  Great, little things need to be fixed - 2010 Subaru Outback

  We had a steering shimmy at 60+mph, but was fixed with dealer changing wheels/tires upon pick-up. Great all around car, but for a "Premium" trim that costs about $28000, missing too many little details. My Scion($18000) has one-touch auto up/down windows at ALL windows, the Subaru only has the drivers side. For an "outdoors" car, the door cup holders should hold a Nalgene Bottle. Throttle response in Reverse is horrible. Great off road, great seats, awesome amount of space in second row and rear cargo area. Folding cross-members are an excellent idea. the front seats are comfortable and seat heaters are quick to heat. Driving for MPG, I can get around 30-33 highway/city mix!

  Bought the new style Outback as a company vehicle after having owned 4 GL wagons over the years. What brought me back was the increase in size and just "feeling at home" when I sat in one again. I had been looking at everything from another Acura to a Venza to a Mazda to a Lexus. I dont know. It just felt right. I drove many of the models and finally decided on the 2.5 Limited. The only disappointment is my gas mileage. I have made several trips of 300 to 700 miles and have averaged anywhere from 22.5 (ave. 75-80mph) on the low side to a best of 26.5 (70-75mph). Maybe due to AWD but on my 265hp 2005 Acura TL I get 24 in city and 29-31 on hwy.

  Living in the Rockies at 9100 I was looking for a replacement for my 06 Outback XT. I wanted enough power to accelerate uphill at altitude and the supposed improved fuel economy and use of regular fuel were certainly an appeal. So I drove the 2.5i w/ CVT and found it to be almost as powerful as the turbo and when using the paddle shifters, quite fun to drive. Ive now owned it for a month and am mostly satisfied w/ a few exceptions. Build quality doesnt seem as good as previous Subys-seems like some rattles that shouldnt be there. The ride is lots more spongy and soft. Lack of temp gauge bad idea. Interior comfort is great-Im 63" and have lots of legroom-almost like a European car.

  This is a great snow car, however it developed the well documented front end shimmy almost immediately. Many of the convenience and entertainment features are quirky or poorly implemented (such as a Nav system that is horrendous and cant be read with Polarized sunglasses). Subaru finally admitted that their proposed fix to the shimmy problem would not really fix the problem, so we traded the vehicle in. Gas mileage was mid-20s in town, 30 and up on the highway. Dealership process was generally poor. A road force balance would fix the shimmy for 1000 miles or so, then it returned with a vengeance. Proposed permanent fix involved almost entire steering system rebuild.

  CVT Noise? - 2010 Subaru Outback

  Really like this car but our model has a noise that is present at low rpms and speed. It seems to disappear at higher speeds. The noise is coming from the front end engine compartment such as pulley system or CVT transmission. Similar to noise you hear from pistons/cylinders that rattle when not enough fuel octane. Dealer says its a normal noise for these models but I have not heard anyone on the site indicate a similar noise/problem. Dealer does agree that noise is louder than other models on the lot that they have tested. I personally think the noise is from the CVT transmission which is a chain drive system or combination of the smaller pulley system for this model.

  Upholstery - fabric fit and finish leaves something to be desired. 2002 legacy outback wagon was better at trade in than this is new. Loose fitting in one area "bunch" up in several areas. Mileage is good. Seats firm and comfortable. Rides well. CVT takes some getting used to - at times its seems like its not "c". Paddle shifting a fun to try. Visibility very good.

  Best bang for the buck - 2010 Subaru Outback

  We have had the car for three months and 3000 miles. Very happy with it. Also have a Lexus RX350; the Subaru is more comfortable and almost as quiet. Steering is a little numb, but comfort negates that. I love the CVT, my last Subaru would continually upshift and downshift on grades- that is obviously cured. Mileage excellent for a car this big. Subaru should have cars satellite radio ready from factory as opposed to $400 purchase-install from dealer. AM radio reception ridiculously poor.

  I took delivery with only 3 miles on the vehicle and noticed a steering vibration. My dealer encouraged me to take delivery since the tires probably needed to be broken in. Anyways, the steering vibration is worse, and to date, nobody has the solution. It forces you to use 2 hands on the wheel at all times to ensure adequate control of the vehicle. This has been reported to SOA. Now I wait to hear what is the solution. Based on internet research, this is a common problem with several new outbacks. I have less than 1,000 miles on the vehicle to date. On the positive side, this model is a great improvement in the quality of interior finish including seat comfort and extra space from the 2008

  Vibration - 2010 Subaru Outback

  I have owned my Outback about 4 months and have had a consistent vibration that starts at 60 and goes to 71. Subaru is well aware of this problem and to date, has no fix. This is not my 1st Subaru, but may be my last. Factory Customer Service is very poor. Not what I would expect. I will not wait much longer for a fix before the Lemon Law comes into play. This is not effecting all Outbacks. I would highly recommend a lengthy test drive before you take delivery.
