Overview & Reviews
The Maxima has been fully redesigned for 2004. It now rides on the same underpinnings as the well-received Nissan Altima. This year's Maxima is longer, wider and more powerful than the previous version.
- Roomy interior, lots of upscale options, sweet V6, available with a manual transmission.
- Some small, oddly arranged controls.

2004 Nissan Maxima - Fun To Drive - 2004 Nissan Maxima
By ssdepetris - April 3 - 10:00 amThe 2004 Maxima is an excellant compromise between fun-to-drive, performance, and usefulness. The Elite version has every possible feature I have ever wanted, from power folding side mirrors to an informative display screen that handles sound, climate and navigation issues. The 6-speed has excellent acceleration. And, finally, the 4-doors and large trunk means the car is still good for hauling people and things.

3rd Nissan Auto-Best yet! - 2004 Nissan Maxima
By BobbyP - March 29 - 10:00 amTraded in a 97 Maxima for this Silver SE. This is my 3rd Nissan car...one Altima and 2nd Max. 200,000 miles combined, and never a single problem. My only trouble was deciding between the Max and the Murano, which my family wanted. Love the power and styling of the Max...been stopped by 3 people this week inquiring about the car. Looked at Acuras, Toyota, and Honda. No real comparison. Also, real $ value with Nissan. Didnt need or want a lot of options, so the price was very competitive.

WHAT A CAR - 2004 Nissan Maxima
By Mikenoc - March 6 - 10:00 amwhen I heard the new release of the maxima I was in aw. I have been a long time nissan lover since my 92 nissan maxima which i traded in for a 2002 altima but when i heard of the maximas new release I was ready to trade in my altima. I waited of course until this year and did just that. My black SL with the 5 speed automatic not the 4 as in the early year productions really blows my mind. This car has power and style. I was in the market for a new car and it was teetering between the maxima and its sister car the Infiniti I35 but I am very glad I went with the Maxima. It is truley a work of art inside and out!

None can compare - 2004 Nissan Maxima
By MaxMan04 - February 14 - 10:00 amThe 2004 Nissan Maxima SE (5AT) is perhaps the finest sports/luxury sedan ever built. I have always been a huge fan of Maximas since the 1990s and this most recent design is inside and out, Nissans best effort. I find it funny that this site compares it to the Honda Accord and the VW Passat. As if comparing it to the sluggish and horrible-performing Toyota Avalon wasnt enough, the Acoord & the Passat, although priced in the same ballpark, are not even close to being in the same class of vehicle. The Maxima handles better than any vehicle in its class, including the Acura Type-S, and has a bold, new styling that cannot be beaten.

Excellent buy except.... - 2004 Nissan Maxima
By sailen - February 8 - 2:00 amExcellent in every aspect except I have an "starter" problem. At least a couple of times in a day, I need to start it several times before it starts. I purchased it new with 7 miles on the odometer. My dealer has confirmed the problem and we are waiting to hear back from Nissan.

04 Maxima - WOW! - 2004 Nissan Maxima
By DrJ - December 27 - 2:00 amThe Maxima is an exceptional car and a has a real WOW! factor. The SL ride is significantly better than that of the SE, and compares to many luxury cars. For its actual dimensions, it has good interior and trunk space. The driver preferred option package for only $700 adds loads of handy features, like power tilt/ telescoping heated steering wheel, and heated memory seats. Overall, the 04 Maxima is a real winner.
