  • Great Car. But some issues. - 2005 Subaru Legacy
    By -

My wife and I have owned this Scoobie for 4 years next month. While we love the car and truly love Subarus this car has had some annoying issues that the dealers cant seem to fix. Our car has been in three times for an annoying rattle in the dash. It apparently disappears when the service techs look at it (rolling eyes). The front brakes squeal when the ambient temperature is above 60 outside. Ive replaced everything and they still squeak. Oh, the clutch went out at 38000. My wife and I know how to drive stick well and do not abuse the car. But this one let go at a very young age. Kudos to Subaru though for not stiffing us with the whole $1100 bill.

  • Like a 944 - 2005 Subaru Legacy

This thing is not the most powerful in straight line acceleration - but its not bad. Where this car shines is in a few areas. It handles like a 944 - with the IRS and rear wheel drive, you can set the car up. Its comfortable - the wife likes it. Its a looker. Im glad I stopped by and looked at Subaru. I was going to get a Mazda.

  • "Car of the Year?" - 2005 Subaru Legacy
    By -

This car replaced a 2003 Legacy sedan--non-turbo-charged, and is one of 3 cars and a pickup in the family. The difference between the 2003 and the new car is like night and day. The quality of the paint, the fit and finish, ride, comfort, handling, the redesigned steering, and especially the sure-footed all-wheel drive make this an incredible bargain. The Subaru logo makes it a "sleeper." Ill be surprised if it doesnt take the "car of the year" award from some magazine. The interior is well designed and the materials used, including the MOMO steering wheel, have a quality feel. Its not like any Subaru you have ever driven. This car is a true high-quality drivers car; its the real deal.

  • Best in Class Sport Wagon - 2005 Subaru Legacy
    By -

Currently the best sport wagon available for under $35k. Steering feel is basically perfect. It out-accelerates any of its competitors (and just about everything else, as well). Balance between ride and handling is superb. Interior is neat...subtly upscale with no cheap bits. Safe, reliable, and fun with no major flaws, but only 15-17 MPG in town, 20-24 pure highway. <6 second 0-60 times are valid, but the on-demand turbo acceleration requires keeping the RPMs at 3,000+, so if you dont downshift to the right gear at the right moment, youll miss that extreme power. Smooth, quiet. Plays family wagon and sports car equally well. Standard shifter is too long for sporty driving, but has a decent feel.

  • Excellent car, MT5 - 2005 Subaru Legacy

Chose it over TSX and Mazda6 5dr TSX has Nav and Stab Control, Mazda has functional and sporty hatch. But this has AWD, hood-scoop, great styling. I cant detect the handling problems mentioned in CR at the limits. (Maybe that is an Auto trans problem)

  • Amazing Car - 2005 Subaru Legacy

Picked up my Legacy GT wagon last week. Looked at a lot of wagons, Passat, Audi A4, Mazda 6. Volvo v50. Fodge Magnum. Amazed at the way Subaru pulled this car together. Staying with the GT not the limited and manual, purchased the car for 26,300. No other wagon near this price range had the performance of the GT. Passat had nice interior but was over 31,000 with 4-wheel drive. Same with the Audi and Volvo. The Magnum looked better but interior did not have same quality and with the Hemi was also over 31K. Subaru was a better handler although Mazda 6 was close and the turbo was quicker than all. Nicely done exterior and interior, car is quiet but really comes alive on a twisty road.

  • Wagon of the Year - 2005 Subaru Legacy

Had Legacy GT wagon since 6/05 and love it. Im a closet gearhead but my job has me carrying a lot of trunk stock so I needed a wagon. This has it all, speed, agility, fuel mileage, space, and cool styling (for a wagon). 14,000 miles and still happy. Wished I had gotten the sunroof.

  • SuperSportWagon! - 2005 Subaru Legacy

Awesome car; terrific bargain; tuner-ready! Needs: AWD family and fun to drive vehicle (and I AM a sports car fanatic!). Considered: Audi S4 Avant (too pricey, too unreliable); BMW 330Xi and 5 series wagons (no manual transmission, slow compared to LGT); STI (wife wouldnt ride in it; too garishly styled; bit small for ski trips with kids). LGT Limited Wagon: beautiful as is; modified (ECU tuning; uppipe, downpipe, exhaust, tires, gauges, springs) a 320 HP/360 ft/lbs torque supersports wagon! Terrific aftermarket and enthusiast community for this car. Love it all the way!

  • The New Ultimate Driving Machine - 2005 Subaru Legacy

My Legacy sneaks in to the very sporty luxury class with the name of Subaru. I never would have thought a Subaru could be this fun with luxury. I remember when the WRX came out and I told myself "They need to make something compete in the family sedan class - then Ill get one." Im car shopping, turn into the Subaru lot, and my heart is content from here. I hope Subaru always keeps its value and price where it is.

  • Great Car - 2005 Subaru Legacy

Great Car! Bought a 2005 Legacy GT Limited Wagon for my college daughter. 100,000 miles on it, but was well cared for by an adult owner. Interior looks new, and paint is flawless. Turbo engine is powerful and car is fun to drive. Built quality of a Subaru is second to none. Overall, could not be happier. Did know that at this mileage I would need to replace the timing belt/water pump/drive belts and also needs new spark plugs. Cannot complain, as this is normal maintenance items.
