This Year's Model Updates:

For their second season in the U.S. market, the 2003 Mini Cooper and Cooper S will now come with a second remote key and pre-wiring for a dealer-installed alarm system. Anthracite (smoke gray, that is) interior trim is available as a no-cost option for both cars, and the Cooper S is eligible for the high-gloss silver interior treatment found in the base Cooper. Sound systems will be satellite radio-ready this year, and the rear cargo area now has a power point.

Pros:
  • The thrill of owning a piece of history with modern underpinnings, BMW-engineered suspension and steering, chock full of comfort and safety features, hatchback utility, scheduled maintenance on-the-house for 3 years/36,000 miles.
Cons:
  • Not enough horsepower in base model, questionable seat comfort, not much room for passengers and cargo, price goes up quickly with options, limited supply encourages dealer mark-up.

I bought an "S" model loaded for just $20,900, tax free. Great looks, draws lots of attention. Interior design is gorgeous, fit and finisf are great, but some plastics look too cheap. Engine is weak in the low range, but once you pass 4000rpms, then you get all the power. It reminds me of my Civic VTEC. ( and this is weird for a supercharged engine, though). Anyways, the car drives like a go-kart, and that is the main reason why I bought it. Ride is harsh, but not as I expected. Got it in silver with a black top. This will be in the future my second car. Im already saving for a 350Z.

I had studied the car for almost a year before getting it. Ive now had mine for a month. Most of the production kinks have been worked out, and the car is something else. Its real fun to drive, an eyecatcher, and very comfortable. The dual sunroof feature makes the car extra roomie inside, while the on steering radio controls let you enjoy driving the car.

When I drove to work (an elementary school) the first day I bought Earnest (my Mini), one of the other teachers looked at me and said, "You, Mr. Abney, are hopelessy trendy." Smiling, I said, "Thanks!" I traded in an Audi TT Convertible for this car and, though reducing a whole lot of monthly payment, Ive actually increased my coolness factor driving around. And, considering it has one of the lowest True Cost To Owns on Edmunds, I think its an amazing value, even though I ended up paying 1500 over MSRP.

This is a wonderful car. It is an absolute blast. It is truly the re- birth of one of the great iconic cars of all time. It has so much more character and personality than most cars on the market. I have had people honk their horns, wave like maniacs and give the thumbs up in traffic. It is hands-down the best car I have ever owned.

The good news is its a cute car that gets a lot of attention with adequate performance and good MPG. On the downside, if you have feet bigger than size 11 your toe may hit the clutch lever while your heel drags on the floormat--enough to throw you off & stall it. With just 1600 cc it doesnt have much torque. They could easily get another 15 horsepower from this powerplant, and it could use it especially at higher altitudes. Other annoying items: the one-touch down windows are an ass pain, the sport seats are harder to get in and out of, the plastic trim is easily damaged and looks pretty low rent, the mirror control button is easy to damage because of its lo

The car is fun and great to drive. But it broke down, died, twice. The first time something was loose and the car would not start after I turned it off to get gas. I had to get towed. The second time, about one month later, the cooling fan would not go off, it drained the battery and the car was stuck in my garage, had to be towed again. Last time we didnt have the car for five days, now its been two days so far. I dont know if this car is a lemon or if it happens to all Minis.

its a fun ride--quite exhilarating. i love the engine sound--very powerful despite being a 4-cylinder. in the beginning, the car was quite shaky..but after a few miles on the road..it got better. i love to ride it--showing it off to my friends. even though it is a small car, it seems to have a lot of power. i can actually park this car in ease--anywhere..very nice car! most of all, i like it cuz it resembles so much of me..very unique.
