Overview & Reviews
The Grand Cherokee is all new for 2005. Among the improvements are new four-wheel-drive systems, an independent front suspension, three excellent engine options and better ergonomics and build quality.
- Strong engine lineup, unmatched off-road ability, balanced handling, long list of advanced safety equipment, solid warranty.
- Hard plastic interior surfaces could use some padding, less cargo capacity than most midsize SUVs.

fun for the money - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By jeepsRfun2drive - April 3 - 11:56 pmthe jeep has had some issues, but overall the fun and satisfaction of driving it has been far beyond my expectations. i bought my 05 5.7L HEMI with 24k, have 49k now, had electrical issues with ac and the knob on the gps fell off, both replaced under warranty. Battery died at 30k. Having electrical issues with lights flashing on and off, havent had dealership look yet, only works in automatic without problems. keychains broke, cupholder in the back broke, passenger side heat vent broke, sunroof doesnt close right unless i push it along, and it still rolls back sometimes when closing, leather on drivers seat ripped. american car, i got what i paid for, gas guzzling power lo quality build

Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By Rocco - March 5 - 2:00 pmThe ride is excellent but the mileage is around 17-18 mpg. Overly wide but length is perfect. Interior room is good but lack of map pockets on my model and the rear cup holders are poorly placed. Tilt wheel feature is poor. Nooks are few and small to place items.

Wish we didnt buy a defective Jeep... - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By John - February 5 - 12:30 pmNo matter the make or model of any car, there will always be cars with many problems and some who never have any! Luck of the draw. Well, we didnt luck out. Weve had nothing but problems. Everything is under warranty, and there was a recall (no big deal), but its already been back to the dealer for the following: replaced the torque converter, roof leaks, fuel sensors died, had to replace entire gas tank, had to replace the starter, shakes at certain speeds, and even stalls out at times. Transmission is HORRIBLE. Seems like a lot of problems to have within the first year. We were excited to buy the Jeep (both of us being previous Jeep owners), and wish we bought one that wasnt defective!

Be Careful - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By Erica - January 16 - 7:16 pmI bought a 2005 Jeep Grand Cher Limited 4WD w/ the Hemi Upgrade in 05 brand new. In 06 I had to have a new transmission, transmission pump and onboard computer installed they told me it was the computer that caused the pump to malfunction which made the transmission go. I was told it would take two months by the dealership to get the part I called Chyrsler and they overnighted the part and lent me a 93 jeep as a loaner with a broken heater in the winter. In July of 08 my transmission went again the manager of the shop told me he didnt know why it happened. In November I didnt pass inspection because I had an electrical short in my ABS which cost $499 not under warranty. Be Careful

Fun and Functional - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By urbanwest - January 6 - 3:53 pmMy Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited with the 330hp hemi engine is an absolute blast. Although its difficult to pass a gas station without stopping to top up. If you can ignore the horrendous gas mileage its great fun to drive. What caught my eye initially was the new aggressive styling. After an inordinate period of time researching and test driving, the Jeep won hands down. The drive is smooth and comfortable and the acceleration is a rush. It offers far more bang for the buck than BMW or Infinity with all the creature comforts and then some. Perfect for us 60+ guys.

Fun to drive; some repair issues - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By Jp - December 7 - 3:10 amFun to own. Off-road capabilities are outstanding. Gas mileage leaves something to be desired, as expected with 5.7L Hemi. Electrical issues with 4WD system have required repeated trips to the shop for repair. Park assist sensor and various other sensors/systems will show need for service but dealership will find nothing upon inspection. A/C will cease to blow cold air but will resume with shutoff/restart of engine. Second row lacks ample legroom for adult passengers. Despite the handful of issues Ive had with this vehicle, I dont regret purchasing it. Its a blast to take offroad and a joy to drive all the way around.

Leaky Jeep - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By BTH - October 15 - 8:46 amThis is my first Jeep. Also looked at VW Toureg V8 and Volvo XC90 V8. Took the cheaper route with the Jeep. Purchased Limited 4x4 with every option except block heater. The first time it rained the drivers floor was soaked with water. Took it back to the dealer. They have been trying to solve the problem ever since. Has now been back to the dealer 3 times with same problem. Next time asking for new Jeep or money back. Great performance and features. Kids love DVD player. I like acceleration and ride.

Used 2005 JGC Owner in GA - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By custombuilt53 - October 13 - 4:26 amI love the feel of this Jeep. I owned a 2002 Laredo I purchased new, and it started with problems and a rougher ride. This 2005 was purchased with 34,000 miles. The ride is very smooth. Hopefully the first owner has already gotten the heavy hitting problems taken care of.

2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By Joanna Hagerty - September 30 - 12:50 amPros: The 05 is quieter and has a smoother ride than the older models. Cons: The gas tank is smaller than the older models, so Im filling up sooner. Plus, this model is bigger and more square; sometimes can difficult to park because of this.
