This Year's Model Updates:

As the Aerio is a recent introduction to the market, there aren't that many changes for 2003. Suzuki has bumped the horsepower up by four to 145 and nudged the torque up one pound-foot to 135. Other additions include integrated cruise control buttons on the steering wheel, a three-point seatbelt and headrest for rear center seat and a new cloth design. The GS and SX models drop the rear-seat armrest, get a six-disc in-dash CD player and have the optional all-wheel-drive available.

Pros:
  • Wagon-body style, available all-wheel drive, affordable price, large interior, powerful standard engine.
Cons:
  • Strange interior design, missing some key features.

  • OK BUT NOT GOOD ENOUGH - 2003 Suzuki Aerio

I WAS ACTUALLY DISAPPOINTED AND SHOULD HAVE BOUGHT THE MITSUBISHI LANCER

  • What a fun little car!! - 2003 Suzuki Aerio

I purchased my Aerio with 67k miles on it and man what a great little car! Great price point and good gas mileage. It is fun to drive and as a bigger guy I found myself strangly comfortable in this car and not pressed up against the window like some other cars. Overall a great and dependable car. Only thing I did was get 15" rims and tires, which helped with road noise and turning performance.

The small footprint makes it easier to park and to get around. Even though its small on the outside, theres ample leg and head room and plenty of space for hauling people and stuff inside. The engine is quite peppy. I have no problems merging on the highway or passing others. Some might find the digital dash a little distracting but its easy to get used to. All in all, I find my SX to be a GREAT car for the price. If youre in the market for a great vehicle with lot of standard options, awesome safety ratings and is inexpensive to boot, the Aerio SX is a fantastic buy. Its a nice for a new family too. Hopefully Ill be driving my Suzuki for years to come.

  • Basic car... Awesome reliability - 2003 Suzuki Aerio

I bought this car off my buddy who sold it to me with only 30K miles on it. I have put 20K on it so far. I agree that bumpers are kinda low. The interior is basic. It has a surprising amount of head room despite looking small from the outside. I disagree with Edmunds mileage assessment. I ALWAYS get above 30 mpg. (I have the 5 spd manual). I plan to drive this car in to the ground and hope to get 300K miles. The only bad thing about this car is that if you get dings and such, you can only get Suzuki parts (can be expensive relative to Toyota/Honda). If you have a Civic or Corolla, there are TONS of aftermarket companies that make parts.

  • What a surprise! - 2003 Suzuki Aerio

Well, its like falling into some "parallel" universe when you get in this car. It looks quite small, but once youre in, it feels cavernous. I like the way I feel like Im sitting "high" even though its a small car, and not an suv. Im a BIG guy, 61", 230 pounds, and I have NO problem getting in and out. The drivers door is quite long, it opens wide and entry/exit is a breeze. Amazing little car. Didnt expect to fall in love with it like I have, it was just a "second" car purchase to have an extra car. Love, love, love it!

  • Interior great (except display panel) - 2003 Suzuki Aerio

Okay, you have to understand I purchased this car for economical reasons. I drove an Integra that was quick and love to drive fast. This car is fairly zippy for fun driving downtown and is comfortable on highways. Its faster thasn the Protege 5, Toyota Camry and cheaper than a Civc once you add all of the sporty features. Id like to try and sell it before my lease is up so I hope it holds its value well!

Have enjoyed this car. Moves well although not so fast at picking up speed and up major hills works hard. Winshield defrost is not so good. The left and right sides of windshiel do not defrost well. Usually have to scrape when frosted. Side mirrors not too stable, jiggle in the wind. Overall, decent car if you can get at a decent price.

  • Traded in my Aerio after 2 MO/8K CAUTION - 2003 Suzuki Aerio
    By -

In April, I bought a 2003 Suzuki Aerio S. The low price, black interior, 145HP Engine and digital dash sold me. Now in June and after 8000 miles, I traded it in. Reasons? VERY BAD handling in windy/highway driving! Black fabric on drivers-side door trim armrest is already pealing off. Be forewarned if you do a lot of highway driving as I do. Depreciation Percentage higher than others in class.

  • Reliable but the body stinks! - 2003 Suzuki Aerio

I bought my Suzuki in 2003... OH I was in love with it and I still love this car. The gas mileage... you can really depend on this car! However you should know that the body was made very cheap. Every Suzuki I see on the road is missing the same front and back pieces on the front and back bumper... both pieces fell off on their own. Of course in 2009 I had well over 130K miles on this baby because I traveled A LOT in it so my car never had any major problems... Another thing you might want to know is if you get into an accident with the body parts being so cheap your car will most likely get totaled. I know this because someone hit my car while it was parked last Saturday and totaled it!
