This Year's Model Updates:

The completely redesigned 2009 Mazda 6 boasts upsized dimensions and powertrains that put it on par with segment leaders, yet it largely retains its distinctive fun-to-drive character.

Pros:
  • Roomy cabin, big trunk, muscular performance from V6, smooth automatic transmissions, relatively sporty handling.
Cons:
  • Mediocre fuel economy, some cheap interior materials, not as much "zoom-zoom" as enthusiasts might like.

  • Class Leader - 2009 Mazda Mazda6
    By -

I bought a loaded up Mazda6 for my wife to get her hands-free in heavy traffic. What can I say? This is a great looking, nice handling car thats has a decent ride and is relatively quiet. It really is very Lexus-like in many aspects. We drove this after driving comparable Altimas and Accords and this was the winner, hands down. This was the best combination of ride, handling and comfort by a wide margin. All the magazines may be raving about the new Accord, but this is the new class leader in my book.

  • A Great Value Without Compromising! - 2009 Mazda Mazda6

After considering both the six and four cylinder engines, I decided to purchase an i touring (4 cylinder) with the moonroof/Bose package and the convenience package. The car has almost all the features of the grand touring but costs much less, and it is a joy to drive. The 2.5 liter 4cyl is peppy enough for normal city and highway driving yet offers reasonable gas mileage for such a large car. I have no problems merging or passing on the interstate. The interior is phenomenal - very well thought out, comfortable, and beautiful, especially at night. I test-drove most of the competitors, and I found the Mazda to be a far better value (size, comfort, features, etc.) than the competition.

  • Great car - 2009 Mazda Mazda6

Been looking around for midsize sedan either accord or camry for months now. Then we stop by Mazda to try the new Mazda 6. When we test drive the car it was more powerful and fun to drive compared to accord and camry so we buy it immediately. Its really quiet and has tons of upgrades available only on luxury cars.

  • Mazda6 V6 - 2009 Mazda Mazda6

We originally dismissed this car because of its perceived weak gas mileage against its key competitors. We test drove them all and looked for several months at options. However, after test driving a Ford Fusion that had pieces falling off during the test drives, and a Malibu which was just too small with its lack of shoulder and width room....we came back to the Mazda. The V6 engine is fantastic. Smooth as silk. And doesnt have the annoying cylinder shut down like the Accord V6. Build quality is very solid and the ride feels great. Handles better than the Camry. The bonus has been the mileage. Thus far we have been getting 22 combined with at least 75% city driving.

  • Big 3 better watch out. - 2009 Mazda Mazda6

After test driving the "Big 3" sedans (Camry, Accord, Altima), I decided to give the new 6 a try. The redesign has done wonders, both exterior and interior. Quality of the interior is much better than the others, especially in my GT. It has features the others dont was well like LED tails, standard BT and a blind spot monitoring system. The 4 banger suits my needs, but it might be the weak point of the car. I felt the Honda had the best, followed by the Altima, then the Camry. Im only a few hundred miles into the car, but I have ZERO regrets about my decision. Mazda has taken a step forward and should draw a lot of attention w/ this one.

  • Very happy. Exceeding MPG estimates. - 2009 Mazda Mazda6

So glad after 5 months I chose this car. I got the i touring 2.5L auto, with the convenience package. The only thing that made me hesitant was the gas mileage. I am consistently averaging 28 mpg per tank. I dont do any stop and go driving, but not much highway either. I got over 32 mpg on one long trip. Mileage suffers about 10- 15% if you go over 70 mpg. All the other positives the editors discuss hold true. Roomy, comfortable, GREAT handling. Blindspot monitoring option is very helpful. No regrets what so ever. I was looking at the Altima, Altima Hybrid, Camry and Accord and am glad I chose the Mazda6!

  • Finally something besides a Honda - 2009 Mazda Mazda6

We were looking at cars for a while and were considering the Camry, Accord, and Hyundai. We drove the Mazda 6 and were impressed finding it superior in most respects. Later our decision was between the Accord and the Mazda. We liked the style/design, the interior and the way it handled. It was a sporty car with a great look. We really LOVE this car! Thank you Mazda.

  • Great car - 2009 Mazda Mazda6

This is an excellent car to have. Great value for the money, lots of standard equipment, rides and handles great. The car is comfortable to sit in and great on space. This is my second Mazda and I dont regret buying this car, as the last one was a reliable car.

  • Pleasant Surprise - 2009 Mazda Mazda6

This is my first Japanese car. I am pleasantly surprised with the performance of this 4-cyl sedan. The 5-speed tranny is the best designed auto Ive ever owned, getting the most out of the available power. For city or mixed use, get the 4-cyl. Full load or 100% highway, you may want to consider the 6-cyl. I did not drive the 6 speed auto tranny. Excellent design and build quality. Im a small guy and Im still searching around for the seat position that will match the comfort of my old Chrysler 300M, but the support is better in the Mazda. In many circumstances, the Mazda is faster, e.g., starting from red lights.

  • 2009 Mazda 6 i Touring w/Conv pkg - 2009 Mazda Mazda6

I have to say that I have thoroughly enjoyed the 1,200 miles driven on my Mazda 6 since the purchase. I decided to go with the 2.5L instead of the 6 cyl because of the commute that I have and with gas prices on the steady rise the choice was simple. When looking to replace my Mazda 3 (manual), I looked at many different vehicles, but in the end came back to the Mazda 6. The 2.5 has plenty of get-up and go for everyday driving. I also like the new interior n the 09 models. No offense to Toyota, but Mazda takes first in that category. As far as fuel economy, I am averaging 28+ mpg with blended driving of highway and city. Not bad for a car this size. Great Job Mazda
