This Year's Model Updates:

The RX-8 is an all-new car for 2004. Its arrival marks the return of Mazda's rotary engine to the U.S. market. Priced less than Nissan's 350Z, the RX-8 also offers four doors and a usable backseat.

Pros:
  • Low base price, agile handling yet still comfortable enough for daily use, room for four in a pinch.
Cons:
  • Option packages can get expensive, iffy interior ergonomics.

I loved my RX8 when I bought it. 2 weeks after purchase I had to replace the purge valve. 1 month later replaced the ignition coils and wires. 1 week later check engine light came on. Had to replace the engine. Recall for oil dipstick allowing water in oil. Guess what, Ive got water and metal shavings in my oil. I see engine #2 coming up. All this in only 6 months! Extended warranty highly recommended for this vehicle. Love driving it when it runs! This is not the Mazda for me.

  • Most fun to drive! - 2004 Mazda RX-8

This is the most fun car to drive that I have owned. Love to hear the rotary engine...great to the ear...makes you want to drive everywhere and never get out. Super handling and very comfortable. Overall, no car can touch it. 350z is a rough ride and has tire problems, boxster too expensive, s2000 comes close but noisier and no back seat.

I have enjoyed driving the Rx8. My only problem is that the clutch has burned out twice in less than 7,000 miles. My son a teenager drives it mostly. I am trying to decide is the problem the driver or the clutch

This is one of the greatest cars I have ever seen. If I were any of you, I would go out tomorrow and buy this brand new Mazda RX-8. It runs like dream.

  • A True (4dr) Sports Car - 2004 Mazda RX-8

A great car. Wanted a true sports car but needed a back seat occasionally. The RX-8 is like a 4 wheel sportbike. Unbelievably smooth. Handling is unparalleled. My mileage through about 12 tanks hovers between 17.5 and 19 mpg, about what I expected with 60% of my time in city driving and 40% on highways and freeways. There appear to be some 04s with much worse mileage that cant be accounted for by driver behavior. Some drivers have problems with flooding, cold starting. Appears to be a problem with only some cars.
