • Well-appointed interior.
  • Strong safety scores
  • Impressive build quality
  • Engines offer a good balance of power and fuel efficiency
Cons:
  • Low seating position
  • Spongy brake pedal
  • V6 can get noisy.

My truck is 8 weeks old Tacoma. The truck is beautiful but Im having problem with the engine. I would call it raving problem. The bad thing is it does not happen all the time. Sometimes, when the truck is in neutral, the RPM is jumping up and down between 1 and 2000 rpm. The engine also roars. There is no pattern of when and how it happens. I took it to the dealer and they said the computer chip did not register any problem.. I start feeling regret that I bought it and will be stuck with the problem for a while. With all the negative publicity, I thought Toyota would care enough to have a better quality control.Does anyone out there have the same problem?

I have owned nothing but Ford trucks since 2000, but when looking to replace my 2002 Ranger, which was still screwed together tight, just too small, I looked at the Sport Trac, F150, Frontier, and then finally chose the Tacoma. I have the basic Double Cab 4x4 with the 6 foot bed, mileage is the same as my Super Cab 4x2 Ranger at 19 mpg, tows 6000 lb. The interior is comfortable and appealing, very Camry-like. The ride is smooth, and the truck eminates a quality feel. Although almost as long as a crew cab F150 or Sierra the truck is nimble. My only complaint is the low seating position in the cab. The truck sits up quite high, however the driver is seated much lower than in my shorter Ranger.

2011 Tacoma 4x4 5 spd std. this is the cheapest truck I have ever owned you cant make it any cheaper it doesnt look like its built to last to me I see why all the frames on the older models rust out cheap metal 4 cyl. has no power clutch is weak it cant handle light work let alone heavy . the worst money Ive ever spent, if you want a cheap truck and want to spend 26K than this is the truck for you.

Previously owned a Ford F150 with V-8. After 7 years, I made the decision to down size to the Tacoma. The Ford was more comfortable and much easier to get in/out of. Additionally, (and somewhat incredibly) the Tacoma only delivers about 1.5 better MPG. However, the Tacoma is much easier to park in tight spaces and rides on a par with the larger F150. Brakes on the Tacoma are adequate in spite of feeling as though there is air in the brake line (mushy). Also, be aware, the brakes squeak/squeal & you will be told by Tacoma that this is "NORMAL" If you are down sizing, be willing to accept less vehicle in interior/exterior space, ride, and hauling capability with little MPG improvement.

I test drove the Frontier before buying the Tacoma, in comparison the Frontier felt more sluggish and had a higher pitched engine note. The interior is surprisingly roomy, and the plastic dash components are solid and the buttons have some texture to them when you push (not simply plastic clicking on plastic). Back-up cam in the rear view mirror is a great idea I probably wont use that often. Tons of storage compartments under the seat and in the bed. Ride is surprisingly smooth and quiet, too easy to hit 75 mph, yet you still feel like you are in a truck. Refined everyday pavement driver that still made me feel in control as I raced through a field (its new Im not getting too intense, YET!)

  • Base 4x4 is great - 2011 Toyota Tacoma

Nice truck, smooth, rides high. Regular cab, bench seat, fits three people if needed. I Needed more cargo room than my 2003 VW Passat Wagon. 4x4 will be safe feeling in NY winters. I was looking for something pretty basic for my first truck. Quality, fit finish great. Controls clear. Power in 4 cyl. fine (no plan to tow, haul too heavy a load and dont worry about fast acceleration; savings on price and fuel economy did come to play here). Rail system is great. Is plenty of room to store back pack and big computer bag and other gear in cab behind bench seat (I am only 58" so i might have more room behind than a tall person) Will report back if any negatives develop.

  • Surprised by quality issues - 2011 Toyota Tacoma

My husband has a special place in his heart for the Toyota Tacoma, always has. We bought him his 2nd one, brand new only not long ago and now it has 7,000 mi. on it. It just started making an odd sound. We took in into the shop and were told that since the computer wasnt showing a code, they couldnt do anything. So, my husband looked at it at home and found that the fan shroud was rubbing. We it back up there & they decided this time they would actually look at it. They took it apart and found that the fan shroud was being affected by the radiator that was warped! Next, they found that all that was caused by a broken motor mount bolt. Week in the shop! We are not hard on vehicles.

  • Exactly what I needed. - 2011 Toyota Tacoma

I purchased my Tacoma about a week ago, so I cant really speak for the reliability of the vehicle yet, but so far Im still looking for every excuse possible to drive it. I was looking for a compact (a relative term in the truck market today) pickup mostly for my short commute to work and for the occasional weekend trips to Ikea. I dont have a big budget or a need for excessive features in a vehicle. I just need an inexpensive, reliable, versatile vehicle thatll keep up with me and this truck fits the bill perfectly.

  • Best truck ever! - 2011 Toyota Tacoma

I have been shopping around for a new truck for over a year now. I have test drove and researched every single one and this is by far the best truck out there. I was initially looking for a full size for my 4 kids but with the double cab, their carseats fit with ease. The interior is very nice and the seats are the most comfortable I have ever sat in. If you are going to get it I would highly recommended the TRD Sport package, because it handles like no other. As far as reliability, I cant speak on that for this one (2011), but I did have a 2000 Tacoma for 12 years and it was bullet proof, nothing but normal maintenance until the 125,000 mile spot.
