This Year's Model Updates:

There are no significant changes to the 2006 Toyota Corolla, although new SAE testing procedures have resulted in lower horsepower ratings.

Pros:
  • High-quality and roomy interior, outstanding gas mileage and crash test scores, long list of safety features, illustrious reliability record.
Cons:
  • Awkward driver-seat position, bland on-road personality, gets pricey even when equipped with just the basics.

  • Mixed bag - 2006 Toyota Corolla

Got the used car in 2008. High resale value bites both ways, doesnt lose much value when selling, but aint getting as much as competitor cars when buying. Decent build quality, but some haphazard metalwork and greasing present, probably clogged doors drain hole. Car is relative quiet and comfortable, but steering feels artificial, especially when hard turning corners; feels like wheel orientation and steering dont match up. Rattling present at 30K, unacceptable for Toyota. Lot of blind sides when backing up; lot of newer cars seem to have similar problems (trunk too high, pillar too thick, window too small). Bumpers cant take a hit. Reliable but disappointing purchase.

Bought this car new after 2004 Toyota Corolla S had manual transmission failure. This car then had manual transmission failure under warranty. Then the ECM was recalled, failed and was replaced. Then the transmission failed again and out $3500.Then the ECM failed after one year so no warranty and out $700. Will never buy another Toyota again.

  • Reliable but boring - 2006 Toyota Corolla

I started driving my 06 Corolla about 1.5 yrs ago. It had 135K on it when I started (belongs to a company I work for) and now has over 200K. I drive everywhere from the highway at around 80 mph to long, windy, bumpy country driveways where I have to carefully pick a route around boulders, dips, bumps and puddles to avoid high centering. I drive the car like a New York city cab in town (time is a crucial part of job) and I often drive 50-60 mph on gravel roads. Car has held up extremely well! When I get home from a 400 mile during spring break up I am surprised the car held together. When i leave the next morning the car is unphased by the day before. Very robust car!
