This Year's Model Updates:

Saturn has upgraded the Ion with new fabrics, improved plastics and a new radio with MP3 and satellite radio capability. The electric steering has been revised for improved feel at highway speeds, while the sedan's five-speed automatic and the coupe's CVT have been recalibrated for improved gear selection and response. Finally, Saturn has installed additional sound-deadening material to reduce cabin noise. A Special Edition version of the sedan provides black exterior paint, distinctive 16-inch wheels and a two-tone interior.

This care has been great to drive. Its rare to find a six second car with grocery-getter gas mileage. Unsure about annual gas mileage...sorry.

I always thought a supercharged 4 cylinder would be cool but nobody made one at an affordable price point. I saw one of the few advertisements for the Red Line and thought it would be cool. I found a demo model at 20% discount but I wasnt sold until I drove it. Most low end power Ive ever seen in a 4 banger. I was driving in 4th gear in a 25 zone and it wasnt lugging. They let me take it home for the weekend and I put 500 miles on it. I didnt want to give it back to get prepped. Stage 2 modifications made it even meaner. I drive it hard but store it through the winter. I have had no problems with it.

We just traded our 2004 ION 1 in for a 2006 VUE. The ION was a great car and served our family of five well. We got up to 40 mpg on the freeway and were able to fit three car seats in the back and a double stroller in the trunk. Ours was an automatic and had plenty of punch to it when needed. Overall a great car which will be missed.

The car is fun to drive. Great get up and go!! Ricaro seats! Beautiful wheels. Stiff suspension, amazing ahndling and cornering. The value for dollar is unbeatable! Love the doors on both sides. Mp3 Player is nice to have.

  • Best Coupe in its Class - 2004 Saturn ION

Exterior styling is excellent. Interior seating postion is great. By moving the gauges to the center and reducing the diameter of the steering wheel there is more room for tall drivers. Center armrest is larger than normal for this class of vehicle and slides forward. Engine is strong and CVT transmission is smooth and efficent. Very large trunk. Easy access to the rear seats.

Bought the car so I dont have to worry, I have been at the dealer 8 times besides oil changes. They cant figure out what is wrong with my brakes. Other than that car is fun to drive, the 5 speed manual is pretty fast.

I dont get the attitude in the reviews Ive read. Yes, there are better subcompacts. Theyre priced higher and their dealers have an attitude to boot - which means even more cost to you. This car delivers all the essentials: great pickup, tight handling, good view of the road, interesting styling. I dont just like, I love the center console. Yeah, its different. Get over it, its also better - the shift to view the guages is lateral, and it never feels like youre taking your eyes off the road by looking down. I got this car at 2.9%, and Im paying 190/month. I bought it hassle-free in one day. Try that at Honda.

  • Good Commuter Car - 2004 Saturn ION

Bought for my 68 mile a day commute to work. Great gas mileage, fill it up once a week. Good reliability, bought with just over 48,000 miles on it and had to change the bushings (Which i knew when I bought it) havent had to fix anything until about 90,000 miles when I replaced the rear shocks and new tires and brake pads. Cost about $450 bucks. Is all paid for and will run it into the ground. I love the 2.2 liter Ecotech engine. The center console where the gauges are is awesome. It has served its purpose admirably. Not a great car for a family cause there is little leg room in the back but as a commuter car I couldnt have asked for anything better for the money.

I love the car. I bought it knowing it was not a "Diet BMW." If you want a great car that performs well and wont break the bank, this is DEFINATELY the car for you. Also: I have owned 5 new cars and my experience at the Saturn dealership was the best by far.
