In other news, all Legacys get new red burl interior trim, while ebony-patterned interior trim is available on GT models.

  • From Volvo to Subaru - 2004 Subaru Legacy

I traded my (third) Volvo for the Subaru, chiefly because of the AWD. However, I love the car. It is agile, quick, easy to drive, and much more than my Volvos, it is fun to drive. And, of course, it cost about 40% less to buy. Now I cant think of why I paid so much money for cars that really didnt please me. (Snobbery, probably.)

  • Drivers seat is uncomfortable - 2004 Subaru Legacy

We have the 35th Anniv Edition-L model. The dual sunroofs are great. I love the car..so far, so good for me. The problem is that my husband finds the front drivers seat very uncomfortable during a long ride. Weve tried different cushions, now were trying it without the cushions. There should be lumbar support. He has wide shoulders, and the bolstered seat is snug on him.Hes only 58" and the seat bothers his legs also. After driving larger cars (like Ford Taurus) the driving area does seem compact. People advise him that over time hell get used to it..well see. So in the meantime, I can do the driving and enjoy it!

  • Subaru Legacy GT Top of the Line?? - 2004 Subaru Legacy

I just bought a Subaru Legacy GT Sedan, my first new car! Overall it seems to be an excellent car. One problem: when I take it through a high powered, touchless car wash, the drivers side and passenger side windows leak! The dealer said there was nothing they could do; they took me through the car wash with another new Legacy and it also leaked. They said dont use touchless car washes. It is a design flaw I must learn to live with. Bummer, $27,000 for a car and I cant take it through the car wash! Subaru may be built to handle the winter roads, but they are not built to handle a touchless car wash!

Ive had nothing but trouble with my 04 Outback once it hit 50,000 miles. I will never buy one again and Ive owned two others.

  • Nice machine...on snow - 2004 Subaru Legacy

Very well build car. Exceptional on snowy/slushy roads. Great road drivability. Bought just several months ago but love it so far. Not too keen with the outdated design though.

  • All around great car - 2004 Subaru Legacy

This is an all around wonderful vehicle. Everyday performance is good but in rain or snow, good quickly changes to great. Nothing Ive ever driven has compared to this car. I cant see any reason why I wouldnt buy Subaru in the future.

counter the counterspin- The power on this car, especially low down and especially in the 5-speed, is terrific. I am more than happy with the engines response, from in town to highway trips, and I like to keep the SPORT in driving. The handleing on these cars is telepathic. They grip from all four corners, stay flat and remain predictable. The braking gets some complaints, but I hve seen no issues in the first 6K. Interior is handsome, seats fit well after break- in, I recommend lifting them slightly up off their lower setting, and tilting the seat relatively far back to give it a more roomy feel.

  • Love my Subie! - 2004 Subaru Legacy
    By -

Bought it used with 25k on it. Currently have 110k. Have not had any problems. Goes thru a lot of tires but I guess thats the AWD. Would like a few more horses under the hood but the 5 spd and the tight handling do make it a fun drive. Great in the snow. Id buy another one but dont want to give this up!

  • Safe, Dependable and fun - 2004 Subaru Legacy

I agree with the others that the auto trans could be better.A 5 or 6 speed would improve economy (I get 25 overall) and acceleration. Reliability wise, I have over 90,000 on it and I have had only one out of pocket repair. It is still tight as a drum. My friends Hondas and Toyotas have been more problematic, in fact they all love my subie. I think many people just dont give Subaru a look before going to Honda or Toyota. This is my third Subaru and I dont see where the others are any more reliable or better made.

  • Great driving SUV replacement - 2004 Subaru Legacy
    By -

Ive owned my 04 legacy 35th anniv wagon with 5spd manual since 2007. I bought it with 33K and it now has 58K miles. I had a Jeep Cherokee before this and it was not a good driving vehicle, nor was it good in the snow (surprisingly). I bought the legacy wagon because I wanted awd and some room in the back like an SUV, but I also know that 95% of the driving I do is on the road and I wanted a car that drives like a sports car. This car does that. I have a separate set of wheels with studded snows for the winter and when I have to drive in really bad conditions (I live in CO) I have no worries at all. Awd with manual trans and studded snows all around are great.
