Overview & Reviews
There are no major changes to this year's Toyota wagon, although new SAE testing procedures have resulted in lower horsepower ratings.
- Versatile cargo area, roomy rear seats, good gas mileage, generous standard equipment list, availability of all-wheel drive and stability control.
- Modest torque output, less fun to drive than its styling suggests.

LOVED it - but watch for SAFETY ratings - 2006 Toyota Matrix
By Kathi - September 16 - 12:10 amI had my Matrix XR for almost a year. I loved it and had only two minor problems that needed fixing (plastic piece on underside broke and my key would sometimes stick in the ignition). However, my car was recently totaled in a low impact (only about 15 mph) accident at a four-way stop intersection where the other car (a Jeep Wrangler) decided to proceed into the intersection after I was already halfway through. He hit my passenger side at a relatively low speed. However the damage to the side of my car was pretty extensive, mostly in the front passenger seat. I thank God my kiddos werent in the car! Just watch the ratings and get side impact airbags if at all possible.

Great Car No Matter What Your Size! - 2006 Toyota Matrix
By 1217trees - September 12 - 11:33 pmI have owned my Matrix for 2 years now. I love it. I am 52" and fit very comfortably and my son who is 66" has plenty of leg room and head clearance! This vehicle is so reliable and fun to drive. Love this car!

A Really Good Car! - 2006 Toyota Matrix
By Laurie - August 13 - 1:30 amI have a manual XR & it easily gets 34 mpg city & 41 + on hwy. With the back seats down, it sure can haul a lot of stuff. I think this car is under-rated. Ive not had a lick of major trouble, just usual mtce & oil changes, etc.

a little rocket - 2006 Toyota Matrix
By jacob - July 4 - 9:53 pmi can beat many expesive cars on acceleration. Its a great fun to drive car. roomy interior, which surprises guests. the only things that bothers me it taking a coin from the coin slot under the handbrake is difficult and the digital readout on the dash of milease is too dim and too small. The outside body looks as if someone hit it when you approach it from certain angles. otherwise its a bargain.

Just Got It - 2006 Toyota Matrix
By cybler - June 13 - 1:20 pmJust picked up the Matrix, so far, great car. Very smooth and quite on the highway and around town. Also picked up a 4Runner, so this one will be the gas saver. Save money and go for the lease, this is my first lease, but I think it will be good.

More car for the money - 2006 Toyota Matrix
By giltro - June 12 - 9:23 amBig guy in a little car, yeah right! This car is deceiving, truly has enough room for a 511 driver who weighs 275 lbs. Sporty and be ready to get some stares as you drive through town. Its just a great feeling!

Love My Matrix! - 2006 Toyota Matrix
By Lynne Richards - April 28 - 7:23 pmI just traded in my 04 Mustang for an 06 Matrix. This is my first Toyota and I absolutely love my Matrix! The gas mileage is fantastic. I love everything about it. The only small and I do mean small complaint is the engine bogging down when the air conditioning is on and slows the acceleration rate. Other than that absolutely no complaints whatsoever!

The Matrix - 2006 Toyota Matrix
By Chantel - March 12 - 5:06 amI absolutely love this car! Its my 3rd car, 2nd toyota. Reliability is awesome, gas mileage is as good as can be expected, low on inner city stop/go, great hwy. Its comfortable, great radius and handling on curves/bad weather. So much room-left the east coast for the west and all I took was my car and the stuff I fit inside-it was great! Also a great outdoors car-who needs a tent, when the seat recline w/so much room. I feel like a commercial, but I love it and everyone who drives it also loves it in the end, even if theyre skeptical at first. You get the space, without giving up the sport. I cannot find any major faults-boo to those who find superficial gripes.

My Toyota - 2006 Toyota Matrix
By D. Riddle - February 11 - 4:13 pmI had started out looking for a more fuel efficient SUV. I had never even heard of the Toyota Matrix. Went to the dealership to look at a Rav4. I found that the Matrix had more cargo space than the 2005 Rav4 I was looking at ... and was a more comfortable driving experience than the 2006 Rav4 that I was looking at. I am totally enjoying zipping around in this car. It feels solid and tight. More so than my old SUV. It sits higher than a sedan. I found a surprising fuel efficient option. Love it.
