This Year's Model Updates:

Nissan's popular Xterra SUV receives a variety of updates for the 2002 model year. Front-end styling is updated, and the bulged hood hides a newly optional supercharged V6. Inside, there are revised gauges, seat fabrics, climate controls, two additional power points and a bigger glovebox. Also standard are dual-stage front airbags, rear child-seat anchors, variable intermittent front windshield wipers, a rear window wiper and a foot-operated parking brake. In terms of options, a new in-dash six-disc CD changer is available on XE Xterras and standard on SE models. Nissan has also made the sunroof optional instead of standard. Finally, as a tribute to dedicated Xterra owners, an Enthusiast Package is available only on XE V6 four-wheel-drive models. It includes ceiling tie clamps, a first aid kit, a tilt steering wheel, foglights, front tow hooks, map lights, a limited-slip differential, manually locking hubs and rubber floor mats.

Pros:
  • Rugged looks and the off-road capability to match, lots of room inside.
Cons:
  • Uncomfortable front seats, poor on-road ride and steering, four-cylinder and normally aspirated V6 lack power.

  • Best Nissan I ever owned! - 2002 Nissan Xterra

Ive had the X for 4 years now and couldnt be more pleased with it. The seats are very comfortable on long drives. The Supercharger gives it enough oomph to push you back in your seat. The paint has held up extremely well. People who have driven it are surprised on how nice it handles and how straight it drives. It is a bit rough, but what do you expect? I havent had any problems mechanically. I replaced the stock stereo with aftermarket since stock sounds, well, stock! I take it in for service religiously and the service dept is always surprised how clean and new it still looks. I detail it A LOT! Just like they say, "everything you need, nothing you dont!"

Purchased my Xterra in the summer of 01. It has been a reliable and durable truck. Its suffered the scorching summers of Phoenix, Az and the freezing winters of the Rocky Mountains in Colorado and has never left us stranded. All parts still work. With regular maintenance itll last forever. At 110K still runs strong no big repairs except for a high hose leak in the air conditioner, the power steering pump leaks but was fixed with a $10 additive and the rear main seal (common amongst Nissan trucks) is leaking oil but was fixed with another $10 additive I picked up. Overall been a fantastic vehicle. You can always depend on your Xterra

  • No Lemons Here - 2002 Nissan Xterra

At least, not from the beautifully designed Nissan Xterra that I purchased last year. I only wish I could say the same for the dealership that I bought it from. I financed the truck in June 2004 from I am still having problems with my dealership today. After my monthly payment being raised three times and the harrassing phone calls at work for more money I was almost fed up enough to just give up. All it takes though is a short drive in Xterra and the world is a much brighter and more exciting place. So I urge yall to proceed w/caution when it comes to Nissan dealers.

  • Just bought - 2002 Nissan Xterra

I just bought a used 2002 Xterra and I love it. I traded in my 99 Jeep Sahara, and although I miss the open top, the feel and look makes me miss the jeep a little less. It certainly drives smoother, and the stick is easier to manage. Factory sounds system is a heck of a lot better too.

  • Xterra, safe, reliable TRUCK - 2002 Nissan Xterra

As with many trucks the consideration of height and roll over has to be considered. I gave the Xterra the hard test and it passed as well as did well in ratings. Driver error, drivers thinking they have a MAC truck to push others around and maneuver in traffic like a Miata ISNT the Xterra. Drive carefully and youre fine! Having said that, the Xterra is awesome....DONT BUY A MAZDA TRIBUTE, I OWNED A 2001 LEMON LAW JUNK.

  • Great choice - 2002 Nissan Xterra

I bought this vehicule several months ago and have been extremely happy with it so far. Before the purchase I spent about 3 months doing some pretty extensive shopping around. In the end, I bought it for several reasons: A high reliability rating by consumers and magazines alike, its ability to tow heavy loads, its flexibility in use (large cargo area and seating area, and because I found it to be one of the nicer looking mini SUVs on the market.) I get constant positive feedback on its looks, ride (despite it is based on a truck platform) and flexibility of use.

  • The X-terraThe Ultimate Off-Road Vehicle - 2002 Nissan Xterra

  • Fun Truck - 2002 Nissan Xterra

I love my Xterra but it is a truck as far as Im concerned. Slips on ice and snow but I think that would be better with more weight in the back as you would do with a pick-up truck. The 4WD gets me through anything the South Dakota weather can throw my way. Not really a good family vehicle because its too tall for small kids to get in and out of and I find myself missing a 3rd row of seats in order to carry their freinds around in.

  • OVERPRICED - 2002 Nissan Xterra
    By -

THIS VEHICLE IS VERY OVERPRICED. IT IS 24 GRAND AND DOESNT EVEN HAVE MIRRORS ON THE BACK SIDE OF VISOR. IT ALSO RIDES LIKE A LOG TRUCK. VERY ROUGH. THIS VEHICLE MIGHT BE WORTH 19 OR 20 GRAND. VERY DISAPPOINTED.
