This Year's Model Updates:

In an effort to make Camry ownership more affordable, Toyota adds an entry-level Standard model to the lineup this year. All 2005 Toyota Camry models receive freshened exterior styling with a new grille, headlamps, taillamps and wheel designs. All Camrys now have antilock brakes as standard equipment, and the optional automatic transmission for all models is now a five-speed unit. Inside, all Camrys feature Optitron gauges, steering wheel audio controls, a rear center headrest and upgraded seat fabrics. The XLE V6 now includes standard leather seating.

Pros:
  • Roomy, comfortable, quiet, plenty of safety and luxury features, high resale value, strong reputation for reliability.

  • Horrible mistake - 2005 Toyota Camry

Looking at trading it in after 2000 miles. This is a VERY disappointing car. The seats are horrible even with power adjustments I cannot get comfortable. The gas mileage is nowhere near what was stated. The transmission lag in dropping down is annoying. This is the worst car I have ever owned.

  • Poor Build Quality - 2005 Toyota Camry

Bought my Camry new and now have just over 70k miles on it. Has been religiously serviced and pampered. Issues with paint. Chips easy, rusts easy(in spots where there is no chips). Leaks through the driver side air bag when washed. Cars interior is noisy. Sounds like a ball bearing is rolling through the dash. On the passenger side it sounds as if the engine isnt even shielded and we get an airy high pitch noise coming into the cabin. Dash rattles in places. No thigh support in the seats. Have replaced several bulbs, front, rear lights etc. Dash control lights are out on a couple(Ive heard of other complaints about this). All issues came about within the first couple of years.

  • Camry slips in quality - 2005 Toyota Camry

We chose Camry because of reliability. I wish now I had not. Our 05 Camry has a problem knowing when to shift (either up or down). The dealership indicates the new electronic transmission is known for this problem and apparently Toyota does not have an answer. The hesitation in shifting is troublesome and will probably get worse with age. In addition to the transmission the Camry has very soft braking, another acknowledged defect by the dealer but one for which they have no cure. So beware!

  • This car is ok, but..... - 2005 Toyota Camry

I bought this used with 77,000 miles on it. The previous owners too good care of it. The fabric was nice and like new. Someone eventually ran into me at 101,000 and totaled it. It was good on gas, very comfortable and had power seats which I liked. The stereo sounded good when dialed up loud. The car looked nice except for the back looked outdated. I did a few minor repairs plus some major ones. There is a long bar in the front by the engine forget what they call it. It was going to cost me 1,200 to have fixed, I found someone for 700. It had some dry rot. Then around 100,000, the struts were going bad and that would have been 800. The owners had EuroTour Big O tires that were great and lasted a long time. Overall, an acceptable car. Too bad it was totaled.

Do not like the high rear end on the Camry. Do not like the rebound sound from the rear of the auto when you hit a moderate size bump. The front bumper catches parking wedges, which cause it to tear the thin plastic undercarrage.

  • Cheap Plastic - Rear Speaker Covers - 2005 Toyota Camry

Cosmetic and annoying. Plastic rear speaker covers in the LE crumble after 4 years and fall into the speakers. Toyota refuses to reimburse for replacement covers. Poor design choice and a hassle to owners.
