This Year's Model Updates:

Mazda's four-door sports car was all new in 2004, and is back for 2005 with no changes except for the addition of a satellite radio-compatible head unit.

Pros:
  • Low base price, agile handling yet still comfortable enough for daily use, smooth rotary engine fun to wind out on the open road, room for four in a pinch.
Cons:
  • Option packages add considerable expense, iffy interior ergonomics, poor gas mileage.

When I bought it, I wrote here that it was an exercise in engineering theory and perfection, but not practical due to low fuel efficiency vs. high fuel costs. Well, 20K miles later, Im still infatuated with it, wouldnt think of driving anything else, and have gotten used to its MPG after an 05 Mustang driver told me he gets the same 15 mpg I do. Id MUCH rather have this than a Mustang!! I admit that 15 mph is around town and short highway runs, usually doing 100 mph+ to and from work, so of course its going to suck the gas. But the handling of this thing !! :) And the sound system cant be beat. And its still the most gorgeous thing on the road if you ask me.

  • I love my Rx-8 - 2005 Mazda RX-8

I love this car!!! I have wanted one since they came out (when I was 11) because my grandma had a yellow Rx-7 when I was little, and I missed it. It drives great, though loud, I love that. You have to use the best quality EVERYTHING!!! I cant stress that more. I live in the hills and it is fun to drive on the curves. I just bought it a month ago as my first car...LOL :)

Amazing. Took a while, but I finally tracked down a Titanium Grey with Red/Black interior. As far as I know, this was the only one for sale in Texas at the time. Means I get a unique vehicle. Have had many comment on how sharp it looks. Living in the Hill Country (Windy roads up and down hills is the norm), I truly believe this car was built just for my area. You have read it all, performance, comfort, everything. I cant think of a single thing I dont like. Well, here is my biggest complaint. Would be nice if the 6 disk CD changer played random accross all disks, not just 1. So there you have it. :-).

  • Phenomenal Handling - Sport Room for 4 - 2005 Mazda RX-8
    By -

I have a Velocity Red, Auto w/ Sports pkg., own just over 1 week. During this time I have driven over 650 miles. This included a weekend trip to the beach. The ride is fantastic; acceleration good, comfortable and a responsive ride that is phenomenal. Zoom-Zoom! Head turning to say the least. The interior is comfortable and the cockpit seating is a plus. The kids love the car and there is room for all four of us. Storage space is fine for this type of car. Standard front air bags, side curtain air bags, along w/ side air bags for the front seats. ABS braking and with the sport package added stability control w/ traction control. State Farm considers it a 4 door sedan for insurance purpose.

  • Great RX-8! - 2005 Mazda RX-8
    By -

I wanted an RX-8 since I first saw it at the auto show. I finally got my RX-8 last December. This car is great and soooo much fun to drive. I get about 20 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway. My only big complaint is with the 18" Bridgestone tires. I only have 11K miles on the car, but they are already worn uneven due to how soft they are. It looks like Ill have to replace them soon. Otherwise, the car is excellent and Id highly recommend it to anyone looking to get a little zoom, zoom, zoom!

Ilove this car. It is a blast to drive and I can take my kids to school in it. It attracts attention everywhere I go. People who are not "into" cars stare at it and ask what it is and Gearheads want to talk about the rotary engine. I was going to buy a 3 series BMW but EVERYONE has one of those. The RX8 is cheaper and a lot more fun. If you want a car that you look forward to driving everyday and dont want to get lost in the parking lot, this is it.

  • RX-8, Most fun car for the money - 2005 Mazda RX-8
    By -

I have been a fan of the old RX-7s since my youth so as soon as the divorce was final; it was time to trade in the Tundra for a loaded RX-8. I have owned many vehicles and this one by far takes the cake. I have never driven a more fun peppy car in all my days. The way it takes corners and accelerates on to the highways is a thing of beauty. The 9000 RPM redline is a dream and going over 80 miles an hour in 3rd is quite a feat.

  • Oh Shinka! - 2005 Mazda RX-8
    By -

My Shinka is hot! Been on numerous tri-state road trips and the fun quotient cannot be matched. Unique looks of the Shinka garner a lot of admiration even from fellow RX-8 owners. Has passed all recall tests with flying colors. Similar bugs already mentioned but overall an awesome, sexy yet functional car. Only cons - light colored leather and the gas mileage.

  • Best RX Yet - 2005 Mazda RX-8
    By -

Ive owned two earlier editions of the RX7. The RX8 has to win the title of the "Most Fun to Drive." There is no car Ive driven at less than twice the price thats so agile. Its like a four wheeled motorcycle. Somehow Mazda developed a suspension that is comfortable for cruising yet delivers real "seat of the pants" handling and road feel. Its like nothing else on the road. Only negatives: surprisingly poor gas mileage and trunk which is really an auxilliary glove compartment. (Throw your luggage in the back seat.)
