This Year's Model Updates:

The 2010 Mazdaspeed 3 has been completely redesigned. In addition to gaining the same changes as the regular 2010 Mazda 3, the new Mazdaspeed version benefits from suspension changes that improve its handling abilities over the previous-generation car.

Pros:
  • Strong turbocharged performance, sophisticated ride and handling, upscale interior, hatchback utility, lengthy features list, reasonable price.
Cons:
  • Unavoidable torque steer, no sedan option.

  • It Just Grows on Ya! - 2010 Mazda MazdaSpeed3

I have owned only Taurus SHOs for the past 17 years - all manuals. My last one just turned 190k as I went researching for a honorable replacement. It surely wouldnt be the new SHO as it was released w/o a stick and way too much $$$. As I went to different review and "best of" sites the MS3 was always ending up in the top two spots. Anyway ended up test driving the WRX (not as refined inside + more $) and the GTI (more $ and slower than the MS3). Since I have owned it (the MS3) I have to admit it just gets better every time I drive it - even with that goofy smile in the front. I did have to get used to a turbocharged car as far as shift points and turbo lag but all are quite manageable.

  • Work of art! - 2010 Mazda MazdaSpeed3

I bought my Speed 3 w/ tech package after driving my girlfriends new Mazda 3 S. After driving her car I knew a Mazda would be my next purchase. These cars are amazing! They fly around the corners with ease! I not talking about cornering around a curb at 30 mph, I’m talking sideways at 60-70 mph. These things hold a line so well it’s like you’re on rail! The best thing about going around a corner in my Speed 3 is that it’s absolutely flat while doing it. I’m in love! Power is a huge + this thing is a rocket ship!! Fuel economy is great too. I averaged 28 mpg on my last tank. Only thing I would complain about is there’s a small amount of torque steer, but that adds to the fun. Great job MAZDA!

  • Traded a 2007 for 2010 - 2010 Mazda MazdaSpeed3

Just traded my 2007 Mazdaspeed3 for a new 2010 Speed 3. Only have 100 miles, so more on the handling and performance later. But initial impressions are all positive. Quick comments: 2007-09 versus 2010: Facts: Gone are the HID headlights and LED tail lights. Temp gauge is gone BUT now has a turbo boost gauge. I like that trade, but both would be better. Standard stereo is only a single CD changer not 6-disc Rear cargo liner from 07 fits perfect in the 2010. Winter mats from 07 fit fine in rear and OK in the front. Some gaps in front. 16” winter wheels and tires from my 07 fit on the 2010. Lug pattern, and hub diameter are the same. Still no heated mirrors.

  • Best Value - 2010 Mazda MazdaSpeed3

Traded in a Mazdaspeed MX5. Considered an RX8, but the Speed3 made me smile more. Outstanding all around performance and value. Best performance car I have ever owned. Maybe the best CAR I have ever owned!

  • Must Read for Speed3 Owners! - 2010 Mazda MazdaSpeed3

I noticed a black soot material on my tailpipes (which Ive since learned is normal for turbocharged cars) but I heard that previous models had issues w/turbo smoking (smoke coming from tailpipe at idle/all engine speeds) & I thought this might be the onset. Videos are online if u Google. Mazda allegedly fixed this in 2010 but theres a "mystery" Tech Service Bulletin (TSB)for service depts to switch owners to 5W-40 synthetic vs. std 5W-30 (what the filler cap & manual says). TSB doesnt apply to 2010 models. My dealer couldnt even find the TSB in their system! Question service depts b/c Mazda N. America doesnt endorse synthetic oil or 5W- 40! Could void warranty b/c manual says 5w-30 oil.

  • Great deal for the money! - 2010 Mazda MazdaSpeed3
    By -

Car is great all around. The only thing I would improve on the interior is to add a temp guage (**its a SPORTS CAR!!), the exterior is to get rid of the smiley face. I own one, I tolerate the smiley face, but it doesnt belong on a "SPORTS CAR". I dont understand what Mazda was thinking, I thought the point of business was to satisfy customers and increase sales, a smiley face on their sports car does the opposite. Overall though, the car is still the same as the 1st generation, awesome.

  • Unbeatable Deal on Speed3 Sport - 2010 Mazda MazdaSpeed3

I was looking for an inexpensive, well- built car that would be fun to drive and get reasonable fuel economy and I found it! I have friends w/VW (too many build quality issues), WRX (dealers are too proud & I cant figure out why), & why waste my time on a Civic Si with ~200 horses? This car is a comfortable every day driver. The Dunlops are a little loud on certain road surfaces (rough asphalt) but the car grips the road better than any of the other cars mentioned above. It performs when you want it to and is well behaved during all driving conditions (wet/dry). The turbo has no lag & when youre on the highway & you want to pass, you dont have to downshift...let the turbo work! Paid 22K!

  • I love my speed3 - 2010 Mazda MazdaSpeed3
    By -

I cant say enough good about it. My trade in was a 2005 mazda3s... Which I absolutely loved. 40,000 miles on it at trade and not a single issue other than routine oil changes. Buying the speed3 was an impulse buy while on vacation. I could not pass up the offer. I never knew the performance was anything close to what I had "heard" but wow! Its simply an awesome car with true Mazda soul and zoom zoom on steroids.

  • Practical Performance Bargain - 2010 Mazda MazdaSpeed3
    By -

Nothing from me that contradicts the other positive reviews. Ive driven my car for a few months now, and I have to remind myself of how inexpensive this car is; great handling, powerful engine, comfortable interior with loads of standard features, practical and reliable -- all for ~$23K! When I consider how aggressive the exterior styling is, Im really surprised at how comfortable and civilized the car is. As a middle-aged guy, I tend to feel a bit self- conscious due to the cars styling, but it just drives SO well! Be advised that if you live in an area that gets snow, you should plan on buying a set of snow tires for winter since this car is fitted with summer performance tires.

  • Extreme bang for your buck! - 2010 Mazda MazdaSpeed3
    By -

Ive owned the car for about 3 weeks now and it is an absolute pleasure to drive. I was planning on waiting for the new STi, however Im glad I decided on the MS3 for both practicality and affordability. Plenty fast for a mid-thirty year old, gas mileage is a solid 26 mpg (I do a lot of city driving), and it handles like its on rails through the curves. Motor Trend just did a comparison between the MS3, the wrx, gti and ralliart, and out of all of them, this is the "point and shoot racer" that simply feels much more "dialed in". Believe me, theyre spot on. I simply cant stop grinning.
