  • This is it if you have to have an SUV - 2006 Jeep Commander

My wife picked this one out. While I was reluctant at first, I must say it is a whole lot of fun to drive around in. While some say the interior may not be up to the BMW, X30, or Rover quality, you have to remember, *this is a JEEP*. It isnt meant to simply ford the pothole at the golf club. Its made to actually leave the pavement, and shes responded nicely to some rough roads. Storage is great unless you have all three rows of seats up (which we never do, but its good to know theyre there in case of emergencies). The 4WD system is incredible. Ive had 4WDs before, but how easily it handles slippery roads is really amazing.

I could not be more excited about a car! This is more than any soccer mom could want. I love my new Jeep. We have three kids, and we all fit perfectly. The kids love the back seat. We have the Limited with the HEMI and there is a huge difference between that and a regular 4.7L. I loved it from the minute I drove it. Plenty of power for a mom on the go and always in a hurry. The DVD and wireless headphones are great, not to mention the SIRIUS radio ready, and great sound system. The leather is great, the roominess is great, I love the chrome on black. Its one sharp ride.

Nice SUV. Loves to eat gas however, but great highway drive and super in winter or sloppy conditions.

After owning two Grand Cherokees, and a Cherokee Classic in the past, the new 2006 Jeep Commander is by far the most exciting to drive, and to look at. Even with sub par fuel economy, the Commander drives and feels like a dream. I strongly recommend getting the Hemi 5.7L V8, as it actually gets better gas mileage than the 4.7L V8 because of the MDS Engine Technology. Strongly recommended!

This is my first and last Jeep. Lets start with interior there is no cargo room, you cant see anything out of the rear window, when you are at a traffic light you almost have to lay your chin on the dash to see the light, it sounds like the front end is falling out on every bump. Now to the milage WOW I get better mileage in my 1978 big block motorhome pulling a trailer than I do in this jeep just driving around town ! I put a K and N filter in and it didnt help at all. average city is 7-9 hiway is 13-14.5

Wife and I traded in my Rodeo after being run off the road by the Police during a snow storm. Vehicle handled great but the whistling noise cam in about 2mts after purchased. The dealer fixed the problem. 3mts back for the same problem. 3mts later same problem, dealer said it was the windshield wipers being too light, so I changed to duel wipers and it reduced the noise but it is still there. Truck wouldnt start wife took to dealer, said it was the battery while there they found it had a leaking exhaust manifold gasket, dealer wanted $800 to fix. Can be fixed for less and vehicle is in the shop as I type. Vehicle does have elect issues with tire gage. Stitching loose in rear seat.

Had a 97 Pathfinder w/ 197K on it & considered another (but noisy ride) & 4Runner (expensive & tight). Loved the Commander look but was hesitant due to reliability concerns. Too early to know if I made a mistake, but purchased the 100k warranty just in case. I have friends who have Jeeps with 200K. My sisters Honda Odyssey is in the shop all the time. Sometimes you just get a bad one. So far the ride is plush & surprisingly quiet relative to Pathfinder/4Runner. Got $10K off sticker on an 06 model. Worth the money given the 07 is not different. Wife was not a big fan of the boxy look but has definitely grown to appreciate its look and features.

Just purchased this vehicle a week ago. Best car for my money so far. Roomy enough for my family with 2 car seats for the kids.

  • Commander is a Great Jeep - 2006 Jeep Commander

I have had my Commander for a few months now and have put it through rush hour and trips across the mountains in Colorado and i have been pleased and comfortable the whole time. It has enough power to push me up the mountains on onto the freeway. Yes, it does not throw into my seat when I press on the gas, but I did not expect that from a two and a half ton giant. A little squat in my seat makes me happy, nonetheless. The ride is smooth and quiet and things seem put together well. I have been in older Chrysler products and this one is truly a HUGE improvement. Overall, I am happy with my Commander, bring on more snow!

Very poor gas mileage in town, only about 13, freeway about 19. Very comfortable and powerful with V-8. It is too big. We traded in a 03 Cherokee and would much rather have the Cherokee.
