After a full redesign last year, the 2009 Subaru Impreza receives a number of significant changes to the high-performance WRX model. Responding to complaints that the WRX had become too soft, Subaru firmed up the suspension for '09, and there's 41 extra horsepower for good measure. Also, the '09 WRX is only available with a manual transmission, as last year's WRX automatic is now known as the Impreza 2.5 GT. As for base Imprezas, they pick up standard four-wheel disc brakes, stability control and Subaru's incline start assist or "hill-holder" feature for the manual transmission.
- Standard all-wheel drive, roomy seating front and rear, punchy turbocharged engines, highly capable handling in WRX and WRX STI trim.
- Some increasingly common high-tech features are unavailable, outdated four-speed automatic transmission, below-average fuel economy.

rod knocking and spun a ring, at 34k miles - 2009 Subaru Impreza
By zwzachary87 - December 7 - 11:46 pmI have a 2009 Subaru Impreza sedan and it just did the same thing at 34k miles, I was getting on to the highway and my check engine light came on then traction control light and started knocking pulled over checked oil it was bone dry 3 QUARTS LOW, rod in motor started knocking car spun a ring. Subaru is warranting the motor which is a good thing but i am a little worried about how they are talking about fixing my motor eater they will replace the bad parts with new, or they will order a short block for my car and i have a problem with those options because of the fact of you are taking your heads off the motor that has been damaged and putting them on the new short block well i have a problem with this because what is to say the heads were not damaged from not being lubricated and foreign material from shavings in the motor. i have my oil changed every 7500 miles because i run fully synthetic oil and i only have the dealer work on my car. 0n 2/3/12/ car had 29800k miles on it when i had the oil changed and transmission serviced, on 3/15/12 car had 34000k miles on it when it chose to break down and i checked my oil 2 1/2 weeks ago and it was full car has not been tampered with at all please if this has happened to anyone i would really like to know

My first Subaru - 2009 Subaru Impreza
By JohnPublic - November 14 - 2:20 pmI have been a loyal Honda fan for years but when looking around for a car to replace my beloved 1998 Acura Integra found the Honda spaceship interior horrible. I test drove the Subie Impreza and found an interior that was very comfortable and functional for a 200# 6ft 3in guy (my head doesnt hit the ceiling and my legs have room). I was also impressed with the horsepower and torque (something even the Si doesnt have). So, this formerly loyal Honda guy bought an Impreza 5-door hatch and love it!

Excellent Car! - 2009 Subaru Impreza
By Tony - May 18 - 12:46 amHave not owned the car long but I am incredibly happy with it and surprised about several things with the Impreza. Even without the added power of the WRX or STI version, plenty of pickup on the freeway. And even though Edmunds has listed 22 mpg, I do a lot of freeway driving and have been getting more like 29 mpg. That was a pleasant surprise! Highly recommend Subaru to those that are thinking of buying one.

Great Car! I LOVE IT! - 2009 Subaru Impreza
By Lindsay - May 8 - 10:00 amI drive 100 miles round trip per day in my car for work. I absolutely love this car! Its great on gas, controls are extremely convenient, its fast. The only reason I gave this car a 9 for interior design are two reasons. I dislike the color of the seats because they are too light for my taste. I wear jeans a lot. none are new and my seats have a blue tint from getting in and out. The other reason is the the stereo area has worn a little above the AUX button... not sure why, but it seems the rubber coating is peeling a bit. I love that you can put it to manual when it snows. I feel like I have complete control over the car. I highly recommend it to anyone!

Four days old and loving it - 2009 Subaru Impreza

After almost one year, the realization that the legacy sedan doesnt meet my family needs as the wagon we previously owned did. The 2007 legacy is an outstanding vehicle and it was painful to trade it in, but now I have the 2009 Impreza Outback Wagon and I dont regret the trade in the slightest. In the 2009 Impreza Outback Wagon, the driver visibility is much better. The seats are firmer and more comfortable, providing support where its needed. The controls are wonderfully placed so that you need not take your eyes off the road. And to my surprise, the ride is smoother and more responsive. Im completely satisfaction beyond expectation.

A/C stinks - 2009 Subaru Impreza
By pompus1 - August 31 - 9:50 pmWas told by dealer the a/c cycles cold to warm so it wont freeze up! I have owned a lot of cars domestic and import and I never had this problem before. Where I live the summer temps run 95-110 June to October. Because of this I would not recommend or buy another Subaru.

I love my subie. - 2009 Subaru Impreza
By Paul88 - June 12 - 11:33 pmI love my subie. This car handles smoothly as well as aggressively whenever you need. I test drove an BMW 328, Mercedes C300, Honda accord V6 and Mazda speed 3. Besides this car, maybe only BMW is in my consideration. I nail myself on this car according to the performance and never regret. The fuel economy is better than I expect. I am still in the run in period and mixed city/hwy mileage is around 25-27 mpg. I highly recommend this vehicle without hesitation.

My Suby - 2009 Subaru Impreza
By pea619 - May 25 - 4:50 amThis is the greatest car I have purchased thus far. It is my 4th Subaru, I presently also have a 2006 325i, which I love, but this car is even better than it. It really has everything you could want - AWD, traction control and stability control(in the base model). What other car can give you all that and still be adorable, affordable and have the "cars that drive great after 300000 miles" Subaru name.

My first AWD - 2009 Subaru Impreza
By kiana408 - February 9 - 5:53 amI love this car! I really needed an AWD for Tahoe and couldnt stand another season of having to chain up in the snow. After researching AWD Vehicles, Trucks and 4WD SUVs, this appeared to be the best choice for me, someone whos always driven a fuel efficient Honda Civic. It handles great! I drove it through the Sierra Nevadas then the Santa Cruz Mountains all in my first weekend. Smooth clutch, super stable around corners and sharp turns. Nice look, comfy and roomy inside. My first and foremost concern when purchasing a new car was safety for me and my child. I feel very safe in my new car, so happy with my purchase!

09 Impreza 2.5i Hatch - 2009 Subaru Impreza
By ricky0018 - January 23 - 10:56 amPerformance-enough to keep me satisfied. Styling-nothing too dramatic but it does stand out. Interior-6 200lbs guy here, more than comfortable. Quality-right materials used in all the right places. MPGs-runs on 87 octane and averages 27-28 city, cant complain! Havent hit the highway yet.
