  • Prius Fantasy Gas Milage - 2002 Toyota Prius
    By -

Prius is an excellent car, but the gas milage is not what Toyota claims, especially when you have to use the A/C like we do in Arizona, most of the year. The on board computer is very optimistic, when compared to the manual way (fill tank, drive, fill again to see how many gallons used, divide miles driven by gallons). It probably gets no more than any small sedan with a 1.5- 2.0L engine. However, it is very well made, an 8 yr warranty, and heavier feeling than smaller Toyota models. It has an ugly front end shape because they made it very streamlined. The trunk is very small, but seating is good.

  • buy prius over honda - 2002 Toyota Prius

I have nearly 22,000 miles w/o any problems to date......I average about 70 mi/day commuting.....what the reviews of this car (as compared to Honda) dont tell you is that Toyota covers your preventative maintenance for the 1st 37,500 miles of driving...and goes a step further than Honda by warranting all hybrid components for 8 years/100,000 miles...and the power train is for 60 months/five years....honda doesnt come close......... Great commuting car...and has a good, solid feel on the road......

The 2002 Prius is fabulous. I have owned it for 3 1/2 years with no problems. The car gives terrific gas mileage, steady, comfortable performance and excellent reliability.

  • What more could you ask for? - 2002 Toyota Prius

This car has everything you could want from a sedan--reliability, unreal MPG, and low maintenance costs. Its definitely not the sexiest thing out there, but the money saved on fuel could be spent on YOU instead of some oil execs salary. The seats are a bit on the proletariat side, and youll defeinitely notice their stiffness on longer commutes if youre used to leather seats. Overall, I love this car, and would reccommend it to anyone.

  • A good commuter ride - 2002 Toyota Prius

This car is solidly built for cars in its class. Road noise is average. The fit and finish is excellent. Despite its small size, the interior feels roomy for passenger and driver. Seating for four is adequete, for five is uncomfortable. The audio and heater controls could be better located for the driver. The acceleration is surprising considering the 1.4L motor. There is plenty of power to deal with quick jumps into the flow of traffic. The brakes are a little grabby, but I got used to it. The biggest drawback is the low friction tires: the car tends to roll over the sidewall a bit during cornering.

  • Lasted till all the batteries went - 2002 Toyota Prius

Got good mileage. then a few months back the steering wheel went out = $!,000. Then yesterday all the engine warning lights came on = $3,100 for batteries - cant sell the car now!

  • Good up till now. - 2002 Toyota Prius

Very pleased with car. Good gas mileage at 46.7mpg(owned 79 rabbit diesel)much greeneer than other car. Have tire problems now and needs alignment, warranty good for one free alignment up to 20,000. Have 24,000 on car now. Made mistake not looking at warranties closer.

  • Mileage not holding up over time - 2002 Toyota Prius
    By -

After 14 months the mileage began to fall and the dealer claims to find no problem. Mileage has never matched what the computer says, off consistently 2 to 5 miles, more lately. I got consistent 46 mpg first 14 months, more on long straight drives, then it fell to 23 mpg for a month, then gradually climbed back up to about 30. Climate control also stopped working efficiently. Mostly I like the car, but will switch to Honda this year as the dealer seems uninterested in the strange drop in mpg.

This car get phenomenal gas mileage, looks good and is fun to drive for a small car. People are always surprised on how fast the car moves for a small car, it is not a race car, but the electric motor gives a lot of torque from a dead stop. I also have a feel good experience that I am not contributing to global warming and sending oil money to countries that hate us.

  • Surprising Small Car - 2002 Toyota Prius
    By -

After driving this car for 100 miles, I am very surprised at its big car feel. Ride quality is very good as is interior comfort. The car feels extremely solid and makes you think youre driving a car as big as the Camry. Toyotas attention to detail is evident everywhere. Seems like the accountants were left out for once in designing this car.
