great value on great car - 2002 Mazda Protege5
By asterix - May 11 - 10:00 amGreat car for zipping around town. Fast enough with the 5-speed. Maybe it cause I had a 88 Volvo brick, but I dont thik this car is underpowered (the Volvo was underpowered...). Fit and finish are very nice for the price. Lot of stuff comes standard. Cant lose w/ 0% financing.

Follow up review - 2002 Mazda Protege5
By mustangleader - May 7 - 6:26 pmAfter another 18,000 miles since last August when I wrote a review. Car is very reliable and keeps on going. If power is your concern, do modifications as I said in my first review. The cost is nominal and cost effective. Never felt the car was underpowered due to its power band at low rmp, but if you modified as I did, youll have performance, comfort, economy of an everyday go-kart car in high gas mkt.

Zoom Zoom...Cheesy but true! - 2002 Mazda Protege5
By EdmundsFan2003 - April 30 - 2:00 amBought the 2003 P5 last month after 6 months of research. Its exactly what this single gal needs! Got rid of a Miata and Saab for my Protege5 (loaded, w/ leather, roof, 6-disc the works) and couldnt be happier with the price, performance, and handling. Highly recommend this versatile, sporty, and (gasp!) economical ride!!

VIVID YELLOW - 2002 Mazda Protege5
By razmonty - March 30 - 10:00 amI own a SAAB 9-3 Turbo if that means anything but I still find myself asking my girlfriend for the PR5s keys all the time to run errands. Interior/exterior design is excellent and in yellow it looks fast and fun; chick-magnet color. The PR5 - in standard form - still lacks the power for the enthusiast; itll still beat a factory Civic dont get me wrong. As a side note: Its a shame people dont see (BUY) the utility and functionality of a 5-door sedan; i.e. Mazda6. Bottom line: 40 more horses would make this car a must-have sportswagon. Mazdaspeed says that their turbo kit is now available; Id wait until the warranty expires first.

Best car ever! - 2002 Mazda Protege5
By slttexas - February 6 - 12:30 pmI bought this car off the showroom floor in 02. In all these years I still get compliments and people are always asking if I just got a new car and what kind it is. It still drives solid and very comfortable. Only routine maint. has ever been required, weve never had any mechanical problems. The controls to everything are conveniant and the car has lots of room. With recent additions to the family I have hsd to purchase a new mini-van, and my husband took over my mazda...I sure do miss it.

A True Gem - 2002 Mazda Protege5
By Tweek - January 30 - 9:10 pmI researched every other car in this class and deliberated for nearly four months before making up my mind and to this day Ive never looked back. Amazing on fuel, fun to drive (Id recommend the stick), shes beautiful to look at both inside and out and with the right aftermarket audio improvements shes a music lovers dream. There is so much I could say about my baby but if you own one you already know... and if you dont, well, I can save you the headaches of looking around. THIS IS THE CAR TO GET!!!... hands down.

Nothing better in its class! - 2002 Mazda Protege5
By js - January 29 - 4:00 pmWe just purchased this vehicle and couldnt be more satisfied. From my first test drive I couldnt believe the incredble way this car drove. It feels solid and inspiring. No cheap plastic pieces used for the interior. And the exterior design very attractive. A total package for less than you might think!

My kingdom for 30 horses - 2002 Mazda Protege5
By Uncle Goo - January 10 - 10:00 amThe Mazda Protege5 is one heck of car. It can carry 4 adults comfortably and haul an amazing amount of cargo. The handling is quite nice and the gas mileage is good for a 2.0L (30 mpg). All in all, this car packs a ton of value into an attractive package. Two quibbles, the roof rack does create a lot of wind noise on the highway and the car could sure use about 25-30 more horsepower and torque. Dont get me wrong, it scoots pretty good as is, but the trouble I could cause with 30 more foot pounds of torque...ahhhhh....
