This Year's Model Updates:

For the 2005 Toyota Prius, a rear wiper is now standard, the sun visor material has been changed from vinyl to fabric, and the Smart Entry and Start system has been renamed the Smart Key System.

Pros:
  • Outstanding mileage, ultralow emissions, generous amount of interior room, hatchback utility, reasonable price, excellent build quality.
Cons:
  • Less power than other midsize sedans, some confusing controls, real-world driving results in lower mileage than the window sticker suggests.

I bought this car 4 months ago, and shortly after buying it drove it to San Francisco. (905 miles) It got 45-47 mph on the highway, and was incredibly comfortable, and has as much power as I needed under any circumstance. In fact, my wife and I drove straight through coming home; we just werent tired. I do enjoy this car!

I have owned a lot of vehicles over the years but the Prius has to be my favorite for all around driving satisfaction. Most of the professional reviews have "hit the nail on the head" as far as the pros and cons of the car. My mileage tends to hover between 47-51 MPG. The car is really enjoyable to drive and has no problem with steady driving of 80+ mph on the interstate to keep up with the flow of traffic. After 20K miles of driving the Prius, I have found it to be completely reliable and have not put it in the shop for anything but oil changes. I recommend this car to anyone who wants something economical without compromising comfort, luxury, styling or fun! I luv the Prius!

Its a fine vehicle. Ive shown it to many people and most are highly impressed by its features. I always show off the mileage of the vehicle, which always ranges from a low of 45 MPG to 57 MPG. There are a few glitches, including the glare on the monitor when the sun shines making it difficult to see. I suggest that they figure out a way to protect it from the sunshine. Another thing is the disabling of some features of the monitor, including phone numbers that appear when others call as well as map features. I understand why it is done, but when a passenger is in the vehicle, they should be able to use it when driven. The other is weak headlights. I feel Im blinded in night driving.

This is our second Prius. Our 2002 was great! This one is 100% better....more comfort, better gas mileage, larger vehicle, larger tires, and alot more fun to drive. Our Prius also comes with side airbags which makes us feel much safer. We are very very happy with out new car and will buy another next time around! Our experience has not been great with American made cars and were hesitant on going foreign........but we have had NO PROBLEMS with either of our Prius. THANK YOU TOYOTA

Waited 8 months for deliver - bought it with all the options. Never fell in love with a car before & Ive always owned good running cars (Acura Legend, Toyota Avalon XLS, etc.). Only item I dont know yet is how long the batteries will last - theyre warranteed for 80,000 - hope they last longer. I keep my cars well over 200,000 miles. I own it almost 18 months now & have over 33000 miles on it. Averaging 48 mpg city & highway combined.

The 2005 Prius is a fun car to drive. Its SO quiet and smooth and handles well. My husband and I prefer the Prius over our second car (a Mercedes convertible). Seats are very comfortable and have good lumbar support. The cup holders are excellent and very convenient (2 in the front, 2 in the doors and 2 for the back seat. Sound system is great. Rear luggage compartment is more than adequate. Back seat leg room is very spacious. Dash has a very simple and elegant design and is user friendly. Very large glove compartment and ample storage in arm rest console between the 2 front seats. Lots of foot space to easily enter and leave from the front and rear. We love it.

  • We love this car! - 2005 Toyota Prius

I bought this car without ever driving it as there were none in the showrooms. It has exceeded my expectations in every way. Coming back from Buena Vista, CO to eastern Iowa, we averaged 50.8. It has plenty of zip and we are easily able to pass slower traffic even ascending on mtn. passes. I have a back injury and the seats are plenty comfortable. With lots of room in the back we can transport fishing equipment, instruments, & plenty of luggage. Good leg room. There are many nice amenities such as two glove boxes and other places to stash glasses, etc. Being able to observe the gas mileage every five minutes has turned me into a more conscious driver. And with near zero emissions its a no brainer.

The tank is still FULL from the dealer, after one week and 100 miles! I cant stop thinking about "her" at night, in the morning, and during my day. Is it possible to Lust, Love and Commit to Prius? "She" is even better than MapQuest and Google maps combined! Always powerful, sultry looking, Smart in multiple ways, an efficiently pumping Heart, and filled with Soul. Luckily, my wife approves - and we are a happy family of three :) I LOVE YOU PRIUS!

The first several tanks average between 42~45 mpg for mostly city driving. I am pretty happy about that especially considering it is during Jan and Feb, the two worst fuel economy months. Didnt have any fuel gauge inaccuracy problem as stated by previous reviewers. The car produces several funny buzzing sounds when braking and after parked. It is not loud or annoying, but I was a bit worried initially until I realize it is normal (by observation and talking to the dealer). The acceleration is adequate but could use some boost. The car is otherwise great. A fully loaded car with a price comparable to a similarly equipped 4-cyl. Camry. I only waited for 3 weeks.
