Overview & Reviews
For 2003, there is more power for the S55 and S600 models, both of which now put out nearly 500 horsepower. Also Pre-Safe, a system that detects an imminent impact and quickly adjusts seating positions as well as seatbelt tension to better safeguard the occupants, debuts. Mercedes' 4Matic all-wheel-drive system becomes available on the S430 and S500 and a minor freshening inside and out are meant to keep these big Benzes near the top of luxury car buyer's shopping lists.
- World-class performance, state-of-the-art safety features, spacious and comfortable cabin.
- Complicated COMAND system, standard V8 models not as much fun to drive as BMW 7 Series.

Superb Luxury Car - Feel like a King! - 2003 Mercedes-Benz S-Class
By Dr. Warren Bruhl - April 5 - 3:00 pmI recently purchased this 2003 Mercedes S430 with 4matic and I was pleasantly surprised how well it handles the harsh winter snows with ample reliability and confidence. The luxury interior is wonderful and it garners great respect even from my 14 year old daughter. I love the way it feels to drive this car and I have been pleasantly surprised by the gas mileage. Driving this car makes me feel secure and confident. It is a truly an executive car driving experience.

The pride of owning a 2003 MB S500 - 2003 Mercedes-Benz S-Class
By cherylrix - March 29 - 10:00 amThis is hands-down the best & classiest auto built. I can tell you the looks that I get while driving this car are amazing! Valet always seems to run to park my car first! They all love the chance to drive this beauty! I have put more than 10k miles on it in 4 months because I love to drive it! Handles curves in the rain with no problem.

Dream Car (almost) - 2003 Mercedes-Benz S-Class
By EZ MIKE 420 - December 31 - 10:00 amI have loved my S55 for 5 years! Perfect combo of ultra-luxury and high-end performance. I was lucky to get the car with a Starmark warranty, which covers the car for 7 yrs/100K miles - The car has had close to $10K in warranty work since the standard warranty expired. This is a VERY expensive car to maintain - the AMG parts are much more expensive than the S500 parts and many dealership service departments dont have the know-how to fix these cars properly. I found a dealership that kept mine running quite well. I will probably sell mine before the warranty expires to avoid the high cost of maintenance. It will be a sad day when I hand off the keys. Its been a GREAT car!

Sleek, powerful, problematic - 2003 Mercedes-Benz S-Class
By Lawman - July 28 - 12:33 pmThis is my 5th Benz, but first S-class. The car is beautifully designed and well-appointed. Handling is excellent, comfort is superb. It is one of the greatest highway touring machines ever made. At the same time, there have been irksome quality issues. I have had the car about one year, and in that time have endured five major (and costly) problems. A sensor malfunctioned in the trunk, effectively immobilizing the car. The gear shift assembly jammed in park and had to be replaced. The air seal struts developed a leak and had to be sealed. The V-belt broke during a highway drive, lost all power and the engine promptly overheated. Disappointing. Fuel economy is good, 26 highway.

Best in Class - 2003 Mercedes-Benz S-Class
By smherlin - May 2 - 2:00 amI was a previous E320 and a short lived 03 E500 owner. After being disappointed with the size of the E500 I traded up to the S430. I am pleased with the restyle and love the interior.

loving the ride...fingers crossed - 2003 Mercedes-Benz S-Class
By clozer - March 15 - 2:00 amIve had the car for 3 weeks. It handles GREAT! and the ride is magnificent . Im having a ball using all of the great gizmos (most cabin functions are voice controlled, Keyless go, fully electronic trunk, and much more) Command is not nearly so difficult as the writers say you learn it in a few days. The 4matic, ESP and brake assist already got me out of what could have been a bad skid. My only concern is the occassional bad story of something going wrong with all of that technology, but Im loving the car too much to really think about it. I guess that is what extended warrantys are for
