This Year's Model Updates:

Kia introduces a completely redesigned and much improved Spectra as a midyear 2004 model. However, both the old and new versions are available this year.

Pros:
  • Long range warranty, redesigned version sports a spunky engine, well-finished interior and standard side-curtain airbags.
Cons:
  • Suspension a bit soft, weak performance on outgoing model, ABS optional only on most expensive models.

  • Questionable reliability - 2004 Kia Spectra

I still like this car; however; only after 55,000 miles the alternator failed and at 67,000 the ac compressor had to be rebuilt. The alternator repair was covered by the warranty but the ac I had to pay for it. Recently I replaced the brakes for the first time and the timing belt and engine belts. Tires twice and battery twice as well. Other than that I still like the car but will think twice again of buying another Kia. The 60,000 miles warranty is for a reason.

The new design, 2004.5, looks more impressive and fun than the old model. The long warranty gives piece of mind. However, even though I bought the upgraded model, it still isnt a car I like to get in to every morning. The rebates and low payments were too much to walk away from. But if you can stretch a little more on payments, buy something else.

  • So far,so good - 2004 Kia Spectra

I just bought a new Spectra. First new car I have ever owned (was about time). So far, so good. Gas mileage has been consistently around 30mpg. Shifts very smoothly. I have now put nearly 3000 miles on it. Looks like itll need a set of studded tires for the winter. Enough room for my kids in the back - better than a Rio.

  • Kia vs Honda - 2004 Kia Spectra

Many more features vs the Honda Civic. Im a Honda owner (2003 V6 Accord), but the civics features vs the Spectra came up way short. And the warranty doesnt come close.

I love my spectra. Im 61 and fit in it perfectly. My friends range from 6 to 65 and fit in the back seats perfectly. There is a little dash rattle, but my music is normally high enough to where I dont recognize it. This is one of my first cars and I love it more than all of the others.

  • Lots of kit for less dollars - 2004 Kia Spectra

havent had my Spectra long but Im satisfied with it. The engine provides reasonable power but the automatic transmission could shift smoother. Good cabin materials and nice exterior. Some might have trouble finding a fully loaded model however.

  • My cool kia - 2004 Kia Spectra

I love my kia. A lot of people dont give enough respect to the kias but Ill tell you this much, when the gas prices rose I wasnt bothered by it. The spectra has to be one of the most comfortable sedans ever made.
