This Year's Model Updates:

Improved manual transmission shift feel (thanks to a shorter shift stroke), black-tone brake calipers, additional chrome accents inside and new softer leather upholstery. Auto-dimming outside mirrors are now available, and a new 12-volt power point resides at the base of the center stack.

Pros:
  • Roomy interior, lots of upscale options, sweet V6, available with a manual transmission.
Cons:
  • So-so center stack ergonomics, premium price without the premium nameplate.

  • Awesome performance - 2005 Nissan Maxima

I was amazed of the performance and pleasantly surprised with the fuel economy. The ride is a little harsh on the rough wintery roads of New England but I am happy to sacrafice the ride for the handling. So far I love it.

This is a really fun car to drive. The power that is available when wanted/needed is exhilarating; the responsiveness is incredible. The exterior has a speedy "swept back" look; the cockpit is futuristic and the interior is very roomy. Nice touches like heated seats and steering wheel, auto dimming mirrors inside and out, accessible 12v outlets, etc, add to the enjoyment. The only drawback with the car is that it is front wheel drive. With the HP available, when one really steps on the gas there is a noticable "torque steer" that is very disconcerting at times. Some may not like the audio and HVAC controls in the center stack as the buttons are numerous and small but theyll grow on you.

Got it brand new in 05, it runs great extremely quick and very fast and the handling is awesome. Had to replace the struts once but was under warranty so there was no problem there. there is a lot of room in the back and front seats so you can fit 5 people easily even with the front seats all the way back. i would recommend the NISMo air intake adds about 15HP and you can really feel the difference. AWESOME car!

  • Love my Maxima - 2005 Nissan Maxima

I have been purchasing a new car every three years with most being "upscale" sedans. My most recent car was a Volvo S-80 T-6 and this Maxima surpasses it in every category and costs $10,000 less. The normally aspirated Maxima is just as fast as the Volvo turbo. The looks are great and it has provided trouble free performance. Most of all, I love driving it. The only negative I can think of is that the turning ratio is is a bit too wide.

  • My "Mid life Crisis" purchase - 2005 Nissan Maxima

My 2005 Maxima SL is one sweet ride. Having just turned 40, and much desiring to dump the mini-van and associated stereotypes, I was thrilled to find a sedan that is roomy, with deluxe accomodations and that has plenty of "giddyup". From the premium Bose sound system to the heated steering wheel to the power moon roof to the programmable heated leather seats, this car is everything Id been searching for. It drives like a dream- -takes off like a shot when you need or want it to and behaves well otherwise. I did my homework and compared and test drove other sedans in this price range before buying and the Nissan rode more quietly and offered better options. I love this car!!!

Im 64 years old and have owned many vehicles in my life including a 1988 Nissa 300 Z . Very glad I went back to Nissan. This particlur car is first of all, absolutly georgous looking and the performance is supburb. The fit and finish is also supburb. I just love this vehicle. I would recommend this car to anyone especially what you get for the price. The list was 32,000. Incrediably low for the type of performance I feel. A friend of mine who owns a BMW drove it and said "I cant believe I like the handling of this car better than mine." THat tells it all

  • My opinion of this vehicle. - 2005 Nissan Maxima

This car handles well on the road in all types of weather. Both the exterior and interior look nice; the interior has some nice features to it. It has good gas mileage. I get between 25 and 27 miles per gallon when I drive this car. There is plenty of room for items in the trunk, and it has a good size consoul. Overall, this is a nice car for the money.

Having narrowed my search to the Maxima, Avalon, and Accord, I settled for the Maxima primarily because of ease of negotiating with the dealer. Now that Ive driven the Maxima for the past four weeks, I have only one real complaint. A deafening pecking noise began under the dash below the steering wheel. Talked with the service dept and if you have a similar problem, turn on the defroster and it should stop. It turned out to be coming from the heat/cooling system. A part will have to be replaced that controls the doors within the unit. Had same problem with my 2004 Chev truck (but it wasnt as loud).

  • Great car! - 2005 Nissan Maxima

This is my third Nissan and my first Maxima. My previous car was a 96 Altima and I decided it was time to upgrade. I really like the Maxima! Its a pleasure to drive and quite luxurious for the price. A lot of pick- up and an amazingly quiet drive. I looked at the Acura TL and that was slightly more luxurious, but not worth the extra $3,000 they wanted. I was also very pleased with the dealer (Nissan City in Port Chester NY); no b.s. and very little sales smarminess.

  • Third Maxima for me - 2005 Nissan Maxima

The 2005 Maxima is my third, and its the best of the three so far (1998 GXE, 2001 SE 20th Ann, 2005 SE 5A). The good: Roomy, comfortable, quick off the line, decent gas mileage, awesome sound system, dont need to take a headroom-eliminating sunroof, very quiet ride. The bad: its slippy in the snow - snow tires seem to be required and that means great expense, back seat not great for tall friends due to roof slope.
