I have leased and driven (4) Ford Explorers over the past ten years and figured I would only drive Explorers forever. When my lease was nearing an end last month, I figured I look around at the competition. I drove the Volvo XC90, BWM X5 , VW Touareg, the latest Explorer and the Toyota Sequoia. Hands down, the Sequoia impressed me the most...and continues to every day.

  • Love My Reliable Soccer Taxi - 2004 Toyota Sequoia

While the Sequoia is not great on gas mileage, it has by far been the most reliable vehicle Ive owned. I bought a 2004 SR5 brand new and kept the oil changed. It still starts instantly like it did over 10 years ago. Ive taken my teenage boys and their teammates to tournaments, and everybody sat comfortably with enough cargo space for luggage and soccer backpacks. I have replaced the battery, shocks ,struts, and brakes. I have never replaced the timing belt, and it has almost 300,000 miles on it. I have had 3 drivers run into me while sitting still and this vehicle has kept me safe. My DVD player has never been great from day one. The movies get stuck in the player. The radio volume button has stopped working properly. The motor of the back window wiper has died. Neither Toyota or the dealership notified me of the ball bearing recall. Thank God I wasnt traveling at a high speed when mine broke. The arm rest is broken and the seat cushion has torn on the drivers seat. Ive owned Chevy, Ford, Nissan, and Infiniti. The Toyota has given me fewer problems and better performance than all of them.

  • Cabin too noisy - 2004 Toyota Sequoia

Overall I enjoy the vehicle, but at that price I should love it. The pros are its roominess,car-like ride and easy handling. But its access to the third seat is very challenging, the cabin should be quieter and a cargo cover cost $200. But it does have a nice presence amongst other cars on the road.

Researched new vehicles in this catagory. The Sequoia has the best resale and does not lose its value such as the Expedition and the Escalade. It has a five star rating for resale, Not that Im getting rid of mine anytime soon. I love the room it provides, and drives as nice as a luxury car.

  • Amazing - 2004 Toyota Sequoia

I bought my Sequoias right off the delivery truck. it had .02 miles on it when i got behind the wheel. I love it. I must admit, however, that I have had some big trouble with it. At 12,000 miles the brakes needed to be replaced and the compressor for the a/c quit. Again at 19,000 the brakes were bad. The service writer told me that this was a design flaw, and replaced my brakes with Land Cruiser brakes. They tell me that the sequopia was jsut to heavy for the original braking equipment. All issues have been adressed and I couldnt be happier. Heck, I get 14.8 MPG around town!!!

It is an excellent vehicle with roomy spaces for 8 passengers. It is also a well-designed vehicle.

  • Best SUV Out There - 2004 Toyota Sequoia

We hunted high and low for an SUV that was big enough to hold kids and dogs but that was not too big to take up too much room in the garage. We found it in the Toyota Sequoia!

This is a vehicle with all the bells and whistles. Comfortable and fun to drive. The only thing that needs changing is the straps that hold the second row of seats up when they are folded. Without the straps, the seats come tumbling down. The straps do come loose on their own and could cause damage to your cargo. This is a very poor design and I believe Toyota forgot to include a locking mechanism for the second row of seats until the first Sequoia came off the line. Then they realized they needed to do something and this is what they came up with as an afterthought.

We got ours in 2000 , and love it we also get better gas mileage than most at 20 to 23 for one of the largest Suvs. It was also funny when we moved to Hawaii the dealer did not no what it was.LOL
