This Year's Model Updates:

Toyota's large SUV is completely redesigned. The 2008 Toyota Sequoia is significantly larger than last year's model and boasts a powerful 5.7-liter V8 and a fold-flat third-row seat. A new high-line Platinum trim level brings Lexus-like luxury to the Sequoia lineup.

Pros:
  • Massive interior with flexible seating, serene ride, graceful handling for its size, brisk acceleration and high towing capacity with 5.7-liter V8.
Cons:
  • Audio and navigation controls are nearly impossible to reach while driving, gets very pricey when loaded up with options.

  • This is really a great SUV - 2008 Toyota Sequoia

This is my first large SUV. I traded in my 2007 Mitsubishi Outlander XLS for the Sequoia SR5. And I am very happy with it. I feel like the king of the road. I compared it to GMC, Chevy, Nissan and Mazda and the Sequoia stood out more to me with better engine performance 381 hp! 401 lbs torque, wow, better mpg, interior quality, comfort and better looking than most. Just buy it, you wont regret it!

  • almost perfect - 2008 Toyota Sequoia

I have had the vehicle for over six months now, and it is flawlessly executed, and easy to drive smoothly, even if it never hides its size. But there is a glaring flaw that might get me to return it when the lease is over: Cargo space. You buy a big vehicle like this if you have a big family, so the third row is always in use. Cargo space is minuscule behind that row, barely a foot of floor, with the seatback angling back, taking away space as you move up. If the vehicle were 18 inches longer, all of it in the trunk, it would be perfect for its mission.

I have a 92 Camry that I bought new 16 yrs ago and a 99 Sienna I bought new 9 yrs ago so I expected the Sequoia to be another "quality" Toyota and, 1,100 miles into this new vehicle, I have not been disappointed. We have driven through the Appalachian mountains twice and it rides wonderfully. With three growing children and a lot of long trips planned we wanted something bigger than the Sienna for these trips. Over a 6-month period I evaluated the Navigator and Armada and had to go with the Sequoia due to my personal experience with Toyota quality the past 16 years. We look forward to getting at least ten years out of this vehicle.

Very pleased with the first month of ownership of the new Sequoia. Traded 2nd of two Navigators owned for improved reliability and equal towing capacity. Early highway mileage is 22mph @ 65 mph; overall highway and around town averaging 17mpg on regular gas. Cargo area same size as Navigator. I purchased the Limited edition and added running lights, power rear door, backup camera. The Platinum edition requires 20 in. low profile tires which ride harder and are more difficult to balance. Nav system was too far away to safely use while driving and I have my own Nuvi I like better. With the Limited you lose memory seats. Toyota needs to unbundle 18 inch wheels, memory seats, nav, offer options.

  • Sequoia Platinum First Impression: WOW! - 2008 Toyota Sequoia

Ive owned this vehicle for less than 24 hours and I have only driven it home from the dealership but thats 50+ miles of everything from Interstate to rough dirt roads, and winding, washboard mountain byways in between. On and off pavement, dirt, snow and ice, I have never become so comfortable, so "at home", felt so secure and in command so quickly in my almost 50 years behind one wheel or another. Also, I have never been in a car/truck that was so thoughtfully designed with the American motorist/family in mind. "Fuel Economy" and reliability just guesses at this stage, With apologies to "Field of Dreams and Iowa: "Is this heaven? No. This is a 4WD Platinum Sequoia."

  • Love my 2nd Sequoia - 2008 Toyota Sequoia

We bought our second Sequoia six months ago and already put in 10,000 miles. We drove it twice to California coming from Texas and once to Illinois. I love driving it and family loves the long drive because of the comfort of the ride.

  • Best value for a hard-earned buck - 2008 Toyota Sequoia

I cant believe I paid more for my 02 Sequoia with less options than my 08. There was never a problem with my old one. I just couldnt resist upgrading to the current year and boy, what a deal! The power, the comfort, the features, the Toyota reliability, and then the price. It has the only excellent editor rating which I was skeptical but hands down, definitely the best buy if youre in a market for this type of SUV. Do your research, test drive them all, check the price, and the reliability. Why pay twice as much for a Land Cruiser or a Lexus LX? BTW, this Sequoia is made in the USA.

  • Why sacrifice XYZ - 2008 Toyota Sequoia

Significantly LESS headroom compared to my last Sequoia and the seats cant adjust down. Sunglasses on my head hit the ceiling. They also dropped the gas tank cover lock from the old Sequoia... why??? And they dropped the side moulding strips to protect vs door dings. And the gas mileage is much less than my old Sequoia, and much less than advertised. It is a great truck and very comfortable but I might think twice about keeping my old Sequoia. Dont get caught up in the hype!!

This is nice big comfortable truck. Ride is very good and truck has much power. If you need a large SUV for whatever reason, you should check this truck out. More refined then the others. I have been getting 15.8 mpg in mixed driving with only 2300 miles on the truck.

This is my first Toyota and first SUV. Got tired of the minivan style. Test drove any out there, Escalate, Yukon, Tahoe, Expedition, Aspen, QX56, Navigator. When you compare each of those cars to the Toyota, probably each will have a thing or two better than the Toyota BUT as a package... nothing is comparable. The ride is very close to the Navigator, the performance... well there is nothing to compare too! The interior is extremely roomy and especially the 2nd and 3rd row (both fold flat and recline). Compared to the previous model, it is amazing what Toyota was able to achieve. The interior could be slightly richer. I am getting around 15.5 MPG for mostly city driving. Try it!
