This Year's Model Updates:

There are only minor changes to this Nissan truck for 2006. A power package with keyless entry, cruise control and power windows, locks and mirrors is available for the King Cab XE, and NISMO and LE models now have chrome accents on the gauge cluster and air vents. Additionally, manual transmission-equipped NISMO models have a new shift knob for 2006.

Pros:
  • Powerful V6 engine, roomy interior, innovative bed features, stout frame and advanced off-road systems provide excellent capability in the dirt.
Cons:
  • No regular-cab body style available, too much hard plastic inside, choppy ride on pavement.

Based upon independent research and test driving all the trucks that are in the price and mid-size range, I feel that Nissan stands slightly above the Toyota Tocoma in performance and off road abilities. Nissan needs to continue their efforts to improve their weight to horsepower performance ratio. Toyota is a fierce competitor with an enormous funding base. If Nissan develops an engine for their Frontier that puts out 300 horsepower (stock) I Would buy it tomorrow.

Just bought it this last week and love it. It has a lot of get up and go. Very roomy for a King cab and feels very tough. It has all the features I wanted and it didnt break the bank. I compared the Toy and GMC and was not impressed with the option packs or the add on pricing for both of them.

Great truck to drive. Ive had to take 2 trips back east and it performed great. 20 mpg on first trip and 21 on the second. Loaded with furniture on second trip. mpg has improved over time, now have 5500 miles on it. Tows great. Has room for 4 adults. I like the ride better then my wifes cadillac (2000 deville).

After researching many trucks bought the 2006 KC 4WD Nismo automatic with traction control and upgraded sound. Great looking truck with excellent performance and features. This is the third Nissan truck; previous two served well past 200K before being sold. Unfortunately to get the upgraded sound system the utility bed packaged is forced on you. Since installing a shell on the truck, the rails are totally useless.

Bought my 2006 Nissan Frontier LE Crew Cab in Sep 2006 new from the dealership. As soon as I test drove it, I bought it. I love the look of the roof rack (looks like the Xtera) The utilitrack bed system is awesome! I have hauled so much stuff in this truck. I added a Flow Master 40, and an AFE Cold Air Intake. Wow! What a difference. Much better sound, better power. MPG city went to about 18, hwy went to around 24. The only thing I dont like is the legroom. Im tall, so its difficult to find anything that has decent legroom. The adjustable seats are great, and very comfortable. Unless you are a general contractor or living on a farm, there is no need for a truck any bigger than this.

Have driven exclusively Nissan Cars and Trucks since 1987, as have my 2 sons. Never had any problems with them. This 4.0 6 speed has awesome power and load capacities. I was driving 25 miles to work on rural roads and getting 24 mpg at 60-70 mph. Now retired and drive in town, and still get 22 mpg. 2 hints for mileage, drive easily when you accelerate and use a good grade of gas. I was getting 20 mpg using a discount gas, but switched to shell and get steady 22+, using regular.

  • Best "Mid-Size" Truck - 2006 Nissan Frontier

I traded a 2003 Ford Ranger FX4 Level II for my 2006 NISMO Crew Cab 4x4. The Ranger was a decent truck but it got horrid gas mileage (avg about 14 with 80/20 city/highway). I love my NISMO so much more than the Ranger. Its a little bigger but its more powerful, has a better ride, and handles way smoother. It also feels much more solid than the Ranger. I have to watch my driving because the truck wants to go fast! I can definitely feel sports car roots in the truck. The engine is smooth and refined and well matched to the 5- speed automatic. Fuel economy is around 16 in town and I get a solid 20 on the highway. The truck is a pleasure to drive.

This is my first NEW truck! I love Nissan. The way it drives, the security I feel when Im driving it. This is my daily driver, and I dont mind putting miles on it. (OK mileage, and fun to drive). To and from work, and use it on the weekends to go places with the family. I love the fact that I can use it as a truck, or family vehicle. Work and play. Nice... Definitely a KEEPER!!!
